STREAMINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel MUBI subscription.

Sign in at mubi.com/account in a web browser and use the cancellation option in your subscription settings. That route only works if MUBI bills you. Apple and Google both sell MUBI subscriptions in-app, and a subscription bought that way lives in the store's list rather than in your MUBI account. The detail that catches people is the tier: MUBI GO, which adds a weekly cinema ticket, is a separate and more expensive subscription at $19.99 a month against $14.99 for MUBI Monthly, and MUBI Yearly at $119.99 is paid a year up front.

Before you start.

  • Check who bills you. If your statement shows Apple or Google rather than MUBI, the plan sits in that store's subscription list and mubi.com cannot end it.
  • Work out which tier you are on. The MUBI App Store listing shows MUBI Monthly at $14.99, MUBI Yearly at $119.99 and MUBI GO Monthly at $19.99, alongside several lower-priced entries that correspond to student and promotional rates.
  • MUBI GO includes a cinema ticket as well as streaming, so cancelling it gives up more than the streaming library. Downgrading to standard MUBI is a plan change rather than a cancellation.
  • MUBI Yearly is paid up front for a year. Cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused months, so the timing matters far more than on a monthly plan.
  • Note the renewal date before you cancel. A cancellation made on the renewal date can land after the payment has processed.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel MUBI, step by step.

Cancel a MUBI subscription billed by MUBI

This is the route for anyone who subscribed on mubi.com. Use a web browser rather than the app, because the mobile apps send you to whichever store sold the plan.

  1. Sign in at mubi.com/account in a web browser.
  2. Open the subscription or billing section of your account settings.
  3. Check which company is named as the biller before looking for a cancel option.
  4. If MUBI bills you, use the cancellation option shown there and work through every confirmation screen.
  5. Keep the confirmation and the end date it gives you.

If the account page offers no cancellation control, a store holds the plan. That is the expected behaviour rather than a fault.

Cancel a MUBI subscription billed by Apple

MUBI sells subscriptions inside its iOS app, which its App Store listing confirms, so a signup made on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV belongs to Apple.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select the MUBI subscription. The name shown tells you the tier, such as MUBI Monthly, MUBI Yearly or MUBI GO Monthly.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
  5. On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, then open Subscriptions from your account settings.

If MUBI is not in the list, check every Apple ID in the household. A subscription is only visible on the Apple ID that paid for it.

Cancel a MUBI subscription billed by Google Play

MUBI's Google Play listing confirms in-app purchases, so an Android signup bills through Google.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com on a computer.
  2. Open Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Select the MUBI subscription.
  4. Select Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Uninstalling the app never cancels a Google Play subscription. If MUBI is missing from the list, the Google account signed in is not the one paying.

Cancel MUBI bought as an Amazon Prime Video Channel

MUBI is available as an add-on channel inside Prime Video, and that subscription belongs to Amazon rather than to MUBI.

  1. Go to Manage Your Prime Video Channels in your Amazon account.
  2. Find MUBI under Prime Video Channels or Your Channels.
  3. Select the cancel option for that channel and confirm.

A MUBI channel bought through Prime Video plays inside Prime Video. If MUBI has never worked in the MUBI app itself, this is the subscription you hold.

Move off MUBI GO instead of cancelling

Worth considering if the cinema ticket is what you are paying for and no longer using. MUBI GO is a separate, more expensive tier rather than an add-on to a standard subscription.

  1. Check which tier your charge matches. The App Store listing prices MUBI GO Monthly at $19.99 against MUBI Monthly at $14.99.
  2. Sign in to your MUBI account and open the subscription section.
  3. Switch to the standard MUBI plan rather than cancelling, which keeps your watchlist and ratings.
  4. Check the date the new price takes effect, since a downgrade normally starts at the next renewal.

What happens next?

  • Access normally runs to the end of the term you have already paid for, which on MUBI Yearly can be many months away.
  • MUBI Yearly is paid a year up front, so cancelling stops the next renewal rather than returning the unused portion.
  • Cancelling does not delete your MUBI account, your watchlist or your ratings. They stay with the account if you come back.
  • Cancelling MUBI GO ends the cinema ticket as well as the streaming, and the ticket entitlement does not carry over.
  • Downloads in the MUBI app stop playing when the subscription ends, even though the files stay on the device.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option in my MUBI account

That means MUBI is not the biller. MUBI sells subscriptions through Apple and Google in-app, and as a channel inside Prime Video, and mubi.com can only cancel plans MUBI collects the money for. Read the merchant name on your statement and go to that store.

I am paying more than MUBI's advertised price

Check which tier you are on. The MUBI App Store listing prices MUBI GO Monthly at $19.99 against MUBI Monthly at $14.99, so a GO subscription costs more because it includes a weekly cinema ticket. If you are not using the ticket, switching to standard MUBI is a plan change rather than a cancellation.

I cancelled a yearly plan and did not get the unused months back

MUBI Yearly is priced at $119.99 and paid a year up front. Cancelling an annual plan stops it renewing rather than refunding what remains, so the access continues to the end of the year you bought and no money comes back. Cancelling near the renewal date is the way to avoid paying for a year you will not use.

MUBI is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions list

Either you are signed in with a different Apple ID or Google account than the one that paid, which is the usual cause, or the subscription is a direct MUBI one and belongs on mubi.com instead. Check every account in the household before concluding it has vanished.

I cancelled MUBI but the charge keeps coming

Compare the merchant name on the surviving charge against what you cancelled. A direct MUBI subscription, an Apple one, a Google one and a Prime Video channel can all exist at the same time under the same name, and cancelling one does nothing to the others.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel MUBI?

Sign in at mubi.com/account in a browser and use the cancellation option in your subscription settings, if MUBI bills you. If Apple, Google or Amazon bills you, cancel it in that store's subscription list instead.

What does MUBI cost?

Its App Store listing shows MUBI Monthly at $14.99, MUBI Yearly at $119.99 and MUBI GO Monthly at $19.99, with lower-priced entries corresponding to student and promotional rates. Its Google Play listing shows in-app purchases from $10.99 to $167.88 per item.

What is the difference between MUBI and MUBI GO?

MUBI GO is a more expensive tier that adds a cinema ticket to the streaming subscription, priced at $19.99 a month against $14.99 for MUBI Monthly. Moving between them is a plan change rather than a cancellation.

Do I get a refund if I cancel MUBI Yearly early?

Cancelling an annual plan normally stops the renewal rather than refunding the remainder, and access continues to the end of the year already paid for. Treat a refund as a request MUBI can decline rather than an entitlement.
