STREAMINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel fuboTV (Fubo) subscription.

Fubo (formerly fuboTV) cancels where you signed up. If you signed up on the Fubo website: sign in at fubo.tv, pick a profile, click the settings icon, select My Account, then Subscription, click your plan to expand it, scroll to the bottom and select Cancel, then click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION past the discount offer. If Roku bills you, Fubo cannot cancel it and you turn off auto-renew in your Roku account instead. Not sure which? Fubo states that fubo.tv/subscription shows Roku Subscription for a Roku-billed plan. Before you cancel a free trial, know the trap: Fubo states that a trial started on its website expires immediately when you cancel it, while a paid subscription runs to the end of the billing period.

Before you start.

  • Find out who bills you before you start. Fubo states you can check by logging in at fubo.tv/subscription: a subscription created through Fubo shows your subscription details and next billing date, and one created through Roku says Roku Subscription.
  • If you are on a free trial, decide whether you want the remaining days. Fubo states that cancelling during a trial you started on its website results in an immediate expiration of the trial, that the remaining trial days are not accessible, and that another free trial period will not be given. A trial started through Roku works differently: Fubo states it terminates at the end of the free trial.
  • Check when your trial converts. Fubo states that trial lengths vary, that checkout shows a notice reading "You will not be charged until your free trial ends on (date) at (time)", and that the remaining days appear in the My Account section of fubo.tv.
  • Check whether you took a promotional offer with a commitment. Fubo states that most plans do not include cancellation fees, but that an early cancellation fee may apply if you signed up for a promotional offer with a commitment period and cancel before it ends.
  • If what you actually pay for is Hulu + Live TV, this is the wrong account. Fubo states that if you sign up for Hulu + Live TV through the Fubo website, all account changes, including cancellation, are managed through the Hulu website directly.
  • Do not expect a pause or a partial refund. Fubo states that it does not offer the ability to pause or suspend subscriptions, and that it does not provide refunds for prepaid or partial months of service.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Fubo, step by step.

Cancel on the Fubo website

Use this when you signed up at fubo.tv. Fubo notes that you must complete all the steps before the subscription is cancelled, and a retention offer sits in the middle of them.

  1. Sign in at fubo.tv with your Fubo email and password.
  2. Select a profile from the Who's Watching? screen. You can select any available profile to continue.
  3. Click the settings icon, then select My Account from the drop-down menu.
  4. From the My Account screen, select Subscription.
  5. Click on your plan to expand it and see more details.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Cancel.
  7. You may be offered the option to keep your subscription and receive a discount. Fubo states that if you see this screen, your subscription is not cancelled yet: click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION rather than REDEEM OFFER.
  8. A confirmation page appears indicating you have successfully cancelled. Click OK to dismiss it.

Fubo states that if you cancel a paid subscription you keep service until the end of the current billing period, and that if you cancel a free trial it expires immediately and another free trial period will not be given.

Cancel a Fubo subscription Roku bills

Fubo states that a subscription taken through Roku renews each month and is managed through your Roku subscription, so the Fubo account page will not stop it.

  1. Go to my.roku.com/subscriptions and sign in with the Roku account that pays for Fubo.
  2. Under Active subscriptions, select the Fubo subscription.
  3. Select Manage subscription, then select Turn off auto-renew to cancel.
  4. On a Roku device instead: press Home, highlight the Fubo app, press the Star button on the remote, select Manage subscription, then select Turn off auto-renew.
  5. Check the date shown for the end of your access. Roku states you keep access until the current billing cycle ends.

Fubo's own help article names these buttons Unsubscribe and Yes, Unsubscribe, while Roku's current help names them Manage subscription and Turn off auto-renew. Use whichever your screen shows: both end the Roku-billed plan.

Cancel Hulu + Live TV you signed up for on fubo.tv

The Fubo homepage now offers Hulu + Live TV beside Fubo's own plans, but Fubo states the two remain separate services. Signing up for Hulu + Live TV from fubo.tv sends you to the Hulu website, and Hulu holds that subscription.

  1. Check which service your statement names. A Hulu + Live TV signup started on fubo.tv is billed and managed by Hulu, not Fubo.
  2. Do not look for it in your Fubo account. Fubo states that all account changes, including cancellation, are managed through the Hulu website directly.
  3. Sign in to your Hulu account and cancel there, following the Hulu route that matches who bills you.
  4. Keep Hulu's confirmation, since Fubo will have no record of the subscription.

Cancel Fubo billed by another company

Fubo's help names Roku as the example of a third-party provider. Its general rule is that a subscription taken through a third-party provider has to be cancelled with that provider.

  1. Check the merchant name on your card or bank statement to see who charges you.
  2. If it is neither Fubo nor Roku, sign in to that company's account and cancel the Fubo subscription there.
  3. Review that company's cancellation confirmation to verify the Fubo subscription is closed, which is the check Fubo itself recommends.
  4. If the merchant is Fubo but you cannot see the subscription, check whether you have a second Fubo account under a different email address.

Fubo states that if you subscribed through a third-party provider, the cancellation process needs to be completed directly with that provider.

What happens next?

  • A paid subscription runs to the end of the current billing period. Fubo states that if your subscription is set to cancel, the subscription information page shows the date and time it will terminate.
  • A free trial cancelled on the Fubo website ends immediately, and Fubo states the remaining trial days are not accessible.
  • Fubo states it does not provide refunds for prepaid or partial months of service.
  • You may still see some channels afterwards. Fubo states that once a subscription has expired you may still have access to Fubo Free, a limited ad-supported plan, which is not a sign that the cancellation failed.
  • Fubo states that a free trial is only available to new customers, so restarting later means being charged for service at the time of reactivation.
  • Logging in to check the status does not reactivate anything. Fubo states this explicitly, and asks you to sign out without making changes once you have confirmed.

Cancelling a Fubo free trial.

How do I cancel a fuboTV free trial?

The same way as a paid plan, through whoever bills you. A trial started on fubo.tv cancels under My Account, Subscription, Cancel, and Fubo states it then expires immediately, the remaining trial days are lost and another free trial will not be given. A trial started through Roku cancels in your Roku account, and Fubo states it then terminates at the end of the free trial. Fubo states you can cancel before the trial period ends to avoid being charged.

Can you cancel fuboTV after the free trial?

Yes. Fubo states its subscriptions renew each month until you cancel and that you may cancel at any time. Once the trial has converted to a paid plan, cancelling stops the next renewal and the paid subscription continues through the end of the current billing cycle. Fubo states it does not refund prepaid or partial months, so the first paid month is not returned.

Pausing or freezing Fubo.

Can I pause Fubo for the off-season?

No. Fubo states that it does not offer the ability to pause or suspend subscriptions, and suggests cancelling, keeping access until the end of the paid period, and reactivating when you want to come back.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled but Fubo charged me again

Fubo lists four causes. The cancellation may not have completed, so check the subscription status in your account settings. The charge may predate the cancellation, since a completed cancellation applies to the end of the current billing period. You may have a second Fubo account under a different email address. Or a third-party provider such as Roku bills you, in which case Fubo states the cancellation has to be completed directly with that provider and their confirmation is what proves it.

I cancelled but I can still watch channels

Usually expected. Fubo states that when you cancel a paid subscription you keep access to all programming until the current billing period ends. After that you may still see Fubo Free, a limited ad-supported plan. Fubo's own test: log in at fubo.tv, and if you see a welcome back message inviting you to restart your subscription, the paid subscription has expired and what you are watching is the free plan.

The cancel button just showed me a discount and nothing happened

That screen sits between the cancel button and the confirmation, and Fubo states outright that if you see it your subscription is not cancelled yet. Clicking REDEEM OFFER keeps the subscription. You have to click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION, reach the confirmation page and click OK. Closing the tab at the offer leaves the plan running.

I cancelled my free trial and lost access straight away

That is the documented behaviour for a website sign-up. Fubo states that cancelling during a free trial you started on Fubo's website terminates the subscription immediately and you lose access, and the remaining trial days are not accessible. A trial started through Roku works the other way: Fubo states it terminates at the end of the free trial. If you want the remaining days of a website trial, cancel close to the end date shown in My Account rather than on day one.

I see a $1 charge from Fubo after starting a free trial

Fubo states that, depending on your card provider, you may see a temporary $1.00 authorization charge, processed to validate the account and automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days. It is a card check, not the first bill, which arrives when the trial converts to a paid plan.

My Roku screen does not match the steps Fubo gives

Fubo's article describes Unsubscribe and Yes, Unsubscribe buttons at my.roku.com, while Roku's own help now describes selecting the subscription under Active subscriptions, then Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew. Both are the same action. What matters is that Roku afterwards shows the date your access ends rather than a renewal date.

I signed up for Hulu + Live TV on fubo.tv and my Fubo account shows nothing

That is expected. Fubo states that Fubo and Hulu + Live TV remain separate services, that a Hulu + Live TV signup from the Fubo website is completed on the Hulu website, and that all account changes, including cancellation, are managed through Hulu directly. Cancel it in your Hulu account.

I was charged an early cancellation fee

That points to a promotional offer with a commitment period. Fubo states that most plans do not include cancellation fees, but that an early cancellation fee may apply if you signed up for a promotional offer with a commitment period and cancel before it ends. The terms of that offer, not the standard cancellation policy, govern the charge.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel fuboTV?

fuboTV is now called Fubo. Sign in at fubo.tv, choose a profile, click the settings icon, select My Account, select Subscription, click your plan to expand it, scroll down and select Cancel, then click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION past the discount offer and OK on the confirmation. If Roku bills you, turn off auto-renew in your Roku account instead.

Can I cancel Fubo at any time?

Yes. Fubo's cancellation policy opens with "With Fubo, you can cancel at any time." The exception to watch is a promotional offer with a commitment period, where Fubo states an early cancellation fee may apply if you cancel before that period ends.

Does deleting my Fubo account cancel the subscription?

Do not use deletion as a way to cancel. Fubo states that deleting your data is permanent, that you immediately lose access to your account, and that to avoid losing any remaining subscription you should cancel your subscription first and wait for it to end before requesting deletion. A Roku-billed plan is managed through Roku either way.

Did the Hulu + Live TV deal change my Fubo subscription?

Fubo states no: both services are still separate, no action is required, and no changes have been made to current plans or pricing for either service. Cancelling Fubo does not touch a Hulu + Live TV subscription, and the reverse is also true.

Will I get a refund for the rest of the month?

No. Fubo states it does not provide refunds for prepaid or partial months of service, and that a paid subscription continues to the end of the current billing cycle.

How do I know whether Fubo or Roku bills me?

Fubo states you can check by logging in at fubo.tv/subscription. A subscription created through Fubo shows your details and next billing date. A subscription created through Roku says Roku Subscription in the details.
