HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel MyFitnessPal subscription.

MyFitnessPal says you must process a request to cancel your renewal using the same platform on which you originally paid. On the website: log in with the same email and password you use for the app, click Settings, then Subscription Settings, and set the Auto-Renewal toggle at the bottom from On to Off. On iOS: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, MyFitnessPal, Cancel Subscription. On Android: Play Store, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, your MyFitnessPal subscription, Cancel Subscription. MyFitnessPal warns that if you cancel less than 24 hours before the renewal, your membership or subscription may still renew, and says Premium features stay available to the end of the current paid period.

Before you start.

  • Identify the platform that charged you. MyFitnessPal states that you must cancel using the same platform on which you originally paid, and that it has no way to access an Apple subscription on its end.
  • Give yourself more than 24 hours. MyFitnessPal says you can cancel at any time before your next renewal date, but that if you cancel less than 24 hours before the renewal, your membership or subscription may still renew.
  • Understand what you are cancelling. MyFitnessPal describes this as cancelling the next billing charge, with Premium features remaining available until the end of the current paid subscription period regardless of when you cancel.
  • Check whether you are on Premium or Premium+. MyFitnessPal sells both, with Premium+ including everything in Premium plus meal planning and grocery tools, so make sure the subscription you cancel is the one being charged.
  • For Apple purchases, note who you have to deal with. MyFitnessPal says Apple controls all of their services, that only Apple can help with cancellation or refund requests for subscriptions started on the App Store, and gives Apple's number as (800) MY-APPLE, (800) 692-7753.
  • Your diary is not at stake. MyFitnessPal says that once Premium ends, ads return and the rest of your account stays exactly as it was, including your diary, your goals and your history.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel MyFitnessPal, step by step.

Cancel a web subscription on myfitnesspal.com

MyFitnessPal says subscriptions purchased on the website are managed on the website, where web purchases are handled by its payment partner Stripe.

  1. Log in to myfitnesspal.com using the same email address and password you use for the app.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Subscription Settings.
  4. Set the Auto-Renewal toggle at the bottom from On to Off.
  5. Check that the toggle has saved as Off, which opts you out of Premium at the end of the current billing cycle.

This route turns off auto-renewal rather than ending access at once. MyFitnessPal describes it as opting out of Premium at the end of your current billing cycle.

Cancel an Apple-billed MyFitnessPal subscription

MyFitnessPal says App Store purchases are managed solely by Apple and that it cannot access your payment information or subscription on its end.

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Tap on your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select MyFitnessPal.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

MyFitnessPal says only Apple can help with cancellation or refund requests for subscriptions started on the App Store, and lists Apple's number as (800) MY-APPLE.

Cancel a Google Play-billed MyFitnessPal subscription

MyFitnessPal says subscriptions purchased via its Android app are managed in your Google Play Store account controls.

  1. Open your Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the upper right to open the menu.
  3. Tap Payments and subscriptions, then tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select your MyFitnessPal subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription at the bottom.

Use the Google Account that bought the subscription. One bought on a different account will not appear in this list.

What happens next?

  • MyFitnessPal says Premium features remain available to you until the end of your current paid subscription period, regardless of when you cancel the automatic renewal.
  • Ads come back. MyFitnessPal says the ad-free experience lasts as long as your subscription is active, and once it ends ads return.
  • Your data stays exactly as it was. MyFitnessPal says the rest of your account is unchanged, including your diary, your goals and your history.
  • The free version continues. Logging food and exercise, creating recipes, tracking measurements and connecting partner apps are all in the free tier.
  • One subscription covers iOS, Android and the website, so there is only one to cancel unless you accidentally started a second on another platform.

Cancelling a MyFitnessPal free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?

Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled but was charged the next day

MyFitnessPal names this case directly: if you cancel less than 24 hours before the renewal, your membership or subscription may still renew. The renewal is queued before the cancellation registers. Check the renewal date against when you cancelled. For future cycles the cancellation should hold, and if Apple took the payment, MyFitnessPal says only Apple can help with refund requests for App Store subscriptions.

MyFitnessPal is not in my Apple or Google subscription list

That usually means the subscription was bought somewhere else. MyFitnessPal says web purchases are handled by Stripe and managed on the website, so a subscription bought on myfitnesspal.com will never appear in a store list. Log in to the website and check Settings, then Subscription Settings, for the Auto-Renewal toggle. It can also mean you are signed in to a different Apple Account or Google Account from the one that paid.

I turned off auto-renewal but Premium is still active

That is the expected behaviour rather than a failed cancellation. MyFitnessPal describes the toggle as opting out of Premium at the end of your current billing cycle, and says Premium features remain available until the end of the current paid period. The check to make is that the toggle has saved as Off and that no renewal date is still showing as upcoming.

I am still seeing ads even though I paid

MyFitnessPal lists the causes: sign in with the same email address you used to buy Premium, since ads only disappear for the account that holds the subscription. Close the app completely and reopen it, or sign out and back in on the website. It also notes that due to technical limitations, Premium users visiting the Blog on the web may see ads there for up to 7 days in certain circumstances.

I think I am paying for MyFitnessPal twice

One Premium subscription covers the iOS app, the Android app and the website, so a second charge means a second subscription rather than a platform fee. This typically happens after switching phones or signing up again with a different email address. Check the website under Subscription Settings, your Apple subscriptions and your Google Play subscriptions in turn, and cancel whichever ones you find on each platform.
