Before you start.
- Check your region. City Fitness's Freeze or Cancel page has separate instructions for Philadelphia and for New Jersey, with different notice rules and freeze fees.
- Philadelphia: count 30 days ahead. City Fitness says it requires 30 days' notice, so you are responsible for payments that occur within 30 days of your request.
- New Jersey: count bi-weekly payments. City Fitness says cancellation requires two bi-weekly payments in the first half of your membership term and one in the second half.
- Check for a term membership. City Fitness says term memberships carry an early termination fee, $100 in the first half of the term and $50 in the second half, except for certain relocations, club closure, disability or death.
- Pay any balance. City Fitness says all fees and outstanding dues must be paid for the cancellation to take effect, and cancellation fees must be paid before your final usage date.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel City Fitness, step by step.
Cancel online
City Fitness lists cancelling online as one of the three methods it accepts. Its Freeze or Cancel page has separate steps for Philadelphia and New Jersey members.
- Open City Fitness's Freeze or Cancel page and select your region.
- Philadelphia: open the City Fitness webstore, click sign in, then Log in with password. Click your name at the top right, click Memberships, select your membership, click Cancel, choose your reason and click Proceed to cancel. Any buyout fee is shown on screen.
- New Jersey: in the Freeze or Cancel request form, choose Cancel my membership, say whether you are cancelling your Gym Membership, your CF Thrive Membership or both, choose the date you want the cancellation to take effect, give a reason and submit.
- Keep the confirmation email. City Fitness says it emails a confirmation once an online cancellation has been reviewed, and to contact it immediately if none arrives within 72 hours.
In New Jersey, City Fitness says the request goes directly to its billing team, which confirms your final billing and usage dates.
Cancel in the app
City Fitness lists the app as a way to cancel, and describes the in-app steps for Philadelphia members.
- Open the City Fitness app and tap My Account.
- Tap My Memberships, then tap the three dots next to the membership you want to manage.
- Choose the cancel option that appears at the bottom of the screen and complete the steps.
- Watch for the email confirmation, and contact City Fitness if none arrives within 72 hours.
Cancel at your club
City Fitness's member guide lists cancelling in person at a City Fitness location as one of the three methods it accepts.
- Go to a City Fitness location and ask to cancel your membership.
- Ask for the date your notice period ends and your final billing and usage dates.
- Ask for written confirmation before you leave.
Cancel by mail
City Fitness's member guide also accepts a letter stating that you wish to cancel, sent by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the City Fitness location where you started your membership.
- Write a letter stating that you wish to cancel, with your name and membership details.
- Send it by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the City Fitness location where you started your membership.
- Keep the receipt, the return receipt and a copy of the letter.
City Fitness says no cancellations are accepted by telephone or email.
What happens next?
- Payments inside your notice period still go out: 30 days in Philadelphia, and one or two bi-weekly payments in New Jersey depending on where you are in your term.
- If you have a term membership, City Fitness says it renews automatically as a monthly membership at the end of the term unless you submit a cancellation request at least 30 days before the term ends.
- If you return later, City Fitness says you may be subject to enrollment fees and new membership rates.
- A frozen membership is unfrozen in order to process a cancellation, according to City Fitness.
Pausing or freezing City Fitness.
Can I freeze my City Fitness membership instead of cancelling?
Yes. City Fitness says you can freeze for up to 3 months, 6 bi-weekly payments, per calendar year for a bi-weekly fee that differs between Philadelphia and New Jersey. Freeze requests need 14 days' notice before your bill date, and freezes must begin and end on a bill date. You cannot use the clubs while frozen.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I filled in the Stay and Save offer and my membership did not cancel
City Fitness's retention offer form asks you to confirm that it is not a cancellation request, and its terms say that if you still want to cancel after the offer period you must submit a formal cancellation request. Go back to the Freeze or Cancel page and use the cancel route for your region.
I emailed or called to cancel and I am still being charged
City Fitness says no cancellations are accepted by telephone or email. Cancel in person, online or through the app, or by certified mail to the location where you started your membership.
I cancelled online but never got a confirmation
City Fitness says you receive an email confirmation once an online cancellation request has been reviewed, and asks you to contact it immediately if no email arrives within 72 hours.
I was charged an early termination fee
City Fitness says term memberships cancelled in the first half of the term carry a $100 early termination fee and those cancelled in the second half carry $50. It does not apply to cancellations due to certain relocations, club closure, disability or death. Check your membership contract for the details.
My term membership turned into a monthly membership
City Fitness says term memberships automatically renew as monthly memberships at the end of the term unless you submit a cancellation request at least 30 days before the term ends. Cancel now using one of the routes above, and expect the usual notice period.
