SECURITY & PRIVACYSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Dashlane subscription.

Export your passwords before the subscription ends. Dashlane states that after a subscription ends you can still log in, but your passwords remain accessible for export only: you cannot add, edit, copy or view them in Dashlane. To cancel, open the Dashlane web app, open the Vault menu in the top left and select Subscription, then select Cancel your subscription in the right panel. Dashlane states it offers a full refund when you cancel within 30 days of buying.

Before you start.

  • Export the vault first. This is the one step that matters most here, because Dashlane's post-subscription state is stricter than most: it states that once the plan ends you cannot view or copy your passwords in Dashlane, only export them.
  • An exported vault is a plaintext file holding every password you own. Store it offline, keep it off email and cloud drives, and delete it as soon as the passwords are loaded into whatever you are moving to.
  • Check the 30-day refund window against your purchase date before cancelling. Dashlane states a full refund is available when you cancel within 30 days of buying the subscription, and that refunds reach a credit card in 3 to 5 business days.
  • Find out who charged you. Dashlane states that the in-app cancellation is only available if you paid by credit card on its website. A purchase through Apple, Google Play or PayPal is cancelled through that channel instead.
  • Cancelling a trial and cancelling a paid plan are the same action here: turning off autorenewal before the billing date is what prevents the charge.
  • Cancelling the subscription does not delete the account or the data. Deleting the Dashlane account is a separate action, and it is the one that destroys your passwords, so do not use it as a way to cancel.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Dashlane, step by step.

Cancel in the Dashlane web app

This is the route for a subscription paid by credit card on Dashlane's website. Dashlane states this in-app option is available only for that payment channel.

  1. Open Dashlane in a computer browser and sign in.
  2. Open the Vault menu in the top left of the app and select Subscription.
  3. On the Subscription page, select Cancel your subscription in the right panel.
  4. Work through the confirmation prompts to the end.
  5. If you are within 30 days of buying, use the refund link Dashlane shows in the right panel once the cancellation is complete.

Dashlane states that cancelling keeps your current plan until the end of the billing period and turns off autorenewal. The refund link appears after the cancellation, not before it, so do not close the page at the confirmation.

Cancel an Apple subscription

Dashlane sells Premium through the App Store. If Apple emailed the receipt, Apple bills you and the cancellation happens in iOS settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select Dashlane and tap the cancellation option, then confirm.

If Dashlane is not in the list, the subscription was paid with a different Apple Account. The receipt email names the one that was charged.

Cancel a Google Play subscription

A subscription started in the Android app is billed by Google Play, and Dashlane's own cancel page cannot stop it.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Dashlane.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.

Google states that it cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf. Dashlane support can help you identify a Play purchase but cannot stop the billing.

What happens next?

  • The plan runs to the end of the billing period you already paid for, and autorenewal is off.
  • Dashlane states that you keep the data saved in your account when the subscription ends. Nothing is deleted by cancelling.
  • What changes is access. Dashlane states that after the subscription ends you can continue to log in, but passwords are accessible for export only: adding, editing, copying and viewing them in Dashlane stops. Plan around that before the date rather than after it.
  • Because export stays available, the vault is still recoverable after the plan lapses. It is far less painful to do it while the plan is live, when you can also check the exported file against what you see on screen.
  • Dashlane states that cancelling within 30 days of buying qualifies for a full refund, and that credit card refunds take 3 to 5 business days.

Do I need to cancel a Dashlane trial to avoid being charged?

Yes, if the trial was set up to convert. Turning off autorenewal before the billing date is what prevents the charge, and Dashlane publishes a dedicated page on trials converting to paid plans. Check the billing date in your account rather than estimating it.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option on my Subscription page

Dashlane states the in-app cancellation only appears when you paid by credit card on its website. If you bought through the App Store, Google Play or PayPal, that channel holds the subscription and the cancel option lives there. The receipt tells you which: check who the email is from before assuming the page is broken.

My subscription ended and I cannot see my passwords

That is Dashlane's documented behaviour rather than a fault. It states that after a subscription ends, passwords remain accessible for export only and cannot be added, edited, copied or viewed in the app. Use the export to move them into another password manager, or restart a plan to get normal access back.

I cancelled but was charged again

Compare the charge date with the date the cancellation registered, and check the channel. A cancellation made on Dashlane's website does not stop an Apple or Google Play subscription, which is the usual explanation when both exist. If the charge is within 30 days of purchase, the refund window Dashlane publishes still applies.

I deleted the app instead of cancelling

Removing the app does not stop the billing on any channel. A website subscription keeps renewing, an App Store or Play subscription keeps renewing, and the account stays open. Reinstall or sign in through a browser and cancel properly.

I cancelled by mistake and want the plan back

Dashlane publishes a route for renewing a plan you cancelled by mistake, and doing it before the current period ends avoids the export-only state entirely. If the period has already ended, restarting the subscription restores full access to the same vault: the data is still there.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

What happens to my passwords when my Dashlane subscription ends?

They are not deleted, but access narrows sharply. Dashlane states you can still log in, and passwords remain accessible for export only: you cannot add, edit, copy or view them in Dashlane. Export before the plan ends if you intend to keep using those passwords elsewhere.

Can I get a refund from Dashlane?

Dashlane states it offers a full refund when you cancel within 30 days of buying the subscription, with credit card refunds arriving in 3 to 5 business days. A purchase made through Apple or Google Play is refunded by that store under its own policy instead.

Does cancelling Dashlane delete my account?

No. Cancelling stops the renewal and leaves the account and its data in place. Deleting the account is a separate action that removes the data, so do not use it to cancel a subscription.
