How to cancel ChatGPT Plus subscription.

This is the route for a subscription bought on chatgpt.com. OpenAI's help centre currently documents two paths to the same control, because the billing interface is mid-change.

1. Log in to ChatGPT at chatgpt.com.
2. Click your profile icon and select Settings.
3. Look for Billing. On some accounts the control sits under the Account tab instead, behind a Manage dropdown.
4. Select Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts to the confirmation.
5. Check the billing pane afterwards for the end date, and keep any confirmation email.

OpenAI documents both Settings, then Billing, and Settings, then Account, then Manage, then Cancel Subscription. If one is missing on your account, the other is the one your interface uses.

Apple bills an App Store purchase. OpenAI states that for subscriptions made through Apple, cancellations and refunds must be requested directly from Apple.

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name (your Apple Account) at the top of the screen.
3. Tap Subscriptions.
4. Select ChatGPT from the list of active subscriptions.
5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

This is the one channel OpenAI puts entirely out of its own hands: it states that cancellations and refunds for Apple subscriptions must be requested directly from Apple.

Google Play bills a Play purchase, and OpenAI states you cancel via Android accordingly. Refunds are different here, because OpenAI handles those itself.

1. Open the Google Play Store app.
2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
4. Select ChatGPT.
5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.

For a Play refund, OpenAI states you log in to ChatGPT with the account concerned, open its Help Center and use the chat widget at the bottom right, and that an eligible refund is processed within 10 business days.

This is the charge that survives a Plus cancellation. The API platform is a separate billing system with its own organisation, and it keeps running until you stop it there.

1. Make sure you have permission to manage billing for the API organisation you want to cancel.
2. Go to that organisation's Billing overview on the API platform.
3. Select Cancel plan, or Cancel billing plan, whichever appears.
4. Review the cancellation details, then select Cancel plan to confirm.
5. Stop sending API requests, and revoke the keys still in use, including admin keys and any keys in other organisations.

OpenAI states that cancelling does not automatically refund charges already accrued that month, does not clear unpaid usage charges, and does not cut off access: API access continues until the end of the current calendar month for accounts billed after usage, so it tells you to stop sending requests if you do not want more charges. On prepaid billing it states cancelling turns off automatic reloading and that purchased prepaid credits are non-refundable.

A workspace is billed per seat to the workspace rather than to you personally, so the controls live in workspace settings and not in your own account settings.

1. Log in to ChatGPT with an account that administers the workspace.
2. Click your profile icon and select Workspace settings.
3. Navigate to the Billing tab.
4. Select the Manage plan dropdown.
5. Select Cancel subscription and confirm.

OpenAI's self-service cancellation article states that it does not cover Enterprise or Edu plans, which are contract-based and handled through your OpenAI account team. It also states that workspace credits are not refundable except where required by law or in cases of confirmed account compromise.
