In this guide
Before you start.
- Spend your credits first. ElevenLabs states that when the cancellation takes effect the account transfers to the free plan and you lose any unused credits, and it says the same for an annual subscription at the end of its annual cycle.
- Check who billed you. ElevenLabs states that for a mobile subscription all billing, renewals, upgrades and cancellations have to be managed through your device's app store account, and that ElevenLabs cannot cancel or modify App Store or Google Play subscriptions.
- Do not cancel by deleting the account. ElevenLabs states that if your account is banned or deleted it does not cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription, and that you must still cancel it manually in your app store settings.
- Cancel before the cycle rolls over. ElevenLabs states that if you cancel after the current cycle ends, even when the new invoice has not been paid yet, the new cycle has already begun and the system will not cancel the subscription until the end of that new cycle.
- If you have a legacy usage-based balance, changing plan triggers a charge. ElevenLabs states that on an upgrade or downgrade you are immediately charged for any outstanding usage-based balance as well as the price of the new plan.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel ElevenLabs, step by step.
Cancel on the ElevenLabs website
This is the documented route for a subscription bought at elevenlabs.io. It is also the only route that lets you undo the cancellation before it takes effect.
- Log in to your account at elevenlabs.io.
- Click your profile icon in the top right corner of the website to open your account menu, then select Subscription.
- Click Billing.
- In the Modify Plan section, select Cancel Plan, then Proceed.
- In the next step, select Cancel Subscription to confirm.
- Check that you see the confirmation that the cancellation is scheduled for the end of your current billing cycle.
ElevenLabs states that at any time before the end of the billing cycle you can click Resume subscription to cancel the cancellation request. It also documents a second path to the same place, under Account, then Settings, then Manage Subscription.
Cancel a subscription bought in the iOS app
Apple bills an App Store purchase, and ElevenLabs states flatly that it cannot cancel or modify one.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name (your Apple Account) at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select ElevenLabs from the list of active subscriptions.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
ElevenLabs states that a mobile subscription cannot be moved to the website while it is active: cancel it in the store, wait for it to expire at the end of the billing period, then subscribe again at elevenlabs.io. It also states that Pay As You Go is not available to app subscribers.
Cancel a subscription bought in the Android app
Google Play holds the billing relationship for an in-app purchase, and the website's Billing page will not show it.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select ElevenLabs.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.
ElevenLabs states that if you try to upgrade on the website while a mobile subscription is active you will see an alert asking you to cancel the mobile subscription first.
Downgrade instead of cancelling
A smaller plan keeps some credits coming, where cancelling wipes the balance. The trade-off is that a downgrade can shrink a Pay As You Go balance on its own.
- Open the same Subscription, then Billing page and choose a smaller plan rather than Cancel Plan.
- Read the summary ElevenLabs shows before you confirm: it states that it shows you how your existing Pay As You Go credit balance will be affected.
- Check the effective date, which is the end of the current billing cycle for a downgrade as well as a cancellation.
- Note that an annual subscription cannot be moved to a monthly one: ElevenLabs states you can upgrade from one annual plan to another, but not from annual to monthly.
ElevenLabs states that a Pay As You Go balance is stored as a dollar value rather than a fixed number of credits, and that if the new plan gives fewer credits per dollar the credit count goes down even though you have not used any. It also states that Pay As You Go credits expire 12 months after purchase.
Check your API usage before you cancel
ElevenLabs API calls draw on the same account credits as the app, so an integration left running is quietly consuming the balance you are about to lose.
- Identify any API key still in use by a script, a bot or a third-party tool.
- Revoke or rotate those keys in your account settings so nothing keeps calling the API.
- Check the usage view for what has already been spent this cycle before deciding when to cancel.
- If you are on a workspace plan, remember the pool is shared: ElevenLabs states that all workspace members share a single credit pool and that generation stops for everyone when it runs out.
ElevenLabs states that sending a request to one of its API endpoints with your API key deducts credits from your account, so API spend and app spend come from the same place rather than from a separate bill.
What happens next?
- The plan runs to the end of the cycle. ElevenLabs states that a cancellation does not take effect until then, and that the account is transferred onto the free plan at that point.
- Unused credits go. ElevenLabs states that you lose any unused subscription credits when a cancellation or downgrade takes effect, and that rollover only applies while you remain on the same subscription.
- Your content stays. ElevenLabs states that nothing will be deleted from your account unless you remove it yourself, and that it does not delete your data, although Studio project creation is capped on the free plan.
- Paid features stop. ElevenLabs states that cancelling means losing the ability to generate audio using your Instant and Professional voice clones.
- There is no pause option. ElevenLabs states plainly that it is not possible to pause a paid subscription, so cancelling and resubscribing later is the only break available.
Pausing or freezing ElevenLabs.
Can I pause my ElevenLabs plan instead?
No. ElevenLabs states that it is not possible to pause a paid subscription. Cancelling moves the account to the free plan at the end of the cycle, and nothing is deleted unless you remove it yourself.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I cancelled and a payment attempt arrived anyway
ElevenLabs explains this one directly: if you cancel after the current cycle has ended, even when the new invoice has not been paid yet, the new cycle has already begun, and the subscription is then not cancelled until the end of that new cycle. Check the date your cycle turns over against the date you clicked cancel.
The Cancel Plan button does nothing
ElevenLabs names the cause: a browser can block the popup or stop the button working. It recommends trying a different browser, and says Chrome, Edge and Firefox generally work best. If the button is simply absent, check whether a store bought the subscription, because a mobile plan is not shown on the website's billing page.
My credits dropped without me generating anything
A plan change is the usual explanation. ElevenLabs states that a Pay As You Go balance is held as a dollar value rather than a credit count, so if the new plan gives fewer credits per dollar the number falls even with no usage, while the dollar value stays the same. Subscription credits are different again: they are lost outright when a cancellation or downgrade takes effect.
I deleted my ElevenLabs account and the charges continued
ElevenLabs states that a banned or deleted account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription, and that you must still cancel it manually in your app store account settings. Deleting the account removes your access, not the store's billing.
The website will not let me upgrade or change plan
ElevenLabs states that if you try to upgrade on the website while a mobile subscription is active you see an alert asking you to cancel the mobile subscription first. Its documented sequence is to cancel in the store, wait for the subscription to expire at the end of the billing period, then subscribe again on the website.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel How to cancel an app subscription
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel my ElevenLabs subscription?
On the website: profile icon top right, Subscription, Billing, then in Modify Plan select Cancel Plan, Proceed, and Cancel Subscription. If Apple or Google Play billed you, cancel in that store instead, because ElevenLabs states it cannot cancel or modify those subscriptions.
Do I lose my ElevenLabs credits when I cancel?
Yes. ElevenLabs states that when the cancellation takes effect the account moves to the free plan and you lose any unused credits, and that this applies to annual subscriptions at the end of the annual cycle as well.
Can I get a refund from ElevenLabs?
ElevenLabs states you are eligible for a refund if the request is filed within 14 days of payment and no credit quota was used in the period you are claiming for. Requests go to its team by email from the address on the account.
What happens to my voices and projects?
They stay on the account. ElevenLabs states that nothing is deleted unless you remove it, but that cancelling costs you the ability to generate audio with your Instant and Professional voice clones, and the free plan limits how many Studio projects you can create.
