MUSIC & AUDIOSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Everand (Scribd) subscription.

Everand is the subscription formerly called Scribd, and old Scribd subscriptions still appear under that name in store listings. On the website, click your profile icon in the upper right corner, select Your account, and in the Subscription section select Cancel next to Cancel subscription. Everand states you keep full access until your current billing period ends, with one exception worth knowing before you click: on a free trial, access ends the moment you cancel. If you are pausing rather than leaving, Everand lets website subscribers pause for up to 12 weeks and keep their unlocked books and unused unlocks.

Before you start.

  • Do not cancel a free trial early expecting to use the rest of it. Everand states that free trials are the exception to keeping access: access ends the moment you cancel. On a paid subscription the opposite is true, you keep full access until the current billing period ends.
  • Check your unused unlocks first. Everand states that unlocks you do not use remain available in your account for up to 6 months from the date they were issued, and that unlocked books stay accessible as long as your subscription is active. Ending the subscription ends that access.
  • Consider pausing instead, but only if the website bills you. Everand states pausing is only available if you signed up on the Everand website, and that if you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play the pause option will not appear in your account settings.
  • Check who bills you before you start. Everand documents three separate routes, its own website, the App Store and Google Play, and only the one that took your money will stop the charge.
  • If you are cancelling because of a charge rather than the service, look at the refund rules before cancelling. Everand considers refunds for charges within the last 30 days in specific situations, and one of them is unused subscription time.
  • Older subscriptions may still be labelled Scribd. Everand's own instructions tell you to find your Everand or Scribd subscription in the store list, so do not assume the wrong name means the wrong subscription.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Everand (Scribd), step by step.

Cancel on the Everand website

This is the route for a subscription bought on everand.com or scribd.com, and the only one where pausing is offered as an alternative.

  1. Sign in to your account on the Everand website.
  2. Click your profile icon in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Your account.
  4. In the Subscription section, select Cancel next to Cancel subscription.
  5. Complete the confirmation, then check the Subscription section shows no upcoming renewal.

Everand states you keep full access until your current billing period ends. On a free trial it is the reverse: access ends the moment you cancel, so there is no benefit to cancelling a trial early beyond making sure you do not forget.

Pause instead of cancelling

Pausing keeps what cancelling takes away. Everand states it stops your billing and leaves your unlocked books, your unused unlocks and your place in whatever book you are reading as they are.

  1. Sign in to your account on the Everand website.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Your account.
  4. In the Subscription section, select Pause subscription.
  5. Choose how long to pause, up to 12 weeks.

Everand states you can unpause at any time without waiting for the full period, and that when the pause ends you pick up where you left off. Pausing is not available to App Store or Google Play subscribers: Everand states the option will not appear in their account settings.

Cancel an Everand subscription billed by Apple

A subscription started in the app on an iPhone or iPad is an Apple purchase, and Everand cannot end it from its side.

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Find your Everand or Scribd subscription in the list.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Everand's own instructions say to look for an Everand or Scribd subscription, because older subscriptions still carry the Scribd name. Apple refunds Apple charges: Everand states Apple handles refunds for subscriptions purchased through the App Store.

Cancel an Everand subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription started in the Android app is billed by Google Play, and the same naming caveat applies.

  1. Open the Google Play app with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
  2. Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Find your Everand or Scribd subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.

Everand states that Google processes refunds for subscriptions purchased through Google Play, so a refund request goes there rather than to Everand.

What happens next?

  • Everand states you keep full access until the current billing period ends on a paid subscription. A free trial is different: access ends the moment you cancel.
  • Unlocked books stay accessible while the subscription is active, so ending it ends that access. Everand states that if you resubscribe with the same email, the books you previously unlocked will be accessible again.
  • Unused unlocks are not a permanent asset either. Everand states they remain available in your account for up to 6 months from the date they were issued, which is a limit that runs whether or not you are subscribed.
  • Cancelling the subscription is not the same as deleting the account, which Everand documents separately. The login remains, which is what makes a later resubscription find your unlocked titles.
  • A charge from Apple or Google after you cancelled on the website means the store subscription was never the one you ended. Check both.

Cancelling a Everand (Scribd) free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

Pausing or freezing Everand (Scribd).

Can I pause Everand instead of cancelling?

If you signed up on the website, yes, for up to 12 weeks. Everand states pausing stops your billing and leaves your unlocked books, unused unlocks and reading position as they are, and that you can unpause at any time. App Store and Google Play subscribers do not get the option.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled my trial and lost access straight away

That is documented rather than a fault. Everand states free trials are the exception to keeping access until the period ends, and that access ends the moment you cancel a trial. There is no way to cancel a trial and keep the remaining days, so the only thing timing buys you is not forgetting before the charge.

There is no Pause option in my account

Pausing is limited by who bills you. Everand states pausing is only available if you signed up on the Everand website, and that the option will not appear for App Store or Google Play subscribers. If you want the pause, the store subscription has to be cancelled and a website subscription started, which is a real decision rather than a formality.

My subscription says Scribd, not Everand

Same subscription. Everand is the renamed service, and Everand's own cancellation instructions tell you to look for your Everand or Scribd subscription in the Apple or Google list. Cancel whichever name appears, and check there is only one: Everand publishes separate guidance on managing duplicate App Store subscriptions, which suggests holding two at once is common enough to document.

I was charged after cancelling on the website

The likely cause is two subscriptions rather than one failed cancellation. If you ever subscribed in the app as well as on the site, the store subscription is separate and the website cancellation does not touch it. Check Settings, Subscriptions on your iPhone or the Google Play subscriptions list. If the charge really is from Everand and the account shows no subscription, Everand considers refunds for charges within the last 30 days where it charged you by mistake.

My unlocks disappeared

Two published rules explain most cases. Everand states unused unlocks remain available for up to 6 months from the date they were issued, so an old one expires on its own. And unlocked books stay accessible only while the subscription is active, so a lapsed subscription closes them. Resubscribing with the same email address restores access to books you previously unlocked.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my Everand subscription?

On the website, click your profile icon in the upper right corner, select Your account, and in the Subscription section select Cancel next to Cancel subscription. If Apple or Google Play bills you, cancel in that store's subscription list instead.

Is Everand the same as Scribd?

Everand is the renamed subscription service, and older subscriptions still appear under the Scribd name. Everand's own cancellation instructions tell you to find your Everand or Scribd subscription in the store list, because both labels are in circulation.

Do I keep my unlocked books after cancelling?

No. Everand states unlocked books stay accessible as long as your subscription is active. If you resubscribe with the same email address, the books you previously unlocked become accessible again.
