Before you start.

  • Check your statement first. Roku-billed charges appear as Roku, Roku for followed by a company name, or The Roku Channel. A charge showing only the service's own name means you subscribed with that service directly, so cancel with it rather than with Roku.
  • Some charges carry a parent company's name. Roku's examples: Roku for CBS Interactive is Paramount+, Roku for Warner Media Global Digital Services LLC is HBO Max, and Roku for AMC Networks is Shudder.
  • If you set a Roku PIN for purchases, have it ready. The device asks for it before it turns off auto-renew.
  • Cancel a free trial before it ends. Roku states that trials convert to paid, recurring subscriptions.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Roku, step by step.

Cancel in your account on the web

The web account lists every subscription Roku bills you for, whichever device you signed up on, and it works from a phone or computer browser.

  1. Go to my.roku.com and sign in with the account linked to your streaming device.
  2. Select Manage your subscriptions.
  3. Under Active subscriptions, select the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Select Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew.
  5. Note the date your access ends and keep any confirmation.

If the subscription is not listed, Roku is not billing it, or it sits on another Roku account. On the device, Settings, System, About shows which email the device is linked to.

Cancel with your TV remote

The same option is on the device, reached from the app's tile rather than from inside the app.

  1. Press Home on the remote.
  2. Highlight the app you subscribe to in your Apps section and press the Star button.
  3. Select Manage subscription to see the renewal date and options.
  4. Select Turn off auto-renew.
  5. Enter your PIN if prompted to confirm.

Manage subscription is not available from Quick Access. Highlight the app in the Apps section instead.

Disney+, Hulu and Sling TV: cancel with the provider

For these three, the platform processes the charge but the service manages the subscription, so the steps above do not cancel them.

  1. Contact Disney+, Hulu or Sling TV through its own help center and ask to cancel.
  2. Have your invoice ready: Disney+ and Hulu may ask for the CIB (Customer Identifier for Billing) printed on it.
  3. On a bank statement, these charges can appear as ROKU FOR DISNEY ELECTRO followed by numbers.
  4. Keep the provider's cancellation confirmation.

Cancel a Smart Home camera plan

Camera and doorbell plans are cancelled from the same web account, with one extra step.

  1. Sign in at my.roku.com and select Manage your subscriptions.
  2. Select the Smart Home subscription, then Manage subscription.
  3. Uncheck all cameras and doorbells.
  4. Select Cancel subscription.

What happens next?

  • The subscription stays active until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for.
  • Roku states that purchases billed through it are prepaid, final and non-refundable, and that no refunds are given for partial-term cancellations.
  • You can turn auto-renew back on from the same Manage subscription screen. If you set a PIN, it is needed for that too.
  • A subscription bought directly from a streaming service follows that service's own cancellation and refund rules.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

The subscription is not in my Roku list

Open Purchase history & invoices at my.roku.com. Subscriptions bought directly through other streaming services do not appear in Roku's purchase history, so a charge that is on your statement but not there was most likely sold by the service itself. If it should be a Roku charge, check whether another Roku account or email was used: Settings, System, About on the device shows the linked email.

I see a charge from The Roku Channel

The Roku Channel itself is free. A charge from it means a subscription was bought through it, such as AMC+. Cancel it under Manage your subscriptions at my.roku.com like any other Roku-billed subscription.

I cancelled but I am still being charged

Access and billing run to the end of the current cycle, so check the charge date first. If charges continue after the billing cycle has ended, review the charge with Roku's unrecognized charges guidance, then contact Roku support, or the provider for a subscription it manages.

There is a $1.00 charge I do not recognize

Roku explains that a $1.00 charge is a temporary hold to verify a payment method. It is an anti-fraud check rather than a purchase, and it is refunded.

Someone else in the house subscribed

Roku notes that a family member or roommate may have made the purchase. Cancel it under Manage your subscriptions, then set up a Roku PIN to stop future purchases without it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel a subscription on Roku?

Sign in at my.roku.com, select Manage your subscriptions, choose the subscription under Active subscriptions, select Manage subscription and then Turn off auto-renew. On the TV, highlight the app, press the Star button and choose the same options.

How do I find my Roku subscriptions?

Every subscription Roku bills you for is listed at my.roku.com under Manage your subscriptions. For past charges, Purchase history & invoices on the same site shows invoices under Content or Products.

Can I cancel a Roku subscription from my phone?

Yes, through a browser. Open my.roku.com on your phone, sign in and follow the same steps: Manage your subscriptions, the subscription, Manage subscription, Turn off auto-renew.

Will I get a refund if I cancel partway through a month?

Roku states that no refunds are given for partial-term cancellations. You keep access until the end of the billing period instead.

Why can't I cancel Disney+, Hulu or Sling TV through Roku?

Roku processes the charge for these three, but the services manage the subscription. Contact the provider directly, and keep your invoice to hand in case Disney+ or Hulu asks for the CIB on it.

Does Roku charge for an account or for support?

No. Roku states that it never charges for Roku accounts or customer support services, so a request to pay for either did not come from Roku.
