HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Headspace subscription.

Headspace says cancellation steps differ depending on where you subscribed, directly through Headspace, the Apple App Store, or Google Play. If you bought it on headspace.com, log in from a desktop or mobile browser rather than the mobile app, go to headspace.com/subscription/manage and click or tap the CANCEL MEMBERSHIP link, and if the button is not there Headspace asks you to email help@headspace.com. If Apple or Google billed you, cancel in that store's subscription list. Headspace states that subscriptions purchased directly through Headspace.com are non-refundable, and that purchases made through the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play are final and non-refundable under those stores' policies.

Before you start.

  • Work out which channel charged you. Headspace says cancellation steps can differ depending on where you subscribed and points to its own instructions for checking your subscription details if you are not sure.
  • If you bought directly, use a browser rather than the app. Headspace specifies logging in from a desktop or mobile browser, not the mobile app, for the direct cancellation route.
  • Expect no refund. Headspace says subscriptions purchased directly through Headspace.com are non-refundable, though it adds that if you believe there are special circumstances you can reach out to help@headspace.com so the team can review your case individually.
  • Check whether you have a coaching subscription as well. Headspace documents its Mental Health Coaching subscription separately, with its own cancellation route, so cancelling one may leave the other running.
  • If a company or organisation gave you Headspace, there may be nothing to cancel. Headspace says that if you have been provided a free subscription from an organization you do not need to cancel it, as it will automatically expire based on the date of the agreement.
  • Cancel ahead of the renewal date rather than on it, since cancelling stops the subscription auto-renewing at the end of the current billing cycle.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Headspace, step by step.

Cancel a subscription bought from Headspace

This is the route for subscriptions purchased on headspace.com. Headspace is explicit that this has to be done in a browser rather than in the mobile app.

  1. Log in to your account from a desktop or mobile browser at headspace.com, not the mobile app.
  2. Go to headspace.com/subscription/manage.
  3. Click or tap the CANCEL MEMBERSHIP link.
  4. Follow the prompts through to a confirmation.
  5. If the button is not there, Headspace asks you to email help@headspace.com.

Headspace naming the missing-button case itself is a signal: if CANCEL MEMBERSHIP does not appear, email rather than assuming you cancelled.

Cancel an Apple-billed Headspace subscription

Apple holds the billing for subscriptions bought through the App Store, so Headspace's own pages cannot stop the charge.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap on your name.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the Headspace subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription to disable it from auto-renewing at the end of the current billing cycle.

Headspace states that purchases through the Apple iTunes Store or its iPhone application are final and non-refundable, and subject to Apple's payment policy.

Cancel a Google Play-billed Headspace subscription

Use this if you subscribed through Google Play on an Android device.

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the menu and then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to cancel.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions to confirm.

Headspace states that purchases through the Google Play store are final and non-refundable, and subject to Google's payment policy.

Cancel a Headspace coaching subscription

Headspace documents its Coaching subscription separately from the main membership, with its own end date rule. Cancelling one does not cancel the other.

  1. On desktop, visit your Profile and the Subscription Details section and follow the steps provided to cancel.
  2. In the Headspace mobile app, tap the Profile tab, select the Settings gear icon, then Account & Subscription.
  3. Open the Subscription Details section and select Edit.
  4. Follow the steps to select your cancellation preferences and complete the cancellation.
  5. Check the Coaching subscription end date shown on your Account and Subscription page.

Headspace says you keep access to your remaining coaching sessions until the Coaching subscription end date, which is 30 days after your most recent Coaching subscription payment.

What happens next?

  • Cancelling disables auto-renewal at the end of the current billing cycle rather than cutting access off immediately.
  • Headspace says subscriptions purchased directly through Headspace.com are non-refundable, and that Apple and Google purchases are final and non-refundable under those stores' policies.
  • For coaching, Headspace says you retain access to your full Coaching subscription offering until the Coaching subscription end date listed on your Account and Subscription page, which is 30 days after your most recent coaching payment.
  • Your account, progress and streaks are not deleted by cancelling. The subscription ends, the account does not.
  • A subscription provided by an employer or organisation expires on its own. Headspace says you do not need to cancel one of those.

Cancelling a Headspace free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?

Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no CANCEL MEMBERSHIP link on the manage page

Headspace anticipates this and gives an instruction for it: if the button is not there, email help@headspace.com. In practice the link is usually missing because a store holds the billing rather than Headspace, so check first whether your receipt came from Apple or Google, in which case the cancellation belongs in that store's subscription list. If the receipt came from Headspace and the link is still absent, email them rather than leaving it.

I cannot find the cancel option in the Headspace app

For a subscription bought from Headspace directly, the documented route is a browser, not the app. Headspace says to log in from a desktop or mobile browser rather than the mobile app and go to headspace.com/subscription/manage. If Apple or Google bills you, the app cannot cancel it either: the control lives in the store.

I cancelled Headspace but my coaching is still billing

They are separate subscriptions with separate cancellation routes. Headspace documents Mental Health Coaching cancellation on its own page, through your Profile and Subscription Details on desktop, or the Profile tab, Settings gear, then Account & Subscription in the app. Cancelling the main membership leaves coaching running, so check for both on your Account and Subscription page.

I asked for a refund and was refused

That matches Headspace's stated policy. It says subscriptions purchased directly through Headspace.com are non-refundable, and that Apple and Google purchases are final and non-refundable. Headspace does add that if you believe there are special circumstances surrounding your purchase you can reach out to help@headspace.com so the team can review your case individually, which is a request rather than an entitlement.

My employer gave me Headspace and I want it stopped

There is usually nothing to cancel. Headspace says that if you have been provided a free subscription from an organization, you do not need to cancel it and it will automatically expire based on the date of the agreement. If you are also being charged personally, that is a second subscription of your own, which you would cancel through whichever channel bills it.
