NEWS & READINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Bloomberg subscription.

Sign in to your Bloomberg account, go to the Subscription tab at the top of the page and click Cancel your subscription. Bloomberg's terms of service describe the same step as Contact Support to Cancel, so expect either wording. It states all cancellations are confirmed the same business day and become effective at the end of your current billing period. There is no money back on digital: Bloomberg states you will not receive a refund on a monthly subscription, and no refund prorated or otherwise for the remainder of an annual term. Businessweek print is a different system entirely, handled through a separate subscription services site, and it does refund copies that have not been mailed.

Before you start.

  • Expect one of two labels for the same step. Bloomberg's help page says to click Cancel your subscription in the Subscription tab, while its terms of service say to select Contact Support to Cancel. Either can appear, so a different label does not mean the flow is broken.
  • Do not use a private browsing window if you may need the chat. Bloomberg states you cannot access its Messaging Assistant in a private browser, which is the fallback when the button does not work.
  • On an annual plan, understand there is nothing to recover. Bloomberg states you will not receive a refund, prorated or otherwise, for the remainder of the annual term, and that access continues for the rest of that period.
  • The same applies monthly. Bloomberg states that on a monthly subscription you will not receive a refund and that access continues for the remainder of the current monthly billing period.
  • Know that renewal is automatic and charged ahead. Bloomberg states your subscription will be renewed automatically and that you will be charged in advance of each billing cycle unless you cancel.
  • If you took an introductory offer, the deadline is the end of that period. Bloomberg states in capitals that if you do not want the charge, you must cancel your subscription before the end of the introductory period by contacting customer support. It also states introductory offers can only be redeemed by first time subscribers.
  • Check who bills you. Bloomberg sells digital subscriptions as in-app purchases through the App Store, and publishes separate help articles for subscriptions started through Apple and through Google.
  • Do not confuse the products. A Bloomberg.com digital subscription, a Bloomberg Businessweek print subscription and the Bloomberg Terminal are three different things. The Terminal is a separate professional product on its own contract and none of this applies to it.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Bloomberg, step by step.

Cancel through your Bloomberg account

This is the route Bloomberg's terms document for a subscription it bills directly, and it deliberately routes through support.

  1. Sign in to your Bloomberg account and make sure you are not in a private browsing window, because Bloomberg states you cannot access its Messaging Assistant in a private browser.
  2. Navigate to the Subscription tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click Cancel your subscription. Bloomberg's terms of service describe the same control as Contact Support to Cancel, so expect either label.
  4. If neither appears, use the chat bubble at the bottom of Bloomberg's help page, or email contactus@bloombergsupport.com.
  5. Keep the confirmation: Bloomberg states all cancellations are confirmed the same business day and become effective at the end of your current billing period.

Bloomberg's help page and its terms of service use different wording for the same step, Cancel your subscription versus Contact Support to Cancel, so do not assume the flow is broken if the label differs from what you expected.

Cancel a Bloomberg subscription billed by Apple

Bloomberg sells digital subscriptions as in-app purchases, so a subscription started on an iPhone or iPad is Apple's to cancel and Bloomberg support cannot end it.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the Bloomberg entry.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

If Bloomberg support tells you it cannot see your subscription, this is usually why. Refunds on an Apple charge are Apple's decision under its own policy.

Cancel a Bloomberg subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription started in the Android app is a Google Play purchase and is cancelled there.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Bloomberg.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.

Cancel a Businessweek print subscription

Print is not cancelled in your Bloomberg.com account. Bloomberg routes Businessweek magazine through a separate subscription services site, and unlike digital, print does give a refund for undelivered copies.

  1. Do not look in your Bloomberg.com account: Bloomberg handles Businessweek print through a separate subscription services site rather than the digital account page.
  2. Open the Businessweek customer care area that Bloomberg links from its help page, hosted at w1.buysub.com, and use the Contact Customer Service form.
  3. Have your name, address and subscriber account number ready, which that form asks for.
  4. Ask for the cancellation and for the last issue date in writing.
  5. If an agency sold you the subscription, Bloomberg states you should direct your refund request to the agent.

Print behaves better than digital on refunds. Bloomberg states that a refund will be issued for all the remaining copies that have not been mailed at the time of cancellation, and that you should disregard any bills you may receive after cancelling.

What happens next?

  • Bloomberg states the cancellation becomes effective at the end of your current billing period, and that subscription access, delivery and subscriber benefits continue for the remainder of that period.
  • There is no money back on a digital subscription. Bloomberg states you will not receive a refund on a monthly subscription, and no refund prorated or otherwise for the remainder of an annual term.
  • Bloomberg states it reserves the right to issue refunds or credits at its sole discretion, and that issuing one does not oblige it to do so again. A refund is therefore an exception rather than a right.
  • Your Bloomberg account remains after a subscription ends, and free Bloomberg articles are still readable.
  • A subscription billed by Apple or Google Play keeps running until that store's cancellation takes effect, whatever Bloomberg support tells you.
  • Businessweek print is the exception: Bloomberg states a refund will be issued for all the remaining copies that have not been mailed at the time of cancellation, and that you should disregard any bills received after cancelling.

Cancelling a Bloomberg free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cannot find the cancel option in my account

Bloomberg documents it in the Subscription tab at the top of the page, as Cancel your subscription, while its terms of service call the same step Contact Support to Cancel. If neither is visible, use the chat bubble at the bottom of Bloomberg's help page, remembering that Bloomberg states the Messaging Assistant cannot be accessed in a private browser, or email contactus@bloombergsupport.com. If the subscription is a Businessweek print one, it will not be in the digital account at all.

I cancelled an annual plan and got nothing back

That matches the published terms. Bloomberg states you will not receive a refund, prorated or otherwise, for the remainder of the annual term, and that your access continues for the rest of that period. The cancellation stops the next renewal rather than recovering the current year.

Bloomberg says it cannot find my subscription

Usually because Apple or Google Play bills it. Bloomberg sells digital subscriptions as in-app purchases, and those do not appear in its own account records as something it can cancel. Check Settings, Subscriptions on your iPhone or the Google Play subscriptions list, using the account that made the purchase.

I was charged before the period I thought I was paying for

Bloomberg states you are charged in advance of each billing cycle, so the money moves at the start of the period rather than at its end. A cancellation made just after a renewal charge therefore lands too late for that charge, and Bloomberg does not refund the unused portion.

I cancelled the magazine but still have digital charges, or the reverse

They are separate subscriptions. A Bloomberg Businessweek print subscription and a Bloomberg.com digital subscription are billed separately, and cancelling one does not touch the other. Check the amount and description on your statement and cancel the specific one that matches. Neither has anything to do with the Bloomberg Terminal, which is a professional product on its own contract.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my Bloomberg subscription?

Sign in to your account, go to the Subscription tab at the top of the page and click Cancel your subscription. Bloomberg's terms call the same step Contact Support to Cancel. It states cancellations are confirmed the same business day and take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Will Bloomberg refund my subscription?

Not on digital. Bloomberg states you will not receive a refund on a monthly subscription, and no refund prorated or otherwise for the remainder of an annual term, while access continues to the end of the period. Businessweek print is different: Bloomberg states a refund will be issued for all remaining copies that have not been mailed at the time of cancellation.

When does my Bloomberg access stop after cancelling?

Bloomberg states the cancellation becomes effective at the end of your current billing period, and that access, delivery and subscriber benefits continue for the remainder of that period.

Is Bloomberg.com the same as the Bloomberg Terminal?

No. A Bloomberg.com digital subscription is a consumer news subscription. The Bloomberg Terminal is a separate professional product with its own contract and pricing, and nothing on this page applies to it. Bloomberg Businessweek in print is a third, separate subscription.
