SECURITY & PRIVACYSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Norton 360 subscription.

Do this well before the renewal date, because Norton states that annual renewal payments are billed up to 35 days before renewal. Sign in to your Norton account, open the My Subscriptions tab, click Cancel Subscription Renewal or Manage Renewal, then next to Plan Renewal click Unsubscribe, choose a reason, and click No thanks, cancel my subscription. If the charge has already gone through, the refund matters more than the cancellation: Norton states an annual charge is eligible for a full refund if requested within 60 days of being charged.

Before you start.

  • Check the renewal date and then subtract five weeks. Norton states that renewal payments are billed annually up to 35 days before renewal, so the money can leave your account more than a month before the date you think of as your expiry.
  • If the charge has already landed, go for the refund rather than only the cancellation. Norton states that each annual charge is eligible for a full refund if requested within 60 days of being charged. That window, not the cancel button, is the real protection here.
  • Monthly plans are different and worse. Norton states a monthly subscription is refundable within 14 days of the date of purchase, and that subsequent monthly charges are not eligible for a refund at all.
  • The renewal price is not the price you paid. An introductory year is discounted and the renewal is at the standard rate, which is why a renewal charge is often several times the first one.
  • Uninstalling Norton does not cancel anything. Norton states plainly that uninstalling the app from your device does not automatically cancel your subscription.
  • Check who bills you. Norton states that a subscription bought as an in-app purchase can only be cancelled in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Microsoft Store, and that it cannot refund those charges. A subscription billed by an internet provider or retail partner is also outside Norton's control: Norton states it cannot issue refunds for subscriptions billed through partners.
  • Cancelling the main subscription also cancels add-ons linked to it, but cancelling an add-on on its own does not cancel the main subscription.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Norton 360, step by step.

Turn off renewal in your Norton account

This is the route for a subscription bought from Norton directly, and the one Norton documents. It stops the renewal and leaves the paid term running.

  1. Sign in to your Norton account.
  2. On the My Account page, select the My Subscriptions tab.
  3. Find the subscription you want to manage.
  4. Click Cancel Subscription Renewal or Manage Renewal next to that subscription.
  5. Next to Plan Renewal, click Unsubscribe.
  6. Select a reason and click Next. Norton states it may present options and offers to encourage you to keep the subscription.
  7. If you still want to cancel, click No thanks, cancel my subscription, then click Next.
  8. Wait for the confirmation message. Norton states to allow up to 24 hours for the change to appear in your account.

Norton states the subscription continues through the end of the term you already paid for and then ends without renewing. Norton's own help pages use inconsistent labels across versions, so if you see Cancel Renewal or Manage Subscriptions instead, that is the same control.

Ask Norton support to turn it off

This is not a fallback so much as the documented route for a large group of people: within 45 days of the renewal date, Norton subscribers report that the self-service option disappears from the account, and support becomes the only way.

  1. Contact Norton support by phone or chat and ask explicitly for automatic renewal to be turned off on the named subscription.
  2. If the charge has already been taken, ask for the refund in the same contact and cite the 60-day window Norton publishes for annual charges.
  3. Give your order number and the email address the subscription is registered to.
  4. Ask for written confirmation, and check the My Subscriptions tab afterwards to confirm the renewal is off.
  5. As a belt-and-braces step, some subscribers also remove the stored payment method from the account, though this does not replace cancelling.

Norton publishes no self-service refund form for the United States: it directs refund requests to support. A paper refund form exists for some regions and requires the 25-character product key and proof of purchase.

Cancel a Google Play in-app subscription

The Norton 360 Android app sells its own annual subscription through Google Play, with a 7-day trial that converts. This is a separate purchase from a desktop Norton 360 subscription, and Norton states it can only be cancelled in the store.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Norton 360.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.

The Play listing states an annual subscription is required to activate the 7-day trial, and that you must cancel from your Google Play account before the trial ends to avoid payment. Norton states it cannot refund a store-billed charge: that request goes to Google.

What happens next?

  • Norton states the subscription runs through the end of the term you already paid for and then does not renew. Protection does not stop the day you cancel.
  • Allow up to 24 hours for the change to show in the account, and check it rather than assuming.
  • Cancelling does not return a charge that has already been taken. Because Norton bills up to 35 days early, a cancellation made in what feels like good time can land after the money moved, and at that point the 60-day refund window is the thing to use.
  • Norton states that after a refund the software may automatically deactivate and become non-operational, and that you must delete all copies of it.
  • A refunded or cancelled subscription can leave add-ons running if they were bought separately. Check the My Subscriptions tab for more than one line.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

The option to turn off automatic renewal is not in my account

This is the most reported Norton problem and there is a known mechanism behind it: within 45 days of the renewal date, subscribers report that the self-service option to turn off automatic renewal is no longer offered in the Norton account, and that support has to do it. Since Norton also bills up to 35 days before renewal, the two windows overlap, so people can lose self-service cancellation shortly before being charged. Contact support directly and ask them to turn it off.

I was charged weeks before my subscription expired

That is Norton's documented billing behaviour rather than an error. Norton states renewal payments are billed annually up to 35 days before renewal. Subscribers regularly report charges landing a month or more before the expiry date they expected. The charge is not reversed by cancelling, so request the refund: Norton states an annual charge is refundable within 60 days of being charged.

I cancelled and was charged anyway

Check whether the cancellation registered, allowing for the up to 24 hours Norton says the change takes to appear, and check whether the charge predates it given the early billing. Then treat it as a refund rather than a cancellation problem, and cite the 60-day window on the annual charge. On a monthly plan this will not work: Norton states subsequent monthly charges are not eligible for a refund.

The renewal price is far higher than what I paid

The first term is an introductory price and the renewal is at the standard rate. Norton states it emails annual subscribers the renewal price and billing date before any charge occurs, but it publishes no specific number of days of notice, and subscribers frequently report not seeing that email. If the higher charge has already been taken, the 60-day refund window on annual charges is the route.

I bought Norton through my internet provider or a retailer

Norton cannot cancel or refund what it did not bill. It states plainly that it cannot issue refunds for subscriptions billed through partners and that you should contact the company that bills you. For a retail box purchase that you activated with Norton, the subscription is in your Norton account and the normal route applies, but a refund request needs the subscription key label and the original receipt.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I stop Norton from automatically renewing?

Sign in to your Norton account, open the My Subscriptions tab, click Cancel Subscription Renewal or Manage Renewal, click Unsubscribe next to Plan Renewal, select a reason, then click No thanks, cancel my subscription. Norton says to allow up to 24 hours for the change to appear.

Can I get a refund on a Norton renewal?

For an annual subscription, Norton states each annual charge is eligible for a full refund if requested within 60 days of being charged. For a monthly subscription, only the initial purchase is refundable, within 14 days, and Norton states subsequent monthly charges are not eligible.

Why was I charged before my Norton subscription expired?

Norton states that annual renewal payments are billed up to 35 days before renewal. The early charge is expected behaviour, which is why cancelling in the final month often comes too late to prevent it.

Does uninstalling Norton cancel my subscription?

No. Norton states that uninstalling the app from your device does not automatically cancel your subscription, and that a store-bought subscription must be cancelled in that store. Removing the software leaves the billing running.
