Do you qualify?
- The request must be made within 5 days of the initial purchase, or within 5 days of any annual automatic renewal date.
- It must go through the account management tools in the Audio/Video Subscriptions section of your MLB.com account, or by email to customerservice@mlb.com.
- MLB states it will not grant more than one refund during any given Major League Baseball season.
- MLB states that in no event will it provide partial or pro-rated refunds, so a part-used season is not refundable by the month.
- A charge made by a store or a partner rather than by MLB is outside this policy entirely.
ASK WHOEVER TOOK THE MONEY
How to request a MLB.TV refund.
Ask MLB inside the 5 day window
MLB bills subscriptions bought on MLB.com, so MLB decides these refunds. Both routes below are the ones MLB's own terms name.
- Check the charge date first and count the days. The window is 5 days from the initial purchase, or 5 days from the annual automatic renewal date.
- Log in to your MLB.com account and open the Audio/Video Subscriptions section, then use the account management tools there to make the refund request.
- If the tools do not offer it, email customerservice@mlb.com from the account address within the same 5 days.
- State the charge date and that you are requesting a refund under the 5 day policy.
- Cancel the subscription separately if you do not want it to continue, because a refund request is not a cancellation.
MLB states it will not grant more than one refund during any given Major League Baseball season, so a refund used earlier in the year closes this route for the rest of it.
Ask the store that charged you
If Apple, Google, Roku or Amazon billed the subscription, MLB's refund policy does not govern the charge and MLB cannot return it.
- Confirm the merchant name on your statement.
- Request the refund through that store's own refund process.
- Note that each store sets its own window and its own rules, which are not MLB's 5 days.
What happens next?
- A refund and a cancellation are separate requests. Cancel as well if you do not want the subscription to continue or to renew next March.
- MLB's terms state that a cancellation request made after the fifth day takes effect at the start of the following subscription service year for a yearly plan, so access continues rather than the money coming back.
- Keep the written response. A refusal that cites the 5 day rule is the document to take to your bank if you dispute the charge.
WHEN THE ANSWER IS NO
If you are refused.
The renewal was more than 5 days ago
MLB's published policy does not provide for it. The window runs 5 days from the annual automatic renewal date, and MLB states it will not give partial or pro-rated refunds outside it. What remains is cancelling so the subscription does not renew again, which MLB's terms confirm takes effect at the start of the following subscription year.
I already had a refund this season
Then this route is closed until next season. MLB states it will not grant more than one refund during any given Major League Baseball season, regardless of the reason for the second request.
I want a partial refund for the months left
MLB's terms rule this out twice over, in both the billing section and the refund section: in no event will MLB provide partial or pro-rated refunds. The subscription runs to the end of the term you paid for instead.
Apple or Google charged me, not MLB
Then MLB has no charge to refund. Take it to the store that billed you and use its own refund process, which has its own deadline. MLB's 5 day rule applies only to purchases MLB made on MLB.com.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
Can I get my MLB.TV money back?
Only within 5 days of the initial purchase or of an annual automatic renewal, requested through the Audio/Video Subscriptions tools in your MLB.com account or by email to customerservice@mlb.com.
Does MLB refund the unused part of a season?
No. MLB's terms state that in no event will it provide partial or pro-rated refunds.
How many refunds can I get?
MLB states it will not grant more than one refund during any given Major League Baseball season.
Does a refund also cancel the subscription?
Treat them as separate. Make the cancellation as well, through the Audio/Video Subscriptions section or by email, so the subscription does not renew on or about March 1.
