Do you qualify?
- Sony's checklist has two conditions and both must hold: the request is made within 14 days of signing up, and it is for your first payment rather than a recurring fee.
- Free trial days count inside the 14 days. Sony's own example: a 7 day trial leaves 7 days after the payment, not a fresh 14.
- Use reduces the refund. Sony names playing online, downloading the monthly games and using cloud storage as the kind of use it will take into account.
- A renewal is not covered. If a yearly plan renewed and you want that year back, Sony's published rule does not provide for it.
ASK WHOEVER TOOK THE MONEY
How to request a PlayStation Plus refund.
Ask Sony through PlayStation Support
PlayStation Plus bought on a console or on the web is billed by Sony, so Sony decides. This is its own refund route.
- Check the purchase date first: the window is 14 days from signing up, and a free trial is counted inside it. Sony's example is that a 7 day trial leaves only 7 days after the charge.
- Confirm the charge is your first payment for the subscription rather than a renewal. Sony's checklist excludes recurring fees.
- Open PlayStation Support's refund request page and sign in with the account that was charged.
- Request the refund for the PlayStation Plus purchase and submit it.
- Cancel the subscription separately if you do not want it to continue, since a refund request is not a cancellation.
Sony states that if you have started using the subscription, including playing online, downloading the monthly games or using cloud storage, it may reduce the refund based on that use.
What happens next?
- Cancelling and refunding are separate. Sony states the subscription continues until the next payment is due and then ends, so stopping future payments does not return the current one.
- Monthly games stop working when the subscription lapses, whether it ends by cancellation or by refund.
- Keep the written answer. A refusal that cites the 14 day rule is the document you would need to take the charge to your bank.
WHEN THE ANSWER IS NO
If you are refused.
The charge was a renewal, not my first payment
Then Sony's published refund route does not cover it: the checklist is explicit that the request must be for a first payment and not a recurring fee. What is left is contacting PlayStation Support to ask, and turning off the renewal so it does not happen again.
I had a free trial and thought the clock restarted
It does not. Sony counts the trial inside the 14 days, and gives the example of a 7 day trial leaving only 7 further days after the charge. People miss the window this way more than any other.
I was offered less than I paid
That is the documented behaviour rather than a mistake. Sony states it may reduce a refund based on your use of the subscription, and names playing online, downloading the monthly games and using cloud storage as examples.
I bought PlayStation Plus from a retailer or a card
A prepaid code redeemed into the wallet is not a PlayStation Store subscription payment, so this route does not apply to it. Take it up with the retailer that sold the code.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
Can I get a refund on PlayStation Plus?
Only within 14 days of signing up, and only for the first payment. Sony's checklist requires both, and it excludes recurring fees.
Does a free trial extend the refund window?
No, it eats into it. Sony counts trial days inside the 14 days, so a 7 day trial leaves about 7 days after the charge.
Will I get the full amount back?
Not necessarily. Sony states it may reduce the refund based on use, including online play, downloading the monthly games and cloud storage.
Does a refund cancel the subscription?
Treat them as separate requests. Cancelling stops the next payment and leaves the current period running to its end, which is not the same as getting this charge back.
