In this guide
Before you start.
- Find your expiration date on the My Account page, under your Club Card Number. Books-A-Million's terms say the renewal fee is billed approximately one month before the membership expires.
- Link your card to your online account if it is not already. In My Account, select Membership, enter the number and click Apply Club Card Number. A membership bought online is linked automatically.
- Have your membership card number, or the phone number on the account, ready if you contact Customer Support. That is what Books-A-Million asks for.
- If you bought the membership in a store within the last 30 days and want your money back, keep the receipt, the membership card and the reward card you were given. Customer Service cannot refund a store transaction.
How to find all your subscriptions How to cancel a membership
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Books-A-Million Millionaire's Club, step by step.
Turn off auto-renewal in My Account
This is the four-step route Books-A-Million documents. It stops future renewal charges and keeps your benefits until the membership expires.
- Sign in to your account at booksamillion.com and go to the My Account page.
- Scroll down to Account/Membership Settings and click Manage Club Card Renewal Settings.
- In the Auto-Renewal drop-down menu, select No.
- Click Save Changes.
- Look for the confirmation email Books-A-Million sends once the setting is updated.
This does not end the membership early or refund anything. It only means you are not billed for the next renewal.
Cancel completely through Customer Support
Use this to end the membership and its benefits, or to ask for a renewal charged in the last 30 days to be refunded.
- Open a request with Books-A-Million Customer Support from its Help Center, or use its chat during its posted weekday hours.
- Give your membership card number or the phone number listed on the account.
- Say whether you want the membership cancelled completely and, if the renewal was charged within the past 30 days, ask for it to be refunded.
- Keep the confirmation email Books-A-Million sends once the account is updated.
Cancel at a Books-A-Million location
A membership bought at the register is handled at a Books-A-Million location, and a refund for it can only be given there.
- Go to your local Books-A-Million and ask an associate at the Customer Service desk to cancel your membership.
- Present your Millionaire's Club card.
- If you bought it within the last 30 days and want a refund, bring the receipt, the membership card and the reward card you were given.
- Keep the receipt for the cancellation or refund.
What happens next?
- With auto-renewal off, your discount and other benefits continue until the expiration date. Books-A-Million says you are not billed for renewal unless you choose to renew yourself.
- Membership fees are not refundable, except that Books-A-Million refunds the fee if you cancel within the first 30 days of a term, new or renewal, and did not use the membership for a discount or benefit.
- You can turn renewal back on later. Books-A-Million says you can re-activate at a later date.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I see a charge of about $25 from Birmingham, AL
Books-A-Million says a charge of $25 or close to it from Birmingham, AL could be a Millionaire's Club renewal. The renewal is billed about a month before the membership expires, so it can arrive before you expect it. If you have not used the membership since, ask Customer Support for a refund within 30 days.
I cannot find Manage Club Card Renewal Settings
The membership is probably not linked to your online account. In My Account, select Membership and apply your Club Card Number, then the renewal settings appear under Account/Membership Settings. Or ask Customer Support to turn off auto-renewal for you.
Customer Support will not refund my in-store membership
That matches Books-A-Million's policy: Customer Service is not able to refund a store transaction. Take the receipt, membership card and reward card to a Books-A-Million location within 30 days of purchase.
I turned off auto-renewal and still have the membership
That is expected. Turning off auto-renewal keeps the benefits until the expiration date. To end it now, contact Customer Support and ask for the membership to be cancelled completely.
