AI TOOLSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel HeyGen subscription.

On desktop, click your profile picture in the bottom-left of the home screen, open Settings, choose Plan & Billing, click the arrow next to Manage Billing and select Cancel Plan. HeyGen states the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, so you keep full access until then. Two things decide whether this costs you: unused credits expire when the account drops to the Free plan, and pausing instead of cancelling expires your credit balance entirely and then resumes billing automatically after 30 days.

Before you start.

  • Do not pause if you mean to leave. HeyGen states that pausing postpones the next charge by 30 days and then reactivates the plan automatically, and that pausing expires your credit balance entirely, with unused credits permanently lost and not restored when the subscription resumes.
  • Spend your credits before the cycle ends. HeyGen states that unused credits normally roll over for one additional billing cycle for monthly subscribers and accumulate to the annual renewal date for annual subscribers, but that if you cancel a paid plan and move to Free they do not roll over at all.
  • On a Business plan, extra seats do not buy extra credits. HeyGen states that purchasing additional seats does not increase your credits and that the credit pool is shared between all members of the space, so the credits still expire together when the plan ends.
  • On an annual plan, expect no money back for the unused part. HeyGen states that access continues through the remainder of the paid year and that unused months are not prorated or automatically refunded.
  • If you only want to drop an add-on, contact support instead. HeyGen states that cancelling on your own cancels the whole subscription including the plan, and that support has to remove an add-on on its own.
  • If you are on a legacy Unlimited plan, cancelling is permanent. HeyGen states that legacy Unlimited plans were decommissioned after 15 May 2026 and that cancelling or switching to a credit-based plan cannot be undone.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel HeyGen, step by step.

Cancel on the HeyGen website

This is the route HeyGen documents, and the only one that also offers pausing and downgrading. Use it unless a store took the payment.

  1. Click your name initial or profile picture in the bottom-left corner of the home screen, then click Settings.
  2. Find Plan & Billing in the left-side menu and click it.
  3. In the Plan section, click the down arrow next to the Manage Billing button.
  4. Select Cancel Plan. Pause Plan sits in the same menu and does something different, so read the note below before choosing it.
  5. Complete the short feedback prompts and click Continue Canceling to confirm.

HeyGen states that the subscription only cancels at the end of the current billing cycle, so you can keep creating videos until then. Pause Plan is not a slower cancellation: HeyGen states it postpones the next charge by one billing cycle, then bills you again automatically, and expires your unused credits in the meantime.

Cancel a Google Play subscription

If you subscribed inside the HeyGen Android app, Google Play bills you and the cancellation happens there. The Plan & Billing page on the website does not control a Play-billed plan.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select HeyGen.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.

HeyGen states that deleting or uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription, and that pausing is desktop-only and not supported through the mobile stores.

Downgrade instead of cancelling

If the plan is too big rather than unwanted, HeyGen points at downgrading as the cheaper move that keeps premium features.

  1. Open Settings, then Plan & Billing, the same place the cancel option lives.
  2. Choose a smaller plan rather than Cancel Plan.
  3. Check the effective date: HeyGen states that standard downgrades take effect automatically at the end of the current billing cycle.
  4. Note what the smaller plan includes, since the credit allowance and the avatar slots both change with the tier.

Check for separate API billing

A HeyGen developer account consumes API credits against its own balance. If an integration is still running, closing the editor plan does not stop what the API is spending.

  1. Sign in to the HeyGen account that owns the API keys.
  2. Open Settings, then API, where the API token lives, and check the pay-as-you-go balance.
  3. Revoke or rotate any API token still in use by a script or a third-party tool, since the integration is what spends the credits.
  4. Confirm with support which of your charges is the plan and which is API usage if the invoices do not make it obvious.
  5. Do not cancel a legacy API plan casually: HeyGen states those plans are deprecated and cannot be restored once cancelled.

HeyGen states that its API runs on a pay-as-you-go model that is standalone from the regular HeyGen plans, and that you can buy API credits without holding a Creator, Pro or Business plan. Cancelling the video plan therefore leaves an API balance and any running integration exactly as they were.

What happens next?

  • Access runs to the end of the cycle. HeyGen states the account stays fully active until then, and on an annual plan through the remainder of the paid year.
  • Your videos stay. HeyGen states that previously rendered videos remain saved and accessible under Projects after the account moves to the Free plan.
  • Avatars are limited rather than deleted. HeyGen states that avatar slots drop to the Free plan limit of 1 slot and that extra avatars become locked and unavailable until you resubscribe.
  • Unused credits expire. HeyGen states they do not roll over or remain on the account once the plan is fully cancelled.
  • Cancelling is not deletion. HeyGen states that cancelling only stops payments and moves the account to a Free plan, and that permanent deletion is a separate action under Settings, then Account, then Delete Account.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I thought I cancelled, but invoices keep arriving

HeyGen names this exact case: if the account shows as Free or paused and payment notifications continue, you most likely paused the plan rather than cancelling it, and a paused account resumes automatically after 30 days. Open Plan & Billing and check which state the plan is in, then cancel it properly or contact HeyGen support.

My credits vanished before I expected

Pausing is the usual cause. HeyGen states that the credit balance expires entirely at the moment the pause takes effect, that unused credits are permanently lost, and that they are not added back when the subscription resumes. The same expiry applies when a cancelled plan drops to the Free tier at the end of the cycle.

I cancelled but I want a refund for the months I will not use

HeyGen states that cancelling stops future recurring charges but does not automatically refund past ones, and that it does not automatically provide prorated refunds for the remaining time in the billing cycle. Its refund policy states that payments are generally non-refundable except where required by law, that HeyGen and Google Play purchases may be refunded within 15 days and Apple App Store purchases within 14 days, and that a refund may not be granted if a significant amount of credits has already been created.

I cancelled a legacy Unlimited plan and cannot get it back

That is the documented behaviour, not a fault. HeyGen states that legacy Unlimited plans are no longer sold past 15 May 2026, that you keep one only while the subscription remains active, and that cancelling or switching to a credit-based plan is permanent. Resubscribing means choosing a current credit-based plan.

I deleted the app and the charges continued

HeyGen states plainly that deleting or uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. If Google Play took the payment, the cancellation has to happen in Play under Payments & subscriptions, and no action inside the HeyGen website will stop it.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my HeyGen subscription?

On desktop: profile picture in the bottom-left, Settings, Plan & Billing, the arrow next to Manage Billing, then Cancel Plan, then the feedback prompts and Continue Canceling. If Google Play billed you, cancel in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions instead.

What happens to my videos and avatars if I cancel?

HeyGen states that you do not lose your content. Rendered videos remain saved under Projects, and avatar slots drop to the Free plan limit of 1, with extra avatars locked rather than deleted until you resubscribe.

Do unused HeyGen credits carry over after I cancel?

No. HeyGen states that when a cancelled plan downgrades to the Free tier at the end of the billing cycle, remaining unused credits expire and do not roll over.

Should I pause instead of cancelling?

Only for a short break you actually intend to end. HeyGen states that pausing postpones the next charge by about 30 days, switches the account to the Free plan in the meantime, expires the credit balance entirely, and then reactivates and bills automatically. For an open-ended break, HeyGen itself recommends cancelling.

Does cancelling delete my HeyGen account?

No. HeyGen states that cancelling only stops payments and moves you to the Free plan. Deleting the account and its data is a separate action under Settings, then Account, then Delete Account.
