STREAMINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Philo subscription.

Philo's terms set a deadline most people never see: to avoid being charged for the next renewed subscription term, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the next renewal billing date. Cancelling on the day of the renewal is too late. Cancel by signing in to your Account page and following the cancellation instructions there, or by contacting Philo through philo.com/contact to request a cancellation. Your renewal date is in your Account settings. If Amazon, Roku or Apple bills you, Philo states you are directed to their application or website to manage the subscription and cancellation, and those billers can set their own, different deadline. Philo states it will not provide a refund or credit for any period remaining in your subscription after you cancel.

Before you start.

  • Find your renewal date and count backwards. Philo's terms state that to avoid being charged for the next renewed subscription term you must cancel at least 24 hours before the next renewal billing date, and that you can view your subscription renewal dates in your Account settings.
  • Check who bills you. Philo's terms name Amazon, Roku and Apple as examples of third-party billers, and state that in those cases you are directed to their application or website to manage your subscription and cancellation. Philo also notes that such a biller may set another deadline for cancellation of its own.
  • Know what happens to add-ons. Philo's terms state that cancellation of your Core Service subscription will also cancel your Add-On subscriptions. If you only want to drop an add-on, that is a different action.
  • Do not count on a refund. Philo's terms state that unless required by law, it will not provide a refund or credit for any reason, including for any period remaining in your subscription after you cancel.
  • If you are on a free trial, cancel before it expires. Philo's terms state that at the end of the trial period and each subsequent billing period you are charged if you have not cancelled, and that to avoid any charges you must cancel prior to expiration of the free trial period. There is a limit of one free trial per household.
  • If you plan to come back, note the reactivation behaviour. Philo's terms state that if you reactivate your subscription, all paid subscriptions associated with your account immediately prior to cancellation, including any add-ons, will be reactivated.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Philo, step by step.

Cancel in your Philo Account page

This is one of the two routes Philo's terms name for a subscription Philo bills directly. It is also where the renewal date lives, which you need before cancelling.

  1. Sign in to your Philo account and open your Account page.
  2. Check your subscription renewal date, which Philo states you can view in your Account settings.
  3. Follow the cancellation instructions on that page.
  4. Confirm you have cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal billing date, since Philo's terms make that the deadline for avoiding the next charge.
  5. Check the account afterwards to confirm the subscription is set to end.

Philo's terms state that cancellation takes effect at the end of the then-current subscription term, so you keep the service until then rather than losing it immediately.

Cancel by contacting Philo

Philo's terms name this as an equal alternative to the Account page, which matters when the account page will not complete the cancellation in time.

  1. Go to philo.com/contact.
  2. Request a cancellation of your subscription, stating clearly that you want it cancelled rather than paused or changed.
  3. Do this at least 24 hours before your next renewal billing date.
  4. Keep the confirmation, since a request made inside the deadline is what you would rely on if a charge still lands.

Philo lists help@philo.com and 855-CSPHILO (855-277-4456) as its contact details in the same terms document.

Cancel a subscription Amazon, Roku or Apple bills

Philo's terms are explicit that for these billers you are sent to their app or website, and that the deadline may be theirs rather than Philo's.

  1. Check the merchant name on your card or bank statement to confirm who bills you.
  2. If it reads Apple, open Settings on your device, tap your name, tap Subscriptions and cancel Philo there.
  3. If it reads Roku, sign in at my.roku.com, open your subscriptions and unsubscribe from Philo.
  4. If it reads Amazon, cancel it in your Amazon subscriptions list.
  5. Check that biller's own cancellation deadline, which Philo's terms acknowledge may differ from its own 24 hours.

Philo's terms state that for certain third-party billers, the cancellation will not be reflected in your Philo Account until you reach the end of your billing cycle. A Philo account that still shows the subscription is therefore not proof the cancellation failed.

Cancel an add-on but keep Philo

Add-ons are separately priced subscriptions that ride on the core package, and Philo's terms state each one can be cancelled individually.

  1. Sign in to your Account page on Philo.com.
  2. Click the Manage Add-Ons button.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to cancel the add-on you no longer want.
  4. Alternatively, contact Philo through philo.com/contact to request the add-on cancellation.

Philo's terms state that add-ons can only be purchased if you are directly billed by Philo rather than through a third-party biller, and that cancelling the Core Service subscription also cancels the add-ons.

What happens next?

  • Philo's terms state that cancellation takes effect at the end of the then-current subscription term, so access continues until that point.
  • Philo's terms state that unless required by law, it will not provide a refund or credit for any reason, including for any period remaining after you cancel.
  • Cancelling the core package cancels the add-ons with it, per Philo's terms.
  • Philo's terms state that if you reactivate later, all paid subscriptions associated with the account immediately before cancellation, including add-ons, are reactivated. That is convenient if you wanted them back and expensive if you did not.
  • Philo's terms state that after cancelling or deleting your account, your obligations under the agreement continue to apply to your use of the services, including the Philo Free Service.
  • A free trial is one per household, per Philo's terms, so cancelling a trial does not reset the ability to take another one later.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled on the renewal day and was still charged

Philo's terms set the deadline a day earlier than most people assume: to avoid being charged for the next renewed subscription term, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the next renewal billing date. A cancellation made on the renewal day itself falls inside that window, so the charge goes through and the cancellation applies to the term after. Philo's terms also rule out a refund for the remaining period.

I cancelled through Roku or Amazon but Philo still shows my subscription

Philo documents this exact behaviour: for certain third-party billers, the cancellation will not be reflected in your Philo Account until you reach the end of your billing cycle. So the Philo account lagging behind is expected rather than a sign the cancellation failed. Keep the confirmation from Roku, Amazon or Apple, since that is the record that matters.

I cancelled an add-on and lost my whole Philo subscription

Check which one you cancelled. Philo's terms state that cancellation of your Core Service subscription will also cancel your Add-On subscriptions, so cancelling the core package takes everything with it. To drop an add-on while keeping Philo, use the Manage Add-Ons button on your Account page, or ask through philo.com/contact, rather than cancelling the subscription itself.

I resubscribed and add-ons I did not want came back

That is written into Philo's terms: if you reactivate your subscription, all paid subscriptions associated with your account immediately prior to cancellation, including any add-ons, will be reactivated. If you cancelled with three add-ons attached, coming back restores all three and their separate fees. Check the Manage Add-Ons page immediately after reactivating.

I cannot buy or manage an add-on at all

Philo's terms give the reason: to purchase an add-on subscription you must be a current Core Package subscriber and be directly billed by Philo rather than through a third-party biller. If Amazon, Roku or Apple bills your Philo subscription, the add-on controls on Philo.com are not available to you, and add-on changes have to go through that biller or a switch to direct billing.
