On the web, sign in to ChatGPT, select your profile icon, then Settings, then Billing, and under Cancel plan select Cancel. If you subscribed inside the iOS app, Apple bills you: cancel in Settings, your name, Subscriptions, ChatGPT, Cancel Subscription. OpenAI advises cancelling at least 24 hours before your next billing date, and says uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.

Cancel ChatGPT Plus, step by step.

Use this route if you subscribed in a browser, which is how most Plus subscriptions are bought.
- Log in to ChatGPT and select your profile icon, then Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, select Cancel and confirm.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the next period.
Cancelling stops future renewals. OpenAI states it does not automatically refund previous charges.
Subscribed in the ChatGPT iOS app
A subscription bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is billed by Apple, and only Apple can stop it.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and select your name.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Select ChatGPT.
- Select Cancel Subscription and keep Apple’s confirmation.
Subscribed in the ChatGPT Android app
An Android in-app purchase is billed by Google Play.
- Open Subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that paid.
- Select the ChatGPT subscription.
- Cancel it and complete Google’s prompts.
- Keep the Google Play confirmation — removing the app does not cancel the subscription.
Before you cancel.
- Work out what your charge actually is. ChatGPT Plus, a ChatGPT Team or Business workspace seat, and pay-as-you-go OpenAI API usage are separate products with separate billing — cancelling one does not stop another.
- If you are on a Team or Business workspace, the workspace owner or admin controls seats and billing, not individual members.
- Check whether the charge came from OpenAI, Apple or Google — the receipt tells you which of the routes below applies.
What happens next?
- Plus features normally remain available for the rest of the period you have already paid for, and are not renewed afterwards.
- Your account and chat history are not deleted by cancelling; the account reverts to the free tier. Deleting the account is a separate action.
- OpenAI says cancelling stops future renewals and does not automatically refund previous charges.

Does cancelling ChatGPT Plus delete my chats?
No. Cancelling ends the paid plan and the account continues on the free tier with your conversation history intact. Deleting your OpenAI account is a separate action with different consequences.
I cancelled but I am still being charged for OpenAI.
Check whether the remaining charge is API usage rather than ChatGPT Plus. Pay-as-you-go API billing is a separate account and is not stopped by cancelling a Plus subscription. A Team or Business workspace seat is also billed separately.
Why can I not cancel ChatGPT in the app settings?
Because the store that sold you the subscription bills it. If you subscribed in the iOS app, cancel in Apple Subscriptions; if in the Android app, cancel in Google Play. The ChatGPT web billing page only manages subscriptions OpenAI bills directly.
Will I get a refund for the rest of the month?
OpenAI says cancelling stops future renewals and does not automatically refund previous charges. A refund request is separate, and for an Apple- or Google-billed subscription it goes to that store, not to OpenAI.
When should I cancel to avoid the next charge?
OpenAI advises cancelling at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Uninstalling the app is not a cancellation.
