Before you start.
- Check where you bought it first. Gaia directs people to its My Subscriptions page at gaiagps.com/user/subscriptions to see which channel the membership came from, and the cancellation has to happen there.
- Know the difference between cancelling auto-renewal and cancelling immediately. Gaia says cancelling auto-renewal keeps your access through the remainder of the payment period, while an immediate cancellation means you do not have access for the remainder of that period.
- Trials convert automatically. Gaia says a free trial subscription via Google Play or the Apple store will auto-convert into an annually renewing paid subscription, and that you must cancel before the auto-conversion date or you will be charged.
- If a refund is the goal, note the window and the channel. Gaia says that if you purchased via gaiagps.com you may be entitled to a full refund within fourteen days of purchase or renewal, and that beyond that a Gaia GPS subscription is typically non-refundable.
- Apple purchases are outside Gaia's control for immediate action. Gaia says it does not have the ability to provide immediate cancellations or refunds for any purchases made via the Apple App Store, and that you have to contact Apple support directly.
- Do not delete your account as a way of cancelling. Gaia states that deleting your account will not cancel any existing subscriptions, that it is not a necessary step in cancelling, and that it deletes all your data irreversibly.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel a gaiagps.com membership
This is the route for memberships bought directly from Gaia, and the same page tells you whether that is what you have.
- Go to gaiagps.com/user/subscriptions and sign in.
- Check which channel your membership was purchased through, shown on that page.
- If it is a gaiagps.com membership, click the Cancel button on the subscriptions page.
- Follow the prompts through to a confirmation.
- Note the date your access runs to, which should be the end of the current payment period.
If the page shows the membership came from Apple or Google, there will be no Cancel button here: it has to be stopped in that store.
Cancel an Apple-billed Gaia GPS membership
Apple holds the billing for App Store purchases, and Gaia says it cannot provide immediate cancellations or refunds for those.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Gaia GPS.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
Gaia says that for an immediate cancellation following an Apple purchase or renewal you have to contact the Apple support team directly.
Cancel a Google Play-billed Gaia GPS membership
Use this if the My Subscriptions page shows the membership came from Google Play.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Gaia GPS.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the confirmation steps.
Gaia says that for an immediate cancellation on a Google Play or gaiagps.com membership you should contact its own support team.
What happens next?
- Gaia says cancelling your subscription stops it from auto-renewing and that you will still have access to your membership through the remainder of the payment period.
- An immediate cancellation behaves differently. Gaia says that if you choose to cancel immediately you will not have access through the remainder of the payment period, and the membership is cancelled immediately.
- Your account and its data are untouched by cancelling. Deleting the account is a separate and irreversible action that Gaia says removes all of your data on gaiagps.com and in the app.
- Offline maps and the premium map layers stop with the membership, so download what you need for a trip before the term ends.
- If you were on Premium with Outside+ and want a standalone Premium membership, Gaia advises waiting until your current membership runs out before purchasing the standalone one.

I deleted my account and I am still being charged
Gaia states this explicitly: deleting your account will not cancel any existing subscriptions, and deleting your account is not a necessary step in cancelling a subscription. Worse, it says deleting the account deletes all of your data on gaiagps.com and in the app and is irreversible. The subscription belongs to the store or billing channel that sold it, so cancel it there, whether that is gaiagps.com, Apple or Google Play.
There is no Cancel button on my subscriptions page
That means a store holds the billing rather than Gaia. The My Subscriptions page at gaiagps.com/user/subscriptions shows where you originally purchased, and Gaia directs Apple and Google purchases to those stores' own cancellation steps. The Cancel button only appears for memberships bought on gaiagps.com.
My free trial converted into an annual subscription
Gaia warns about this specifically: a free trial subscription via Google Play or the Apple store will auto-convert into an annually renewing paid subscription, and you must cancel before the auto-conversion date or you will be charged. Once charged, whether anything can be recovered depends on the channel. Gaia says gaiagps.com purchases may be eligible for a full refund within fourteen days of purchase or renewal, while Apple handles its own.
I cancelled and lost access straight away
You probably requested an immediate cancellation rather than simply stopping the renewal. Gaia distinguishes the two: cancelling auto-renewal keeps access through the remainder of the payment period, while an immediate cancellation means you will not have access for that remainder. Immediate cancellation is the option to choose only when a refund matters more than the remaining time.
I have two memberships running at once
Gaia names this as a known outcome when switching between Premium with Outside+ and standalone Premium: depending on when your membership renewed or is set to renew, you may have two memberships running at the same time. It advises cancelling the auto-renewal of the current membership first and waiting for it to run out before purchasing the standalone one. Check gaiagps.com/user/subscriptions to see everything active on the account.

Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. Add the trial deadline to Subex and set a reminder so you can review it in time.
How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. Keep the trial-end date in Subex and set a reminder before the first payment is due.
