MUSIC & AUDIOSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel SoundCloud subscription.

To cancel a SoundCloud subscription such as Go or Go+, use a browser: SoundCloud states that subscription cancellations cannot be completed on the SoundCloud app. Sign in and go to your Subscriptions page, click Edit next to your current subscription, select Opt-out of your current plan at the bottom of the page, then Confirm and Cancel your Plan. SoundCloud gives you a way to check it worked: refresh the page, and if it shows EXPIRES next to your billing date, the cancellation succeeded. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, SoundCloud states you must cancel directly with that store and that it cannot help with cancellations or refunds for subscriptions purchased on iOS devices.

Before you start.

  • Open a browser rather than the app. SoundCloud states plainly that subscription cancellations cannot be completed on the SoundCloud app, which is why people hunt for an option that is not there.
  • Check which subscription you actually hold. SoundCloud sells a listener subscription, Go and Go+, and a separate creator subscription for artists. They behave completely differently when cancelled, and cancelling the wrong one can take your music off other platforms.
  • Check who bills you. SoundCloud states that a subscription purchased through the Apple App Store must be cancelled directly with Apple, and one purchased through Google Play directly with Google Play.
  • Do not expect money back. SoundCloud states it does not offer refunds for delivered subscriptions, and that what you can do is opt out of further payments during the current billing cycle.
  • If you are an artist with distributed or monetized music, read the timing before cancelling. SoundCloud states that content distributed or monetized through SoundCloud for Artists is removed from third-party platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music and de-monetized 30 days after your subscription ends.
  • Know the reversal window on that. SoundCloud states you have 30 days to renew to keep content distributed and monetized, and that content already taken down should be reinstated within 7 days of a successful renewal.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel SoundCloud, step by step.

Cancel SoundCloud in a browser

This is the only route SoundCloud offers for a subscription it bills directly, and it explicitly does not exist in the app.

  1. Sign in to your account on a desktop or mobile browser.
  2. Go to your Subscriptions page.
  3. Click Edit next to your current subscription.
  4. Select Opt-out of your current plan at the bottom of the page.
  5. Select Confirm and Cancel your Plan.
  6. Refresh the page: SoundCloud states that if the subscription page shows EXPIRES next to your billing date, you have successfully cancelled.

SoundCloud states that after cancelling a Go subscription you keep premium features, including ad-free listening and offline downloads, until the current billing cycle ends, and that the account then reverts to the free, ad-supported experience.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad

SoundCloud cannot touch an App Store subscription, and says so in unusually direct terms.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the SoundCloud entry.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

SoundCloud states it cannot help with cancellations or refunds for subscriptions purchased on iOS devices. Contacting SoundCloud support about an Apple charge will not move it.

Cancel on Android

The same division applies on Android: SoundCloud states a Google Play purchase must be cancelled directly with Google Play.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select SoundCloud.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.

What happens next?

  • SoundCloud states you keep premium features, including ad-free listening and offline downloads, until the current billing cycle ends, and that you can check the exact expires date on your Subscriptions page.
  • After that the account automatically reverts to the free, ad-supported experience rather than closing.
  • SoundCloud states you will not be charged again provided you cancelled before your next scheduled billing date.
  • For an artist subscription the consequences are larger: SoundCloud states that downgrading to a Basic plan hides your oldest uploads over the free limit from listeners, that nothing is deleted, and that hidden tracks, stats and comments are saved and fully restored if you upgrade to Pro again.
  • SoundCloud states it does not offer refunds for delivered subscriptions, so the cancellation stops future payments rather than recovering past ones.

Cancelling a SoundCloud free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option in the SoundCloud app

There is not meant to be. SoundCloud states that subscription cancellations cannot be completed on the SoundCloud app. Sign in on a desktop or mobile browser instead and use the Subscriptions page: Edit, then Opt-out of your current plan, then Confirm and Cancel your Plan.

I am not sure the cancellation worked

SoundCloud publishes a specific check for this. Refresh the Subscriptions page: if it shows EXPIRES next to your billing date, the cancellation succeeded. If it still shows a renewal instead, the opt-out did not complete and the steps need repeating.

My music was removed from Spotify and Apple Music after I cancelled

That is the artist subscription rather than the listening one, and it is documented. SoundCloud states that content distributed or monetized through SoundCloud for Artists is removed from third-party platforms and de-monetized 30 days after the subscription ends. It is recoverable: SoundCloud states you have 30 days to renew to keep content distributed, and that content already taken down should be reinstated within 7 days of a successful renewal.

SoundCloud will not refund my subscription

That matches its stated policy: SoundCloud does not offer refunds for delivered subscriptions, and what it offers instead is opting out of further payments during the current billing cycle. If Apple or Google billed you, SoundCloud is not the right place to ask either way, and it states it cannot help with refunds for subscriptions purchased on iOS devices.

My uploads disappeared after I downgraded

They are hidden rather than gone. SoundCloud states that on a downgrade to Basic your oldest uploads over the free limit are hidden from listeners, nothing is deleted, and you can still view the hidden tracks on your Tracks page. It also states hidden tracks, stats and comments are saved and fully restored if you upgrade again.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel SoundCloud Go+?

In a browser, not the app. Go to your Subscriptions page, click Edit next to your subscription, select Opt-out of your current plan, then Confirm and Cancel your Plan. Refresh and look for EXPIRES next to your billing date to confirm it worked.

Can I cancel SoundCloud in the app?

No. SoundCloud states that subscription cancellations cannot be completed on the SoundCloud app. The exception is a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play, which is cancelled in that store rather than through SoundCloud at all.

Does SoundCloud refund a cancelled subscription?

SoundCloud states it does not offer refunds for delivered subscriptions. You can opt out of further payments during the current billing cycle, and you keep access until that period ends.

What happens to my account after cancelling SoundCloud Go?

SoundCloud states you keep premium features including ad-free listening and offline downloads until the current billing cycle ends, then the account automatically reverts to the free, ad-supported experience.
