Do you qualify?
- Anthropic states that except as expressly provided in its Consumer Terms of Service or where required by law, all payments are non-refundable. Its refund request flow checks eligibility before anything is promised.
- In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Anthropic states you may receive a refund within 14 days of purchase, and that these refunds are prorated according to your use.
- An App Store charge is outside Anthropic's reach entirely. It states that Apple processed the payment, that only Apple can review and issue the refund, and that its own support team cannot access those charges.
- Anthropic states that support cannot process a refund while a bank dispute is pending, because the disputed funds are pulled back immediately. You either wait for the bank to resolve it or withdraw the dispute.
- Prepaid Console API credits are a different matter: Anthropic states that all credit purchases are non-refundable and that credits expire one year from the purchase date.
ASK WHOEVER TOOK THE MONEY
How to request a Claude Pro refund.
Ask Anthropic for a web purchase
This is the documented route for a plan bought at claude.ai. It runs through the support messenger rather than a form on the billing page.
- Log in to your account and click your initials or name in the lower left corner.
- Select "Get help" from the menu to open the messenger on the right side of the window.
- Click the "Send us a message" button.
- Click "Accept", then "Claude Refund Request" from the available options.
- Select your refund reason, then follow the prompts to check your refund eligibility.
- If eligible, continue in the support messenger to cancel and refund your plan.
Anthropic states that in the EEA and the UK this option may also be available directly in your Settings, and that those refunds are prorated according to your use.
Charged through Claude for iOS
Anthropic states that an iOS purchase was processed by Apple, so Apple alone reviews and issues the refund.
- Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you used to buy the subscription.
- Tap or click "I'd like to", then choose "Request a refund".
- Choose the reason for your refund request, then click Next.
- Select your Claude subscription, then click Submit.
- Check the status any time by returning to reportaproblem.apple.com.
Anthropic states that refunds for App Store purchases are granted at Apple's discretion, and that requesting one does not cancel the subscription: cancel it separately to avoid future charges.
Charged through Claude for Android
Anthropic handles this one itself rather than sending you to Google, but it checks eligibility first and asks for specific details.
- Contact Anthropic support and say the subscription was bought on Claude for Android.
- For an active subscription, provide the relevant details upfront so the team can check eligibility.
- For an inactive subscription, contact support with the email address on your Google Play account, or the GPA order number from your Play receipt, formatted GPA.xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx.
- Cancel the subscription separately if it is still running, since a refund request does not stop the renewal.
What happens next?
- A refund is not a cancellation. Anthropic states this for Apple purchases specifically, and it holds generally: cancel the plan as well or the next charge still arrives.
- Upgrading from Pro or Max to Team is the one case that refunds itself. Anthropic states that the individual subscription is cancelled automatically, a prorated refund is issued for the unused portion, and any prepaid usage credits on the individual account are refunded. It states that refunds usually appear immediately but can take a few days after the Team payment clears.
- If you signed up for Pro or Max through the App Store, Anthropic states you cannot upgrade to Team in place: cancel the iOS subscription through your Apple ID settings first, and request any App Store refund from Apple.
- If you cannot sign in to the account being charged, Anthropic's documented route is to contact support from another email and copy in the address tied to that account, then ask in writing to cancel and refund.
WHEN THE ANSWER IS NO
If you are refused.
The refund request flow says I am not eligible
That is the expected outcome for most purchases outside the EEA and the UK, because Anthropic states payments are non-refundable except as its terms provide or the law requires. The cancellation is still worth completing: it stops the next charge even when the last one stands.
Anthropic support says it cannot refund my charge
Check the receipt. If Apple billed you, that answer is Anthropic's documented position rather than a brush-off: it states that only Apple can review and issue an App Store refund. Take the request to reportaproblem.apple.com instead.
I already raised a chargeback with my bank
Anthropic states that its support team cannot process refunds during a pending dispute, because the funds are pulled back immediately. You choose between waiting for the bank or withdrawing the dispute so a refund can be processed.
I want the unused API credits back
Anthropic states that all credit purchases are non-refundable and that credits expire one year from the purchase date, with no extension. The practical step is to stop auto-reload in the Console under Settings, then Billing, so no further credits are bought.
