HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel WHOOP membership.

WHOOP bills a WHOOP membership itself rather than through Apple or Google, so it is cancelled through your WHOOP account rather than in a store subscription list. Open your account on whoop.com or in the WHOOP app and look for the membership or billing section, and use WHOOP support if the option is not available to you there. The detail that decides the outcome is your membership term: WHOOP memberships have historically been sold as a commitment for a fixed period rather than as a rolling monthly plan, so check the term and renewal date on your own account before assuming a cancellation stops the next payment.

Before you start.

  • Find your membership term and renewal date in your WHOOP account before you do anything else. A WHOOP membership is normally a committed term rather than a month-to-month subscription, and the renewal date is what your cancellation has to beat.
  • Understand what you own. The WHOOP strap is a sensor that depends on the membership: unlike a watch, it does not function as a standalone device with a screen, so ending the membership is not like ending an app subscription next to hardware that keeps doing its job.
  • Check who charges you. WHOOP bills directly, and the WHOOP listings on the App Store and Google Play show no in-app purchases, so there is unlikely to be a store subscription to cancel. Look at your card statement to confirm the charge comes from WHOOP.
  • Decide whether you want to cancel or pause. WHOOP has offered a membership pause in the past, which suits a few months away better than cancelling and rejoining at current pricing.
  • Export or note anything you want to keep. Your recovery, strain and sleep history lives in the WHOOP app, and access to it is part of what the membership provides.
  • If your membership came bundled with hardware, check whether the hardware was paid for separately or as part of the membership, since that affects what happens to the strap when the membership ends.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel WHOOP, step by step.

Cancel in your WHOOP account

WHOOP bills the membership itself, so the cancellation belongs in your own account rather than in an app store. Work in a browser if the app does not show the option.

  1. Sign in to your account on whoop.com, or open the WHOOP app and go to your profile.
  2. Open the membership or billing section of your account settings.
  3. Look for the option to manage or cancel the membership, and check the renewal date shown there.
  4. Follow the prompts through to a confirmation rather than stopping at an offer to pause or discount the membership.
  5. Keep the confirmation and note the date your access is said to end.

If the account pages show a renewal date but no cancellation control, that usually points to a committed term that has not reached its end. Contact support and ask what your term allows.

Cancel through WHOOP support

Use this when the account route does not offer cancellation, which is common on committed terms, or when you cannot sign in to the account that holds the membership.

  1. Open WHOOP's support site and start a request from the membership or billing section.
  2. Give the email address on the account and say plainly that you want to cancel the membership rather than pause it.
  3. Ask three questions: the end date of your current committed term, whether cancelling now stops the next charge, and what happens to the strap.
  4. Ask for written confirmation of the cancellation and its effective date.
  5. Keep that confirmation and watch your statement through the next billing date.

Ask whether what you are being offered is a cancellation, a pause or a deferral. They produce different charges and are easy to confuse in a chat thread.

What happens next?

  • Expect access to continue to the end of the period or term you have paid for rather than stopping the day you cancel. Check the end date on your confirmation.
  • The strap stops being useful in the way a watch would not. WHOOP hardware is a sensor tied to the membership and the app, so without an active membership it does not carry on as an independent device.
  • Your recorded history sits in the WHOOP app and account. If continued access to it matters to you, check what remains visible before the membership lapses rather than after.
  • Cancelling the membership does not automatically delete your account or your data. Account deletion is a separate request.
  • If you rejoin later, expect the pricing and membership terms current at that time rather than the ones you are leaving.

Pausing or freezing WHOOP.

Can I pause my WHOOP membership instead?

WHOOP has offered a membership pause, which is worth asking about if you are stopping for a few months rather than for good. Confirm with support whether what you are being given is a pause or a cancellation, since only one of them ends the membership.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no WHOOP subscription in my Apple or Google account

That is expected. WHOOP bills the membership directly and its listings on the App Store and Google Play show no in-app purchases, so there is no store subscription to cancel. Looking for one and not finding it is not evidence that you already cancelled. Check your card or bank statement to confirm the charge comes from WHOOP, then cancel through your WHOOP account or support.

I cancelled but I was charged for the rest of my term

WHOOP memberships are normally sold as a commitment for a fixed period rather than as a rolling monthly plan, which means cancelling part-way through can stop the renewal without stopping the remaining payments of the current term. Check the term and renewal date in your account. If the charges are the balance of a term you agreed to, they are generally treated as owed. If they run past the end date on your confirmation, take that confirmation to support.

I cannot find a cancel option anywhere in my account

On a committed term the control is often absent rather than hidden, because there is nothing to cancel until the term is due to renew. Rather than hunting for it, contact WHOOP support, state that you want to cancel, and ask them to tell you the end date of your committed term and whether the renewal is now stopped. Get that answer in writing so a later charge can be checked against it.

I stopped wearing the strap months ago and only just noticed the charges

Not wearing the device does nothing to the billing, and neither does uninstalling the app. The membership renews on its own schedule regardless of use. Cancel it properly through your account or support, and ask whether anything can be done about the unused period, treating that as a request the company can decline rather than an entitlement.

Do I have to send the strap back?

Ask support directly rather than assuming, because the answer depends on how the hardware was supplied with your membership. Hardware that came bundled as part of a membership and hardware bought outright are not necessarily treated the same way. Get the answer in writing before you post anything, and keep proof of postage if you do return it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my WHOOP membership?

Through your WHOOP account rather than through an app store, since WHOOP bills the membership directly. Open the membership or billing section of your account on whoop.com or in the app, and contact WHOOP support if no cancellation option appears there.

Does the WHOOP strap work without a membership?

Not in any useful sense. The strap is a screenless sensor that depends on the membership and the app to collect and show anything, so ending the membership is not comparable to cancelling an app subscription on a watch that keeps telling the time.

Can I cancel WHOOP before my committed term ends?

Check your own account, because WHOOP memberships have been sold as fixed commitments rather than rolling monthly plans. Cancelling normally stops the renewal at the end of the term, which is not the same as stopping payments immediately. Ask support to confirm your term end date in writing.

What happens to my WHOOP data when I cancel?

Cancelling the membership is a separate act from deleting your account, so the account and its history are not removed by cancelling. Access to the data is part of what the membership provides, so check what stays visible before the membership lapses.
