HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Fitbit Premium subscription.

Fitbit Premium is now documented by Google as Google Health Premium, which is why the subscription may not appear under the name you expect. Cancel it where you bought it. On Android, Google documents opening the Google Health app, tapping your profile picture, then Google Health Settings, then Google Health Premium, then Cancel membership, which hands you to Google Play to confirm. If you bought it on the web, Google documents the Google Store route: Profile, then Subscriptions, then Google Health Premium, then Payment Detail, then Cancel Subscription. Google also notes purchases through PayPal or third-party stores are cancelled where they were made, and that cancelling stops the auto-renew rather than ending access immediately.

Before you start.

  • Expect the new name. Google's own help pages call this Google Health Premium, and the app is listed as Google Health (Fitbit). If you are scanning a subscription list for the word Fitbit, you may walk straight past it.
  • Work out who charged you. Google names several channels: the Google Health app on Android, which bills through Google Play, the Google Store on the web, PayPal, and third-party stores. Cancelling in the wrong one does nothing.
  • If a device came with a trial, check it separately. Google says a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch may indicate that it includes a trial to Google Health Premium, and a trial that converts is a charge you have to cancel like any other.
  • Check whether your Premium arrived through Google One. Google says the subscription can come through Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra tiers, in which case the thing to manage is that Google One membership rather than a separate Health subscription.
  • Note what cancelling does and does not do. Google says cancelling the free trial or subscription stops the auto-renew, and that access continues until it expires.
  • Uninstalling does nothing. Google states that uninstalling the app will not cancel your subscription.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Fitbit Premium, step by step.

Cancel in the Google Health app on Android

This is the route Google documents for subscriptions started on an Android device, where Google Play holds the billing. The app hands you to Play to complete it.

  1. Open the Google Health app on your Android device.
  2. Tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Google Health Settings.
  4. Tap Google Health Premium.
  5. Tap Cancel membership, then confirm through the Google Play Store screen it opens.

The confirmation happens in Google Play rather than in the app. Closing the app before that Play screen is confirmed leaves the subscription running.

Cancel on the Google Store

Use this if you bought the subscription on the web rather than in the app. Google documents the Store as a separate channel with its own path.

  1. Go to the Google Store and sign in with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
  2. Open your Profile, then Subscriptions.
  3. Select Google Health Premium.
  4. Open Payment Detail.
  5. Select Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Google notes you need to sign in with the same Google Account you used to purchase the subscription. A different account will not show it.

Cancel an Apple-billed subscription

If you subscribed inside the app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple holds the billing and neither the Google Health app nor the Google Store can stop the charge.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the Google Health or Fitbit subscription in the list.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Look for both names. The listing is Google Health (Fitbit), so the entry may not read as Fitbit Premium.

Cancel a PayPal or third-party purchase

Google names PayPal and other stores as separate channels. These are the cases where the subscription does not appear in any Google or Apple list at all.

  1. Check the receipt email to see which company took the payment.
  2. If PayPal handles it, cancel the recurring payment from your PayPal account.
  3. If another store sold it, cancel it in that store's own subscription area.
  4. Confirm the cancellation shows in that channel before the next renewal date.
  5. Keep the confirmation.

A subscription bought through a third party will not appear in the Google Health app, which is why people conclude wrongly that it was already cancelled.

What happens next?

  • Google says cancelling the free trial or subscription stops the auto-renew, and access continues until it expires. You keep Premium features until the end of the billing period.
  • The tracker keeps working. A Fitbit device continues recording steps, heart rate and sleep into the free app, and what Premium adds is the deeper analysis layered on top of that.
  • Google states that after Google Health Premium expires, the data in the Google Health Coach is still retained, and that you can manually delete the data.
  • Google notes that it does not give refunds for most Google Play purchases, so cancelling generally stops the next charge rather than returning the last one.
  • Cancelling the subscription does not delete your Fitbit or Google Health account, your device pairing or your history.

How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?

Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cannot find Fitbit Premium in my subscriptions

Look for Google Health Premium instead. Google's help pages now document the subscription under that name and the app is listed as Google Health (Fitbit), so a list scanned for the word Fitbit can look empty when the subscription is right there. If it is genuinely absent from Google Play, check the Google Store, your Apple subscriptions, and PayPal, since Google names all of these as possible billing channels.

I cancelled in the app but was charged again

The Android route only finishes in Google Play. Google's steps end with confirming through the Play Store screen that Cancel membership opens, so leaving before that screen is confirmed leaves the subscription active. Open Google Play, find the subscription and check whether it says it expires on a date or renews on one. Renews means it is still live.

A trial that came with my device converted to a paid plan

Google says a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch may indicate that it includes a trial to Google Health Premium. A trial is a subscription with a delayed first charge, so it renews unless it is cancelled in whichever channel it was activated through. Cancelling stops the auto-renew and Google says access continues until it expires, so you do not lose the remainder of the trial by cancelling early.

I deleted the app and it kept billing

Google states plainly that uninstalling the app will not cancel your subscription. The subscription belongs to the store account that bought it, not to the app on your phone. Reinstall it if you need to, or go straight to Google Play, the Google Store, Apple or PayPal and cancel there.

My Premium came through Google One and there is nothing to cancel

Google says Google Health Premium can be activated through Google One memberships, specifically the Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra tiers. In that case Premium is a benefit of that membership rather than a separate subscription, so there is no Health subscription to cancel. Manage the Google One membership instead, and expect Premium to end when that membership does.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel Fitbit Premium?

Cancel it in the channel that billed you. On Android, Google documents opening the Google Health app, your profile picture, Google Health Settings, Google Health Premium, then Cancel membership, confirming in Google Play. On the web, use the Google Store under Profile, Subscriptions, Google Health Premium, Payment Detail, Cancel Subscription.

Why is it called Google Health Premium now?

Google's help documentation covers the subscription under the Google Health Premium name and lists the app as Google Health (Fitbit). It is the same subscription people search for as Fitbit Premium, which is why it can be hard to find in a subscription list.

Does my Fitbit still work without Premium?

Yes. The device keeps tracking and syncing into the free app. Premium adds the deeper analysis and coaching content on top, so cancelling reduces what the app shows rather than switching off the tracker.

What happens to my data when Premium ends?

Google states that after Google Health Premium expires, the data in the Google Health Coach is still retained, and that you can manually delete the data yourself. Cancelling does not delete your account or your device history.

Can I get a refund for Fitbit Premium?

Google notes that it does not give refunds for most Google Play purchases. Cancelling stops the auto-renew and leaves access running until it expires, so the usual outcome is no further charges rather than money back.
