HEALTH & FITNESSSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Navionics Boating subscription.

Navionics Boating chart subscriptions are bought as in-app purchases, so for an iPhone or iPad the auto-renewal is held by Apple and cancelled in your device settings: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select the Navionics Boating subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If you bought a chart subscription elsewhere, through Garmin or a Navionics account rather than in the app, the renewal is managed in that account instead, so check your receipt to see who charged you. Cancelling stops the renewal rather than removing the charts you have already paid for: a chart subscription normally keeps working to the end of its term, and what lapses afterwards is the right to updates.

Before you start.

  • Check your receipt to see who took the payment. The Navionics Boating app offers in-app purchases through Apple, but chart subscriptions can also be bought through Garmin or a Navionics account, and the cancellation follows the channel.
  • Understand what a chart subscription buys. It is normally the right to chart updates for a period rather than the charts themselves, so cancelling stops future updates rather than deleting what you already have.
  • Note the renewal date. These subscriptions commonly run annually, so the charge can arrive a long time after you last went out on the water.
  • Check which Apple Account paid, since a subscription bought on a different account will not appear in your current subscriptions list.
  • Download or sync anything you want before the term ends, so your device holds the most recent chart data you have paid for.
  • If a chartplotter or another Garmin device is involved, treat that as separate from the app subscription: the device and the app can hold different chart entitlements.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Navionics Boating, step by step.

Cancel an Apple-billed Navionics Boating subscription

This is the route for a subscription bought inside the app on an iPhone or iPad, where Apple holds the billing.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Select the Navionics Boating subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

If no cancel option appears and only a resubscribe option does, the subscription is already set to expire. Read the date on the screen.

Cancel a subscription bought through Garmin or Navionics

Use this if your receipt came from Garmin or Navionics rather than Apple, which happens when the chart subscription was bought on the web or alongside a device.

  1. Sign in to the Garmin or Navionics account that holds the subscription.
  2. Open the account area covering your subscriptions, products or chart entitlements.
  3. Find the Boating or chart subscription and look for the auto-renewal setting.
  4. Turn off auto-renewal or cancel the subscription and follow it through to a confirmation.
  5. Note the date your chart updates run to and keep the confirmation.

If you cannot find the setting, contact Garmin support with the order number from your receipt and ask specifically for auto-renewal to be turned off.

Ask Garmin support to stop the renewal

Use this when the charge does not match any subscription you can find, or when the account route offers no visible control.

  1. Find the receipt or the charge line on your statement and note the date, amount and merchant name.
  2. Contact Garmin support about the Navionics Boating subscription.
  3. Give the order details and state plainly that you want the auto-renewal stopped.
  4. Ask for the effective date and for written confirmation.
  5. Watch your statement through the next renewal date.

An Apple-billed subscription cannot be cancelled by Garmin. If the receipt came from Apple, the control is in your iPhone settings.

What happens next?

  • Cancelling stops the renewal. The subscription normally runs to the end of the term you have already paid for rather than ending immediately.
  • Chart updates are what lapse. A chart subscription buys updates for a period, so after it ends you generally keep using what you have downloaded without receiving newer data.
  • Your routes, markers and tracks belong to the app and your account rather than to the subscription, so cancelling does not clear them.
  • The app itself remains installed and usable. What changes is the currency of the chart data and access to subscription features.
  • A separate entitlement on a chartplotter or another Garmin device is unaffected by cancelling the app subscription.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

The subscription is not in my Apple subscriptions list

Check the receipt before concluding it is cancelled. Navionics Boating sells in-app purchases through Apple, but chart subscriptions are also sold through Garmin and Navionics accounts, and those never appear in an Apple list. If the receipt came from Garmin, manage it in that account. If it came from Apple, you may be signed in with a different Apple Account from the one that paid.

An annual charge appeared months after I last used the app

Chart subscriptions commonly renew annually, so the charge arrives on the anniversary of the purchase rather than on a monthly cycle you would notice. Not using the app has no effect on the renewal. Find the renewal date on the subscription and cancel well before the next one, since access normally continues to the end of the paid term anyway.

I cancelled and I am worried my charts will disappear

Cancelling an auto-renewal stops future billing and future updates rather than revoking what you have. A chart subscription is normally the right to receive updates for a period, so the charts already downloaded to your device generally stay usable. If currency matters for navigation, sync before the term ends so you are holding the latest data you paid for.

I deleted the app and kept being billed

Deleting an app never cancels a subscription. If Apple bills you, the subscription sits in your Apple Account and has to be cancelled in Settings under your name and Subscriptions. If Garmin or Navionics bills you, it sits in that account. You do not need the app installed to cancel it in either case.

I have charts on a chartplotter as well and do not know which one I am paying for

Treat them as separate entitlements, because a device chart subscription and an app subscription are bought and renewed independently. Compare the merchant name and amount on the charge against each purchase you remember. If it is still unclear, take the charge details to Garmin support and ask which product the subscription belongs to before cancelling anything.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my Navionics Boating subscription?

If you bought it in the app on an iPhone or iPad, cancel it in Settings under your name and Subscriptions. If you bought it through Garmin or a Navionics account, turn off auto-renewal in that account or contact Garmin support.

Do I lose my charts when I cancel?

Cancelling stops the renewal and future chart updates rather than removing charts already downloaded. Sync before the term ends so your device holds the most recent data you have paid for.

Why did I get charged a year later?

Chart subscriptions commonly renew annually from the purchase date, so the charge arrives on that anniversary regardless of whether you have used the app.

Does cancelling affect charts on my Garmin chartplotter?

No. A device chart entitlement is separate from an app subscription, so cancelling one does not change the other.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. Add the trial deadline to Subex and set a reminder so you can review it in time.
