In this guide
Before you start.
- Find the receipt before you look for a cancel button. A receipt from Apple or Google means that store controls the subscription and Discord cannot stop it for you.
- Check which Nitro you hold. Nitro and Nitro Basic are different subscriptions at different prices, and a monthly plan and a yearly plan renew on very different dates.
- Look at what you paid. Nitro bought inside the iPhone or Android app costs more than the same plan bought on the web, because the store's cut is added. If you plan to resubscribe, doing it on the website is cheaper.
- Deal with your Server Boosts separately. Boosts are billed on their own and do not stop when Nitro does, so a Nitro cancellation can leave boost charges running.
- Note that the two free boosts included with Nitro are part of the subscription. Servers you applied them to lose that boost level when the subscription ends.
- Gifted or prepaid Nitro does not auto-renew, so there is usually nothing to cancel: it runs out on its own.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Discord Nitro, step by step.
Cancel Nitro billed by Discord
The route for anyone who subscribed on the website or in the desktop app, which is also the cheapest place to buy it. Works from a browser on any device.
- Open Discord in a browser or the desktop app and sign in to the account that has Nitro.
- Open User Settings using the gear icon near your name.
- Find the Nitro or Subscriptions section in the settings menu.
- Select your Nitro subscription and choose the option to cancel it.
- Work through the confirmation prompts, then check the page shows an end date rather than a renewal date.
If this page shows the subscription as managed through Apple or Google, that store is billing you and the cancellation has to happen there instead.
Cancel Nitro billed by Apple
Nitro bought inside the iPhone or iPad app is an Apple subscription, so Apple takes the payment and Apple holds the cancellation.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Discord from the list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. You may need to scroll down to find the button.
If there is no cancel button, or an expiration date appears in red text, the subscription is already cancelled and will not renew.
Cancel Nitro billed by Google Play
Nitro bought inside the Android app is billed by Google Play, and cancelling inside Discord will not stop it.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Discord.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
What happens next?
- Nitro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, then the perks stop.
- You lose the Nitro perks: larger uploads, custom emoji use across servers, the higher streaming quality and the profile customisation.
- The two Server Boosts included with Nitro are withdrawn, so servers you boosted with them can drop a boost level. Boosts you bought separately are billed separately and continue until you cancel those too.
- Custom emoji and stickers you added to your own servers remain on those servers. What you lose is the ability to use them everywhere else.
- Your account, messages, servers and friends are unaffected. Cancelling Nitro is not closing the account.
- A profile you customised with Nitro-only features reverts to the standard options, though the account keeps the underlying settings if you subscribe again.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
There is no cancel option in Discord's settings
That means a store bills you. Nitro bought in the mobile app belongs to Apple or Google Play, and Discord shows it without letting you cancel it. Check the receipt to see who charged you, then cancel in that store's subscription settings.
Discord is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions
You are either signed in to a different store account than the one that paid, or you bought Nitro on the web, where Discord bills you directly. Check the receipt email for which account was charged, and if it comes from Discord, cancel in User Settings in a browser.
I cancelled Nitro but I am still being charged
Server Boosts are the usual answer. Boosts are a separate recurring purchase from Nitro and keep billing after Nitro ends, so check your subscriptions page for boost entries and cancel those individually. A second Nitro subscription on another account or store is the other common cause.
The price I was charged is higher than Discord's website says
Nitro bought inside the iPhone or Android app costs more than the same plan on the web, because the store's commission is included. That is the charge working as intended rather than an error. Cancelling in the store and resubscribing on the website is what lowers it.
My server lost its boost level after I cancelled
Nitro includes two Server Boosts that belong to the subscription rather than to the server. When Nitro ends those boosts are withdrawn, and a server relying on them falls to a lower tier until someone else boosts it.

GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel Discord Nitro?
Cancel it where it is billed. On the web or desktop, open User Settings, find the Nitro or Subscriptions section and cancel there. On iPhone, use Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Discord. On Android, use the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions.
Does cancelling Nitro stop my Server Boosts?
No. Boosts you purchased are a separate recurring charge and keep renewing after Nitro ends. Cancel them individually from your subscriptions page, or the billing continues.
Do I keep Nitro until the end of the month I paid for?
Yes. Cancelling stops the renewal rather than cutting access immediately, so the perks continue to the end of the period you already paid for.
Why is Nitro more expensive on my phone?
Apple and Google add their commission to purchases made inside their apps, so the in-app price is higher than the price on Discord's website for the same plan.
What happens to custom emoji I uploaded?
Emoji and stickers you added to a server you own stay on that server. Nitro is what lets you use custom emoji across other servers, so that ability ends with the subscription.
Do I need to cancel gifted Nitro?
No. Gifted and prepaid Nitro does not renew automatically, so it expires at the end of its term with nothing to cancel.
