Before you start.
- BritBox states you must cancel at least 24 hours before your next renewal or payment date to avoid being charged for the next billing cycle. Find your renewal date in your BritBox account before you start.
- Use a computer or a browser on your phone or tablet. BritBox states that if your mobile device redirects you to the BritBox app, use a laptop or desktop computer instead.
- Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. BritBox states you will continue to be charged unless you cancel first.
- If BritBox tells you to go to the platform where you subscribed, that is not an error. BritBox states it means you are on a different platform from the one you signed up on.
- Annual subscribers in Denmark and Finland should check the renewal rules: BritBox states that annual subscriptions taken direct with BritBox in those countries do not automatically renew each year.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel BritBox, step by step.
Cancel a BritBox subscription billed by BritBox
This is the route BritBox documents for its direct subscribers, and it is web only.
- Sign in to your account at BritBox.com using a computer, or a web browser on your phone or tablet.
- Click on your name in the top right corner.
- Click on My Account.
- Under Plan & Billing, click on Cancel subscription.
- The next screen asks Are you sure? Click I still want to cancel and follow the prompts.
- Wait for the confirmation email. BritBox states it tells you the last day you will have access.
BritBox shows a retention offer in this flow. Its help centre has a separate article about redeeming an offer made after you clicked cancel, so leaving at that screen can leave the subscription running.
Cancel a BritBox subscription billed by a partner
BritBox states flatly that if you subscribed and pay through one of its partner services, it is unable to cancel your subscription for you. This is the most common reason a BritBox cancellation fails, because the BritBox account page will not show a plan it does not bill.
- Identify the partner. BritBox names Amazon Prime Video Channels, Apple iTunes, Apple TV Channels, Android and Google Play, and The Roku Channel for the United States and Canada.
- Amazon Prime Video Channels: cancel the BritBox channel from Manage Your Prime Video Channels in your Amazon account.
- Apple: cancel from your Apple subscriptions, whether the plan came through Apple iTunes or as an Apple TV Channel.
- Google Play: cancel from your Google Play subscriptions.
- The Roku Channel: cancel from your Roku account subscriptions.
BritBox also lists Ruutu+, Telenor, Telia, TV2 and TV4 as partners in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It states that annual subscriptions through Google Play or Apple TV Channels can be cancelled at any time and may be refunded according to that platform's policies.
Ask BritBox customer care
Worth using when a direct subscription will not cancel, or when a charge has landed after a cancellation. It is not a route for partner subscriptions, which BritBox states it cannot touch.
- Confirm first that the subscription is billed by BritBox rather than a partner, because BritBox cannot cancel a partner subscription however you ask.
- Contact the BritBox Customer Care team through the help centre.
- If you are asking about a charge, have the charge date and time from your bank or card statement ready. BritBox asks for these.
- Ask for written confirmation of the cancellation and the last day of access.
BritBox states that a direct subscriber who no longer plans to use the service and wants a refund should contact Customer Care as soon as possible. It does not promise one.
What happens next?
- BritBox states you keep access until the end of your current billing cycle, regardless of when you cancel. Its own example: a monthly plan renewing on the 15th and cancelled on the 7th stays watchable until the 15th.
- The confirmation email names the last day of access. BritBox says it sends one after a cancellation, so treat a missing email as a cancellation that did not finish.
- Cancelling does not stop the newsletters. BritBox has a separate article about email newsletters arriving after a cancellation, because unsubscribing from marketing is a different action.
- BritBox states that re-subscribing later does not come with another free trial.

Will I get another free trial if I resubscribe?
No. BritBox states that re-subscribing does not come with another free trial.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
BritBox tells me to go to the platform where I subscribed
BritBox states this message means you are trying to manage the subscription somewhere other than where you bought it. If you subscribed through Roku, you cancel in your Roku account; if you subscribed in the Apple TV app, you cancel in your Apple account settings. BritBox states it cannot cancel a partner subscription on your behalf under any circumstances.
The BritBox site keeps sending me into the app and I cannot cancel
BritBox addresses this directly: if your mobile device redirects you to the BritBox app, use a laptop or desktop computer instead. The cancellation flow is a web page, and the app has no equivalent.
I was charged after I cancelled
BritBox points to the timing. Renewal payments process automatically on the renewal date, so a cancellation made on that same day can land after the charge has already gone through. It advises cancelling a few days in advance, and states that if the charge came from a partner platform such as Apple, Amazon or Roku, you have to take it up with them rather than with BritBox.
I clicked cancel and BritBox offered me a deal instead
The cancel flow shows a retention offer before the confirmation, and BritBox publishes a separate article about redeeming one. If you did not want the offer, keep going until the Are you sure? screen and click I still want to cancel, then confirm the cancellation email arrived. Stopping at the offer leaves the subscription active.
I keep getting BritBox emails after cancelling
BritBox treats marketing email as separate from the subscription and has its own help article on it. Cancelling a subscription stops the billing, not the mailing list. Unsubscribe from the newsletter itself, which is a different setting.
