Before you start.
- Find your expiration date on the My Membership page, then look 30 days earlier. Barnes & Noble says the annual fee is charged about 30 days before the membership expires, so that is your real deadline.
- Sign in with the bn.com account that uses the same email address as your membership. Barnes & Noble says you must use that account to complete the cancellation yourself.
- Decide which outcome you want. Cancelling automatic renewal keeps Premium to the end of the term; terminating ends it immediately and you lose your stamps and rewards.
- If a renewal has already been charged, check whether you have used the discount or any other benefit since. An unused membership within 30 days of the renewal charge can be refunded in full.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Barnes & Noble Membership, step by step.
Click Cancel Premium in My Account
This is the self-service route Barnes & Noble documents for Premium and Legacy members. It turns off automatic renewal rather than ending the membership on the spot.
- Sign in at barnesandnoble.com with the email address on your membership.
- Open My Account and go to the My Membership page.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Premium.
- Follow the prompts that follow until the change is confirmed.
- Watch for the confirmation email. Barnes & Noble says the updated status can take up to one business day to show in your account.
If you paid in a store with cash, Barnes & Noble says you were never enrolled in automatic renewal, so there is nothing to cancel: the membership simply converts to Rewards when it expires.
Submit a Request to Cancel Membership
Barnes & Noble's Help Center has a dedicated cancellation request form. Use it if the Cancel Premium button does not appear, for example because the membership is not on your bn.com account.
- Open the Barnes & Noble Help Center cancellation options page and select Submit a Request to Cancel Membership.
- Fill in the form with the details of the membership you want to stop.
- Submit it. Barnes & Noble says this turns off automatic renewal and you are notified by email once the change is made.
End the membership immediately
Termination is a different request from cancelling renewal. Use it only if you want the membership to stop now and accept losing everything earned on it.
- Email Customer Service at membership@bn.com.
- Say that you want to terminate your Premium or Rewards Membership, not just turn off automatic renewal.
- Keep the reply that confirms termination has been processed.
Barnes & Noble says termination takes effect when the request is processed, any stamps and rewards expire, the Premium fee is not refunded, and a terminated membership cannot be reactivated.
What happens next?
- Premium stays active until the end of the current term. If you do not renew, Barnes & Noble converts it to a free Rewards Membership and your accrued stamps and rewards stay on it.
- To turn automatic renewal back on later, Barnes & Noble says you can only do it when manually renewing Premium for another year near the end of the term.
- Membership fees are not refundable, with one exception: Barnes & Noble refunds the fee if you cancel within the first 30 days of a term and did not use the membership for a discount or benefit in that time.
- Rewards Membership is free, but Barnes & Noble says stamps can expire if the account becomes inactive, so use or log in to the account at least once every 12 months if you want to keep them.

I was charged a month before my membership expired
That is how renewal works. Barnes & Noble charges the annual fee about 30 days before the expiration date. If it already went through, you can still get a full refund if you ask within 30 days of the renewal charge and have not used the membership for a discount or benefit since.
There is no Cancel Premium button on my account
Check that you are signed in with the same email address as your membership; Barnes & Noble says you must use that account. If the membership is not linked to your bn.com account, use Submit a Request to Cancel Membership instead.
I cancelled but my account still shows auto renewal
Barnes & Noble says the status can take up to one business day to update. Wait for the confirmation email, and if it does not arrive, use the request form or B&N Chat.
I want my money back for a renewal I did not want
Both conditions have to be met: the request is made no more than 30 days after the renewal term started, and the membership has not been used since to get a discount or benefit. If so, contact Customer Service, for example through B&N Chat, and ask for the refund.

How do I cancel my Barnes & Noble membership?
