AI TOOLSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Grok subscription.

Cancel it wherever you bought it. On the web, sign in at grok.com and open Settings, then Billing, to change plan or cancel. If you subscribed on an iPhone, Apple handles the transaction and you cancel in iOS Subscriptions; on Android you cancel in Google Play. Before you start, check which product the charge belongs to: SuperGrok from xAI, X Premium from X, and xAI API credits are three separate billing relationships, and cancelling one does not touch the others.

Before you start.

  • Identify the product on the receipt first. xAI states that SuperGrok is managed at grok.com, while X Premium is billed by X rather than xAI, and that X is responsible for processing an X Premium refund where required by law.
  • API credits are not part of a subscription. xAI states plainly that API credits are non-refundable, and a developer account at the API console keeps its own balance and its own payment method.
  • If an invoice looks far larger than a monthly plan, check the subscription history before disputing it. xAI states that large unexpected invoices are often a SuperGrok Heavy yearly subscription rather than API usage.
  • A subscription is tied to the login that bought it. xAI states that a plan bought on the web may not appear in the app if you are signed in with a different login, and that this is a common mix-up rather than a double charge.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Grok, step by step.

Cancel SuperGrok on the web

This is the route xAI documents for a subscription bought on grok.com. It opens the billing portal where the plan, the payment method and the cancellation all live.

  1. Sign in at grok.com with the account that holds the subscription.
  2. Open Settings, then Billing, to manage the subscription bought from the Grok website.
  3. Use the billing portal to change the plan, update the payment method or cancel.
  4. Work through to a confirmation and keep it. Check the Billing page afterwards for an end date on the current plan.

xAI states that if the Manage Subscription button does not open, an ad blocker or another extension is the usual cause: try an incognito window or a different browser. If it still will not complete, xAI states that support can escalate the cancellation to the billing team.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad

xAI states that Apple handles the transaction for an App Store purchase, so the cancellation happens in iOS Settings rather than inside Grok.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name (your Apple Account) at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select Grok from the list of active subscriptions.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

xAI states that Apple handles all refunds for App Store purchases, so an Apple-billed charge is not something xAI can return.

Cancel on Android

A Play Store purchase is cancelled in Google Play. xAI splits this one: Google stops the billing, but xAI handles the refund.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Grok.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts to confirm.

For a Play purchase, xAI states that refunds are handled by xAI through its refund request form rather than by Google.

Stop xAI API charges

A developer account on the xAI API console is a separate relationship from a Grok plan, with its own balance. Cancelling SuperGrok leaves it untouched.

  1. Sign in to the xAI API console with the account that owns the developer organisation.
  2. Open the billing section and check the payment method and any automatic credit top-up.
  3. Remove or disable the stored payment method and any auto-recharge so no further credit is bought.
  4. Revoke API keys that are still in use, since a running integration is what generates the usage in the first place.

xAI states that API credits are non-refundable, so an unused balance is not money you get back by closing the account.

What happens next?

  • Cancelling stops the renewal. The plan you already paid for is not shortened, so paid features usually stay available until the period ends.
  • The weekly usage allowance goes with the plan. xAI describes a shared weekly usage pool that resets on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings, and Extra Usage Credits bought on top of it are priced at standard rates rather than the plan's effective rate.
  • Your conversations stay on the Grok account rather than on the plan. Cancelling changes what you can generate, not whether you can sign in.
  • A refund is a separate request from a cancellation. xAI states that for a web or Google Play purchase it reviews the request and issues an approved refund to the original payment method, typically within 5 to 10 business days.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

The Manage Subscription button does nothing

xAI names this specifically: ad blockers and other extensions can block the billing portal from opening. Try an incognito window or a different browser first. If the portal still will not load, xAI states that support can escalate the cancellation to the billing team, so contact support rather than assuming the plan cannot be cancelled.

I subscribed on the web but the app says I am on the free plan

xAI states that a subscription is tied to the account that bought it, so it will not appear if you are signed in with a different login. Check whether you used an Apple, Google or X sign-in on one device and an email address on the other, and sign in the same way everywhere before concluding you have paid twice.

A large invoice arrived that does not look like a monthly plan

xAI states that large unexpected invoices are often a SuperGrok Heavy yearly subscription rather than API usage. Check the purchase date and your subscription history before disputing the charge, and contact support with the invoice number so they can confirm what it was for.

I cancelled Grok but X is still charging me

Those are two companies. X Premium includes Grok access but is billed by X, and xAI states that X rather than xAI is responsible for an X Premium refund. Cancelling SuperGrok does not end X Premium, and ending X Premium does not end SuperGrok. Cancel the one the receipt names.

I lost access to the email I signed up with

xAI directs sign-in email changes to accounts.x.ai, where you can add or update the address, and states that a subscription bought through Apple is tied to the Apple ID, so that email is managed through Apple. If an attacker changed the address, xAI states that support can cancel the subscription on a compromised account.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel SuperGrok?

Cancel it where you bought it. On the web, sign in at grok.com, open Settings, then Billing, and cancel from the billing portal. On iPhone, use Settings, your Apple Account name, Subscriptions, Grok, Cancel Subscription. On Android, cancel in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions.

Is X Premium the same subscription as SuperGrok?

No. X Premium is sold by X and SuperGrok by xAI, and each is cancelled with the company that billed you. xAI states that X, not xAI, handles X Premium refunds where required by law.

Can I get a refund for a Grok subscription?

It depends who took the payment. xAI states that it handles refunds for web and Google Play purchases through its refund request form, and that Apple handles all refunds for App Store purchases. Approved xAI refunds typically reach the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days.

Does cancelling stop my xAI API bill?

No. The API console is a separate account with its own balance and payment method, and xAI states that API credits are non-refundable. Remove the payment method, turn off any automatic top-up and revoke the keys that are still calling the API.

What happens to my usage limits after I cancel?

The included weekly usage pool belongs to the paid plan, so it ends with it. xAI describes the pool as resetting weekly on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings, with Extra Usage Credits available at standard rates on top.
