- Note the exact deadline, which differs by where you bought. Pimsleur states that a subscription purchased on Pimsleur.com must be cancelled no later than 11:59pm Eastern Time on the last day of the current billing period or free trial period. For Apple and Google purchases it states your billing relationship is with those providers and that you may be charged if you do not cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date.
- On a free trial, do not cancel early. Pimsleur states that if you participate in a free trial offer and cancel during your trial period, you will lose access immediately upon cancellation. Unlike a paid subscription, there is nothing to gain from cancelling on day two rather than day six.
- Expect no refund for unused time. Pimsleur states it is unable to provide a refund of subscription charges, that refunds will not be issued for any part of an unused term, and that a cancellation mid-term takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- A purchased course is not a subscription, and it does have a guarantee. Pimsleur states that once you purchase a digital product it is unable to provide a refund except as set forth in its 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee, which is separate from the subscription rules. If what you bought was a course rather than a plan, that is the policy that applies.
- Consider pausing instead of cancelling. Pimsleur states that pausing lets you take a break of one or two months, that you keep access until your next billing date, that you are not charged during the pause and access is suspended, and that billing and access resume afterwards. It states pause is available for subscriptions started after June 20, 2024.
- Deleting the app does nothing. Pimsleur states plainly that deleting the app from your device will not cancel your subscription.
- If you hold more than one language subscription, cancelling one leaves the others. Pimsleur states that each Premium or Audio-Only subscription is good for one language and that if you are paying for more than one you can save by cancelling the single language subscriptions and resubscribing to All Access.

Cancel a Pimsleur subscription bought on Pimsleur.com
This is the route for a subscription bought directly from Pimsleur, which it states is how consumers in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK subscribe. Pimsleur documents a phone line alongside the account page.
- Log in to your account at store.pimsleur.com/account/subscription.
- Open the Subscriptions tab in your Account Center, where Pimsleur states the next billing date and next billing amount are displayed for any active subscription.
- Select the subscription and cancel it there.
- Complete the cancellation before 11:59pm Eastern Time on the last day of your current billing period, which Pimsleur names as the deadline.
- If you would rather not do it online, Pimsleur states you can contact it at (800) 831-5497 during normal business hours.
Pimsleur states that if you cancel in the middle of a subscription term, the cancellation goes into effect at the end of the then-current billing period, that you can continue to access your lessons until then, and that it cannot issue refunds for any part of an unused term. A free trial is the exception: cancelling during a trial ends access immediately.
Cancel a Pimsleur subscription billed by Apple
Pimsleur states that subscriptions are available in countries outside its direct markets through Apple and Google Play via in-app purchases, so an Apple subscription is common for many learners.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
- Select the Pimsleur subscription to view and cancel it.
- On a Mac, open the App Store app, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, click View Information, scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage, then click Edit next to the subscription name.
- Confirm the cancellation.
Pimsleur states that if you subscribed through an Apple in-app purchase your billing relationship is with Apple and subject to Apple's policies on cancellation timing, and that you may be charged if you do not cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. The 11:59pm Eastern rule applies to Pimsleur.com purchases rather than to this route.
Cancel a Pimsleur subscription billed by Google Play
A subscription bought as an in-app purchase in the Pimsleur Android app belongs to Google Play, and Pimsleur directs those subscribers there.
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone or tablet and make sure you are signed in to the correct Google Account.
- Open Menu, then Subscriptions.
- Select the Pimsleur subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.
Pimsleur states you can also manage and cancel the subscription through the Google Play website, and that as with Apple you may be charged if you do not cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date.
Pause a Pimsleur subscription instead
Pimsleur offers a pause as an alternative to cancelling, which suits a temporary break better since no refund exists for unused time.
- Using a web or mobile browser, go to the Subscriptions tab on your Account Center page.
- Click Select Subscription.
- Select One Month or Two Months.
- Select the Pause Subscription button.
- To come back early, return to the Subscriptions tab and select Resume Subscription, then confirm.
Pimsleur states the pause takes effect at the start of your next billing term, that you can keep using Pimsleur until the pause begins, and that you will not be billed for its duration. It states pause is available for subscriptions started after June 20, 2024. Resuming early charges you immediately and updates your billing date.
What happens next?
- Pimsleur states that a cancellation in the middle of a paid term takes effect at the end of the then-current billing period and that you can continue to access your lessons until then.
- A trial is the opposite. Pimsleur states that if you cancel during a free trial you lose access immediately upon cancellation.
- Pimsleur states it cannot issue refunds or exchanges for unused portions of a subscription term, so there is nothing to reclaim by cancelling early on a paid plan.
- Your account and your achievements survive. Pimsleur states that it will save your account, your learning progress, and even any badges and certificates you have earned should you decide to come back.
- Restarting is documented as a two-click action. Pimsleur states you log in with the same email address or social sign in, go to the Subscriptions tab and select Restart Subscription, which resubscribes you to the same plan using the previous payment method if it is still valid.

I cancelled on the renewal day and was charged anyway
The deadline is precise and it is a clock time, not a date. Pimsleur states that a subscription purchased on Pimsleur.com must be cancelled no later than 11:59pm Eastern Time on the last day of your current billing period. If you are in a different time zone, that moment can fall earlier in your own day than you expect. For an Apple or Google subscription the rule is different again: Pimsleur states you may be charged if you do not cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date.
I cancelled my free trial and lost access straight away
That is Pimsleur's documented behaviour rather than a bug. It states that if you participate in a free trial offer and cancel during your trial period, you will lose access immediately upon cancellation. This is the reverse of how a paid subscription behaves, where access runs to the end of the period. The practical consequence is to use the trial for its full length and cancel near the end, before the 11:59pm Eastern deadline on the last day.
I deleted the app and thought that ended it
Pimsleur states in capitals on its trial guidance and again in its cancellation guidance that simply deleting the app from your device will not cancel your Pimsleur subscription. The subscription sits with Pimsleur, Apple or Google depending on where you bought it, and keeps renewing. Removing the app only removes your own access to the lessons you are still paying for.
Pimsleur will not refund the months I did not use
It does not offer that. Pimsleur states it is unable to provide a refund of subscription charges, that refunds will not be issued for any part of an unused term, and that it cannot issue refunds or exchanges for unused portions of a subscription term. It advises cancelling before the trial ends or before the next billing date instead. My price went up without warning
Pimsleur names two causes. The first is an introductory offer expiring: it states that where a discounted introductory price applies, it indicates at the time of purchase both that price and the price that will apply to renewals afterwards. The second is a general increase: Pimsleur states that for subscribers who purchased through Pimsleur.com it will attempt to notify you in advance by email so you can choose whether to accept the increase at renewal or cancel, and that for Apple and Google subscribers price changes are communicated in accordance with that store's policies.
