Before you start.
- Check whether you are on the monthly or the annual plan. Both cancel the same way, but the money at stake is different: an annual fee refunded in full is worth far more than a month, and the same benefits-used rule governs both.
- Decide before you cancel whether you intend to use Prime again this period. Amazon states that the full refund applies only if you and your account did not make eligible purchases or take advantage of Prime benefits since the latest Prime membership charge, so placing one Prime order first can cost you the refund.
- If you signed up, or converted from a free trial, within the last three business days, Amazon's terms give a separate and more generous rule: a full refund of the membership fee, less the value of any Prime benefits used during those three business days.
- Check who charged you. Amazon states that if you signed up for Prime through Google Play on Android, you cancel through Google's subscription services, and if your Prime membership is associated with another company's service you contact that company.
- List your other Amazon subscriptions before you start. Prime Video channels such as Paramount+, Kindle Unlimited, Audible and Amazon Music Unlimited are separate subscriptions, and Amazon states that subscriptions on Prime Video continue once your Prime membership ends.

Cancel on the Amazon website
This is the route Amazon documents, and it is where the membership lives. Amazon bills Prime itself rather than through an app store, so this page is what stops the charge.
- Go to amazon.com/primecentral and sign in with the account that holds the membership.
- Open the option to end the membership and follow the prompts.
- Work through the screens Amazon shows before the final step: it offers alternatives rather than cancelling on the first click.
- Continue until Amazon confirms the membership will end, and note the date it gives you.
- Check the confirmation email, and check Prime Central again afterwards to confirm the membership shows as ending rather than renewing.
Amazon's help page describes the flow as visiting Cancel Your Prime Membership and following the prompts. If you stop partway through, the membership stays active.
Cancel an Amazon Prime free trial
A Prime free trial is a membership like any other, so it ends in the same place. Amazon's terms state that trial members may at any time, through Your Account, choose not to continue to paid membership at the end of the trial period.
- Go to amazon.com/primecentral and sign in with the account that started the trial.
- Open the option to end the membership and follow the prompts until Amazon confirms it will not continue to a paid membership.
- Note the date the trial ends and check the confirmation email.
- If the trial has already converted to paid, cancel straight away: Amazon's terms state that cancelling within three business days of converting from a free trial refunds the full fee, less the value of Prime benefits used in those three business days.
A trial started through Google Play on Android is cancelled in Google Play, like any Prime membership bought there.
Cancel other Amazon subscriptions
Prime is one subscription among several on an Amazon account. Amazon states you can check and manage your Amazon subscriptions, including Prime and Prime Video, from Your Memberships and Subscriptions, which lists your active, cancelled and expired subscriptions with renewal dates and prices.
- Go to Your Memberships and Subscriptions on amazon.com.
- Locate the subscription you want to cancel, such as a Prime Video channel, Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Music Unlimited.
- Select Manage Subscription.
- Select Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.
- For select digital subscriptions and free trials, Amazon states you can instead use the Auto-Renew option to stop the recurring charge before the renewal date.
Cancelling Prime does not cancel these. Amazon states that subscriptions on Prime Video, like Paramount+, continue once your Prime membership ends.
Cancel Prime for Young Adults or a student membership
Amazon documents a separate sequence for the Prime for Young Adults plan, the one formerly known as Prime Student.
- Go to Prime Central.
- Select End Membership.
- Select End My Benefits.
- Select End Membership again to confirm.
Amazon states that if you reinstate afterwards you are no longer eligible for the Prime for Young Adults trial, and would be offered a monthly or annual paid plan instead.
Cancel Prime billed by Google Play or another company
Amazon does not control a membership a third party sells and bills. Its help page is explicit that these are cancelled with the other company.
- Find the receipt and see who took the payment.
- If you signed up through Google Play on Android, cancel it in your Google Play subscriptions rather than on Amazon.
- If the membership came with another company's service, contact that company to cancel it.
- Amazon's terms add that a third-party signup may mean contacting the third party for any refund, under its policies rather than Amazon's.
An ordinary Prime membership bought from Amazon never appears in an Apple or Google subscription list, so do not look for it there.
Cancel through Amazon customer service
Amazon's help page lists a support path for members who need more help than the self-service page gives.
- Go to the Amazon Customer Service homepage.
- Select Something else under "Can't find what you're looking for?".
- Select "I need help with something else" and ask for the Prime membership to be cancelled.
- Ask for written confirmation of the cancellation date and whether a refund was issued.
What happens next?
- Amazon states that paid members who have not used their benefits are eligible for a full refund of the current membership period, processed in three to five business days. Members who have used a benefit since the last charge keep the membership to the end of the paid period instead.
- Prime benefits are easy to use without noticing: free delivery on an order, Prime Video, Amazon Music, Prime-exclusive deal prices and Prime Reading all count as using the membership.
- Amazon states that subscriptions on Prime Video, such as Paramount+, continue once your Prime membership ends. Those are separate charges you cancel in Your Memberships and Subscriptions.
- Amazon's terms state that Prime benefits may not be transferred or assigned, so a household member sharing your benefits loses them when the membership ends rather than inheriting it.
- Cancelling Prime does not close your Amazon account. Orders, addresses and payment methods stay exactly as they were, and you can still shop without the membership.

Prime is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions
For almost everyone that is expected rather than a problem. Amazon bills Prime itself, so it does not appear in your iPhone subscription list. Cancel at amazon.com/primecentral instead. The one exception Amazon names is a signup made through Google Play on Android, which is cancelled in Google's subscription services.
I cancelled and got no refund for the rest of the year
Check whether anything on the account used a benefit after the last charge. Amazon refunds the full fee only if you and your account did not make eligible purchases or take advantage of Prime benefits since that charge. A single Prime delivery, a film streamed on Prime Video or a Prime-only price used by anyone on the account is enough, including a household member. That is a policy outcome, not a failed cancellation.
I cancelled Prime but Amazon still charges me for something
Look at what the charge is for. Amazon states that subscriptions on Prime Video, such as Paramount+, continue after the Prime membership ends, and Kindle Unlimited, Audible and Amazon Music Unlimited are separate subscriptions too. Open Your Memberships and Subscriptions, find the one still renewing, select Manage Subscription and then Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.
I still have Prime benefits after cancelling
If you were not refunded, the membership runs to the end of the period you paid for and the benefits go with it. Check the end date Amazon gave you at cancellation. The risk here is the reverse of the usual one: using a benefit during that remaining period is what removes the refund, so if you are hoping for money back, stop using Prime.
The free trial charged me before I cancelled
A trial converts automatically on its end date. Amazon's terms give a narrow remedy: cancel within three business days of converting from a free trial to a paid membership and Amazon refunds the full fee, though it may charge you or withhold the value of benefits used during those three business days. Past that, the ordinary benefits-used rule applies.
