HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel AllTrails subscription.

AllTrails says the steps to disable auto-renew vary depending on which platform you used to purchase your subscription. If you bought it on AllTrails.com, you can cancel from the iOS or Android app: tap your profile image at top right, tap the Settings gear icon at top right, then tap Manage subscription under Account and follow the prompts. On the website, AllTrails documents hovering over your profile image, selecting Settings, then under Account Settings clicking Turn off auto-renew and confirming with OK. If Apple or Google billed you, cancel in that store. AllTrails says you keep the subscription for the remainder of your yearly billing period, and that your account data is unaffected by subscription changes.

Before you start.

  • Work out which platform sold it to you, since AllTrails says the steps vary by platform and a cancellation in the wrong place does nothing.
  • If you are on a trial, count carefully. AllTrails says the trial runs 7 days and to cancel by the end of the 6th day to avoid being charged for the annual subscription.
  • Beware a second trial. AllTrails states that if you have previously used a free trial you will be automatically billed for an annual subscription upon initiating a new trial, and that this applies regardless of the platform used to activate it.
  • Expect an annual term. AllTrails describes its subscriptions in annual terms and says disabling auto-renew leaves access for the remainder of your yearly billing period, so cancelling mid-year does not end the plan early.
  • Your data is safe either way. AllTrails says your account data is securely stored on its servers and will be unaffected by subscription changes, and that an account reverting to free does not lose data.
  • If you want Plus rather than Peak instead of leaving entirely, AllTrails documents a downgrade path: Manage subscription, then follow the prompts to Switch to Plus.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel AllTrails, step by step.

Cancel an AllTrails.com subscription from the app

AllTrails documents this route for subscriptions purchased through AllTrails.com, and it works from either the iOS or Android app.

  1. Open the AllTrails app and tap your profile image at top right.
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon at top right.
  3. Tap Manage subscription under Account.
  4. Follow the prompts to cancel.
  5. Check that auto-renew now shows as off and note the date access runs to.

This is for subscriptions bought on AllTrails.com. If yours came from a store, the app will route you to that store instead.

Turn off auto-renew on AllTrails.com

The website route uses different wording from the app: it is labelled as turning off auto-renew rather than cancelling.

  1. Log into your account at AllTrails.com.
  2. Hover over your profile image and select Settings.
  3. Under Account Settings, click Turn off auto-renew.
  4. Confirm by clicking OK.
  5. Check that the setting has saved.

Turning off auto-renew is the cancellation: AllTrails says you still have access for the remainder of your yearly billing period.

Cancel an Apple-billed AllTrails subscription

Use this if you subscribed inside the iPhone app, where Apple holds the billing.

  1. Go into your iPhone's settings.
  2. Tap the topmost menu option with your name and profile image.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select AllTrails.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and select Cancel subscription, then select Confirm to cancel.

AllTrails says that if you do not see the option to cancel, only to resubscribe, you have already successfully disabled auto-renew and no further action is needed. It also documents signing in at Apple's subscriptions page in a browser if you no longer have the iOS device.

Cancel a Google Play-billed AllTrails subscription

Use this if you subscribed inside the Android app through Google Play.

  1. Open the Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Tap your profile image at the top right corner and select Payments & subscriptions.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap the AllTrails icon to open the subscription details.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription, select a reason, tap Continue, then confirm on the next screen by tapping Cancel Subscription.

AllTrails says that if you no longer have access to your Android device, its support bot Scout can turn off auto-renew for you through the chat icon on its help pages.

What happens next?

  • AllTrails says that if you disable auto-renew on your account, you still have access to your subscription for the remainder of your yearly billing period.
  • Your saved content stays. AllTrails states that all of your account data is securely stored on its servers and will be unaffected by the subscription changes.
  • The account reverts to free rather than being closed. AllTrails describes an account temporarily reverting to a free account upon expiration, with no data lost.
  • Offline maps and the other subscriber features stop at the end of the term. Plan any downloads you want before that date rather than after.
  • Restarting later is straightforward, but a second free trial is not free: AllTrails says a repeat trial bills the annual subscription immediately.

Cancelling a AllTrails free trial.

When do I need to cancel an AllTrails free trial?

AllTrails says the trial is 7 days and to cancel by the end of the 6th day to avoid being charged for the annual subscription.

Can I get a second AllTrails free trial?

Not really. AllTrails says that if you have previously used a free trial you will be automatically billed for an annual subscription upon initiating a new one, whatever platform you use.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?

Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option, only resubscribe

AllTrails addresses this directly for Apple subscriptions: if you do not see the option to cancel, only to resubscribe, then you have already successfully disabled auto-renew and no further action is needed. The screen is telling you the subscription is set to expire rather than renew. Check the expiry date shown to confirm when access ends.

I started another free trial and was charged straight away

That is the documented behaviour, not an error. AllTrails states that if you have previously used a free trial, you will be automatically billed for an annual subscription upon initiating a new trial, and that this policy applies regardless of the platform used to activate the trial. It also says lapsed subscriptions are not eligible for a trial and that current Plus members cannot start a Peak trial.

I lost my phone and cannot cancel in the store

Both stores have a browser route and AllTrails documents them. For Apple, visit Apple's subscriptions page in any web browser, log in with your Apple account, then click the AllTrails app on the Subscriptions page and proceed to cancel. For Android, AllTrails says its support bot Scout can turn off auto-renew for you, reachable through the chat icon at the bottom right of its help pages.

Will I lose my saved trails, lists and maps?

No. AllTrails says all of your account data is securely stored on its servers and will be unaffected by subscription changes, and describes an account reverting to free on expiration without losing data. What stops is access to subscriber features such as offline maps, so download anything you need for a trip before the term ends.

I am on Peak and only want Plus

Cancelling is not the way to do that, and AllTrails documents a downgrade instead: in the app, tap your profile image, the Settings gear, then Manage subscription under Account and follow the prompts to Switch to Plus. If your subscription is through a store and you no longer have the device, AllTrails says to cancel the Peak subscription, wait for it to expire, then repurchase at the Plus tier.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my AllTrails subscription?

Through the platform that sold it. For AllTrails.com purchases, use Manage subscription in the app under your profile and Settings, or Turn off auto-renew under Account Settings on the website. For store purchases, cancel in Apple's or Google's subscription list.

Do I lose my AllTrails data when I cancel?

No. AllTrails says your account data is securely stored on its servers and unaffected by subscription changes, and that an account reverting to free does not lose data.
