An apple.com/bill charge on your bank or card statement is a charge from Apple for something bought with an Apple Account. Apple says these charges can be for apps, subscriptions, music and movie purchases, or other Apple products and services. If you want to cancel an apple.com/bill charge, the first job is finding out what it was for. This guide covers how to look it up, how to cancel the subscription behind it, and when to ask Apple for a refund.
One thing up front: only Apple’s records can tell you what a specific charge was. The steps below use Apple’s own tools.
What the apple.com/bill charge is
apple.com/bill is the name Apple’s charges carry on bank and card statements. According to Apple’s pages on charges from apple.com/bill and viewing your charges, it can appear for:
- Apps and other content, such as music and movies
- Subscription renewals, for Apple’s own services and for apps you subscribed to through the App Store
- Purchases made by members of your Family Sharing group
Apple also notes that several purchases, including subscriptions, can be grouped into one charge. So the amount on your statement may not match the price of any single item.
How to see what the charge was for
On the web
Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account. Apple says you can search by amount if you know what you paid but not what it was for. Selecting a purchase date shows the full receipt, including tax.
On iPhone or iPad
Open the App Store, tap your profile picture or initials, then tap Apps & Purchase History, then Purchase History. You can search by amount here too. To look further back, tap Last 90 Days and pick a different range. Apple’s purchase history page also covers Mac and Windows.
If you still cannot find it
- Check your other Apple Accounts. Purchases belong to the account that made them. Search your email for “receipt from Apple” and note which account the receipt names.
- Check family purchases. If you are the Family Sharing organizer and purchase sharing is on, Apple says you can pick a family member from the Apple Account menu to see what they bought.
- Be careful with emails. Apple warns that emails about purchases may not actually come from Apple. Check your purchase history yourself instead of following links in an email.
- Still nothing? Apple’s pages point you to Apple Support, and if you still do not recognize the charge on your statement, to your bank or card issuer.
How to cancel the subscription behind it
If the charge was a subscription renewal, Apple says cancelling the subscription stops future charges. It does not reverse the charge you already paid.
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions and choose the one to cancel. Without an Apple device, sign in at account.apple.com. If there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message, Apple says the subscription is already cancelled. Our App Store cancellation guide covers every device and what to do when a subscription is missing from the list. If a family member’s Apple Account is on the receipt, only that person can cancel it.
For a free trial you do not want to keep, Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before it ends. See our guide to cancelling a free trial for more on timing.
Apple charges and Apple Pay subscriptions are different
People searching “cancel Apple payment” or “cancel Apple Pay subscription” are often looking at one of two different things:
- Billed by Apple (apple.com/bill): cancel in your Apple Account subscriptions, as above.
- Paid with Apple Pay to another company: that company runs the subscription and you cancel with them. Apple Wallet can list these under Preauthorized Payments, with a link to manage them with the merchant. Apple says revoking the authorization in Wallet does not cancel the subscription and charges may still occur.
For other recurring charges, see how to stop automatic payments.
When to ask for a refund
Cancelling stops the next charge. Getting money back for a charge already taken is a separate request. Apple’s route is Report a Problem: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose to request a refund, pick a reason, select the item and submit. Apple says to expect an update within about 24 to 48 hours.
A few points from Apple’s refund page are worth knowing before you ask:
- Sign in with the Apple Account that made the purchase.
- A pending charge cannot be refunded until you receive a receipt.
- A Family Sharing organizer can request refunds for family members’ purchases charged to the organizer’s payment method.
- Apple says some purchases might be eligible, so a refund is not guaranteed.
Our App Store refund guide walks through the request and what happens after you submit it.
Keep the next renewal from surprising you
An apple.com/bill charge is easiest to deal with before it happens. Keeping your own list of subscriptions and renewal dates means a renewal never arrives unannounced. Subex helps with that on Android: add a subscription by hand, set a reminder 1 or 3 days before it renews, and open its cancel guide when you decide. Subex does not read statements, connect to your Apple Account or identify charges, and the iPhone app is not available yet. Get Subex for Android, or start by finding all your subscriptions.
FAQ
Why do I have an apple.com/bill charge I don’t recognize?
Common explanations from Apple’s pages: a subscription renewed, a family member made a purchase, several purchases were grouped into one charge, or the purchase was made on a different Apple Account. Check your purchase history at reportaproblem.apple.com, then contact Apple Support or your bank if you still cannot match it.
How do I cancel an apple.com/bill charge?
Cancel the subscription behind it in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions, or at account.apple.com, so it does not renew. Getting the money back for the charge you already paid is a separate refund request at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Why is the apple.com/bill amount different from the price I expected?
Apple may group several purchases, including subscriptions, into one charge, and the receipt includes tax. Open the receipt at reportaproblem.apple.com to see every item it covers.
Can I get a refund for an apple.com/bill charge?
You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple reviews each request, says to expect an update in about 24 to 48 hours, and does not guarantee a refund.
Can Subex tell me what an apple.com/bill charge is?
No. Subex does not connect to your bank or Apple Account and does not identify charges. Only Apple’s purchase history can tell you what a charge was for.
