Before you start.
- Find the next billing date first. AVG shows a Next charge date in your account under My subscriptions, and it also emails renewal reminders from notification@emails.avg.com or no.reply@avg.com. Cancelling after that date does not undo the charge.
- Check the 30-day refund window against the charge date. AVG states that a qualifying purchase refunded within 30 days of the date of purchase is refunded in full, so a renewal you spot quickly is worth acting on straight away.
- Work out who took the money before you go hunting for a cancel button. AVG states that a subscription bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store cannot be cancelled in your AVG Account and has to be managed in that store, and that a reseller purchase needs AVG Sales Support.
- Your AVG Account login is the email address you gave when you bought. If you cannot find the subscription, AVG states you may need to activate the account first, or contact support so they can manually link the subscription to it.
- Uninstalling AVG from your computer does not cancel anything. The subscription is a billing arrangement held in your AVG account, and removing the software leaves it renewing.
- AVG sells several products under one account, including AntiVirus, VPN, TuneUp and Driver Updater. Cancelling one does not cancel the others, so check for more than one active line before you stop.

Cancel renewal in your AVG Account
This is the route for a subscription bought from AVG directly. It stops the renewal and leaves the current term running.
- Sign in at id.avg.com.
- Click Manage subscriptions on the My subscriptions tile.
- Select Manage subscription under the subscription you want to cancel.
- Click Unsubscribe or Cancel renewal.
- Give cancellation feedback if you want to, then click Continue.
- Review the details and click Confirm & Finish.
AVG states you receive an email confirmation once this completes, and that the subscription status changes to Expiring. Expiring is the correct end state: it means the renewal is off and the term runs to its expiry date.
Cancel a Google Play subscription
AVG AntiVirus is sold on Google Play. AVG states that a subscription bought there is managed in Google Play rather than in your AVG Account.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select AVG AntiVirus.
- Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.
Google states it cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf. If the plan is missing from the list, you are signed in with a different Google account than the one that paid.
Cancel through AVG support
For a reseller purchase, a subscription missing from your account, or an account you cannot get into. AVG states support can manually link a subscription to your account.
- Open AVG's support site and start a support request or chat.
- Give the order number or the invoice from your confirmation email, plus the charge date and amount from your statement.
- Ask explicitly for automatic renewal to be turned off, and for a refund as a separate request if you are inside the 30 days.
- Ask for written confirmation, and check your AVG Account afterwards to see the status change to Expiring.
What happens next?
- AVG states the subscription status changes to Expiring and you can keep using it until the expiration date, then you lose access or move to the free version.
- Cancelling the renewal is not the same as a refund. AVG treats them as separate requests, so if you want the last charge back you have to ask for it inside the 30-day window.
- The protection keeps running until expiry. If you want it gone sooner, uninstall the software, but do that in addition to cancelling rather than instead of it.
- AVG states that card and PayPal refunds can take up to 7 business days to process, and other payment methods up to 14 business days.
- Keep the confirmation email. It is the evidence that the renewal was stopped if a charge arrives anyway.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

The subscription is not listed in my AVG Account
AVG states that if a subscription does not appear you should contact support so they can manually link it to your AVG Account. Before that, check you are signed in with the email address used at purchase, since the account is created from that address. A Google Play or reseller purchase also will not appear, because AVG is not the one billing you.
I uninstalled AVG but was charged anyway
Removing the software does not touch the billing. The subscription lives in your AVG account, or in Google Play if you bought it there, and keeps renewing until it is cancelled in that place. Cancel it properly, then ask about a refund if the charge is inside the 30 days.
The renewal cost far more than I paid the first year
The introductory price applies to the first term, and the renewal is at the standard rate, which is a common cause of an unexpected charge. AVG states it may send an email notice before the term extends, with instructions for cancelling and for requesting a refund within 30 days of the start of the extended term. Check that mailbox, including spam, for the reminder.
I cannot sign in to id.avg.com at all
The account exists under the address on the purchase confirmation, which may not be the address you use day to day. Search your mail for AVG order confirmations to find it. If the account was never activated, AVG states you may need to activate it first, and support can link the subscription if you can evidence the purchase.
I was refused a refund
AVG publishes specific exclusions: a request made more than 30 days after purchase, a refund already given for the same product within the previous 6 months, a breach of its acceptable use policy or licence agreement, and purchases made through a reseller such as a physical store or the Apple App Store. If the exclusion is the reseller one, the refund request belongs with whoever sold it.

How do I stop AVG from automatically renewing?
