SECURITY & PRIVACYSubscription refund guide

How to get a AVG AntiVirus refund.

AVG states that for a qualifying purchase made directly from it or through Google Play, following its cancellation and refund policy within 30 days of the date of purchase gets your subscription terminated and 100% of the price for the current term refunded. The window runs from the purchase, including an auto-renewal charge, so an old renewal you only noticed on a statement is usually outside it. Purchases from a reseller, including a physical store or the Apple App Store, are excluded and have to go back to whoever sold them.

Do you qualify?

  • AVG states the window is 30 days from the date of purchase, and that a qualifying refund returns 100% of the price paid for the then current subscription term.
  • AVG names the qualifying channels as its own online retail stores and Google Play.
  • AVG states you cannot get a refund if you request it more than 30 days after purchase, if you already received a refund for the same product within the previous 6 months, if you breached its acceptable use policy or licence agreement, or if you purchased from a reseller such as a physical store or the Apple App Store.
  • An auto-renewal charge has its own purchase date. AVG states it may email a notice when the term extends, including how to request a refund within 30 days of the start of the extended subscription term.
  • The window runs from the charge, not from when you noticed it. A renewal found months later on a statement is outside the guarantee.

ASK WHOEVER TOOK THE MONEY

How to request a AVG AntiVirus refund.

Ask AVG, for a purchase made on its site

This is the main route and the only one AVG's own 30-day guarantee covers directly.

  1. Find the confirmation email or invoice for the charge: AVG's refund process asks you to identify the order.
  2. Check the charge date against the 30 days.
  3. Open AVG's refund request page and follow the product-specific route it gives you.
  4. Cancel the subscription renewal in your AVG Account as a separate step, so it does not renew again.
  5. Keep the confirmation of both the cancellation and the refund request.

Cancelling and refunding are two requests at AVG. Doing one does not do the other.

Ask Google, for a Play Store purchase

AVG's policy names Google Play as a channel its guarantee can cover, but the money sits with Google, and Google has its own faster clock.

  1. Open Google Play's refund request page signed in with the account that paid.
  2. Select the AVG order and follow the request flow.
  3. Google decides directly only within 48 hours of the charge; after that it passes the decision to the developer.
  4. Cancel the subscription in Google Play separately so it does not renew.

A reseller purchase

AVG excludes reseller purchases from its own refund policy, which makes this the route most likely to be refused if taken to AVG.

  1. Identify who actually sold it: a retailer, a physical store, a bundled deal or the Apple App Store.
  2. Take the refund request to that seller under their returns policy.
  3. Contact AVG Sales Support separately if you need the subscription itself turned off in your AVG Account.

What happens next?

  • AVG states that card and PayPal refunds can take up to 7 business days to process, and other payment methods up to 14 business days.
  • A refund terminates the subscription rather than leaving it running to the end of the term, so the protection stops.
  • Check the AVG Account afterwards: the subscription should no longer show as renewing. A refund on one product does not stop a second AVG subscription on the same account.
  • Keep the refund confirmation in case the renewal recurs from a stored payment method.

WHEN THE ANSWER IS NO

If you are refused.

AVG refused because I bought from a reseller

That matches its published policy, which excludes purchases made through a reseller including a physical store and the Apple App Store. The seller holds the money and their returns policy is the one that applies. AVG can still turn off the renewal in your account even when it will not refund.

The renewal charge was months ago

The 30 days run from the date of that charge, so the guarantee has closed. Cancelling now stops the next one. If you never received the renewal notice AVG says it may send, it is worth putting that to support, but the published window is what it enforces.

I was refunded once before for the same product

AVG states it will not refund where you have already received a refund for the same product within the previous 6 months. That exclusion is about the product rather than the individual order, so a second purchase inside that period is not covered.

I cannot find the order to reference in the request

Search your mail for AVG order confirmations and invoices, including the address you no longer use, since the AVG Account is created from the purchase address. Failing that, the descriptor on your bank statement plus the date and amount is what support works from.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How long is AVG's money-back guarantee?

AVG states 30 days from the date of purchase, refunding 100% of the price paid for the current subscription term, for qualifying purchases made directly from AVG or through Google Play.

Can I get a refund on an AVG auto-renewal?

The same 30 days apply, counted from the renewal charge. AVG states it may email a notice when a term extends that explains how to cancel and how to request a refund within 30 days of the start of the extended term.

How long does an AVG refund take?

AVG states credit or debit card and PayPal refunds can take up to 7 business days to process, and other payment methods up to 14 business days.

Does a refund also cancel my AVG subscription?

A granted refund terminates the subscription term it covers. It is still worth checking your AVG Account, because a separate AVG product on the same account keeps renewing on its own schedule.
