LEARNINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Simply Piano subscription.

The trap here catches a lot of people: Simply Piano states that subscriptions purchased via Apple Pay are processed through its payment partner Stripe, not directly through the Apple App Store, which means the subscription will not appear in your iPhone's Apple Subscriptions list even though you paid with Apple Pay. Those are cancelled in the app under Menu, Settings, My Account, then Manage. A genuine App Store purchase is cancelled in Settings, Subscriptions. A Google Play purchase is cancelled in the Play Store. A card or PayPal purchase is cancelled in the app. Simply Piano states that payments made by credit or debit card or PayPal, and payments made through Google Play, are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, while Apple's usual refund window is 30 to 60 days from the original charge. Cancelling does not stop your access immediately: it runs to the end of the current billing period.

Before you start.

  • Check the Apple Pay case before anything else, because it explains most failed cancellations. Simply Piano states that subscriptions purchased via Apple Pay are processed through Stripe rather than the Apple App Store, and that your subscription will not appear in your iPhone's Apple Subscriptions list even though you paid with Apple Pay. Not finding it in Apple's list is therefore not proof that you have no subscription.
  • If you want a refund rather than just a cancellation, note that asking for one ends your access early. Simply Piano states that requesting a refund will also cancel your subscription, which means you will lose Premium access once the refund is granted. Cancelling alone keeps access to the end of the period.
  • The refund windows are published and worth counting against. Simply Piano states that payments made by credit or debit card or PayPal are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, that payments made through the Google Play Store are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, and that Apple's usual refund window is 30 to 60 days from the date of the original charge.
  • Cancelling a free trial follows the same steps but has its own timing. Simply Piano states that the cancellation steps also work to cancel your free trial and avoid being charged, as long as you cancel the trial at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
  • Deleting the app does not help. Simply Piano states that uninstalling or deleting the app does not automatically cancel your subscription and that you need to follow the cancellation steps first.
  • This is a family purchase, so the adult who paid is the one who can cancel. If a parent or partner set up the subscription, the cancellation has to happen from their store account, their PayPal account or their login in the app.
  • Your progress is kept regardless. Simply Piano states that your progress will be saved on your account so you can pick up right where you left off if you come back.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Simply Piano, step by step.

Cancel a card, PayPal or Apple Pay subscription in the app

This covers direct purchases, including the Apple Pay case that does not appear in Apple's subscription list. Simply Piano states the Manage button opens a secure page hosted on billing.stripe.com, which is expected.

  1. Open Simply Piano and tap Menu, then Settings, then My Account.
  2. Tap Manage. On Android this may read Manage Subscription instead.
  3. On iOS, this opens a secure webpage hosted on billing.stripe.com. Tap Cancel Subscription to stop the renewal after the current period ends.
  4. On Android, tap Cancel Renewal, then tap Yes, Cancel to confirm.
  5. Check that the account no longer shows a renewal.

Simply Piano states that cancelling here ends your Premium access at the end of the current billing period rather than immediately. For a refund on a card or PayPal purchase it asks you to reach its team through the app by tapping Menu, Settings, Have a Question?, and states these payments are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

Cancel a Simply Piano subscription billed by Apple

This is the route only when the subscription genuinely appears in your Apple Subscriptions list. If it is not there, the Apple Pay and Stripe case above is the likely explanation.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your name.
  3. Tap Subscriptions and choose Simply Piano.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Simply Piano states that Apple does not allow app companies to manage subscriptions or process refunds on their behalf, and directs refund requests to reportaproblem.apple.com. It states Apple typically reviews requests within 24 to 48 hours and that Apple's usual refund window is 30 to 60 days from the date of the original charge.

Cancel a Simply Piano subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription bought in the Android app through Google Play is cancelled in the Play Store, and Google's refund flow is well defined.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Tap the profile icon at the top right and make sure you are signed in to the correct Google Account.
  3. Tap Account, then Payments & Subscriptions.
  4. Select Simply Piano.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.

Simply Piano states that payments made through the Google Play Store are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, and documents Google's refund workflow: confirm the account, select the Simply Piano purchase, choose a reason, describe it and request the refund.

Cancel a Simply Piano subscription through PayPal

Simply Piano documents a PayPal route separately, which matters because the merchant name is not what you might search for.

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top right corner to view your account.
  3. Click Payments.
  4. Click Automatic Payments.
  5. Select the JoyTunes merchant, which may appear as Simply by JoyTunes, and click Cancel.
  6. Follow the instructions to cancel the subscription.

The merchant name is the detail worth knowing: Simply Piano states the entry appears as JoyTunes or Simply by JoyTunes rather than Simply Piano, which is why people scan the list and conclude there is nothing there.

What happens next?

  • Simply Piano states that cancelling your subscription does not stop it immediately, that your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period, and that you continue to enjoy full access until that date.
  • Simply Piano states that after that date the subscription ends and you will not be charged again.
  • A refund behaves differently from a cancellation. Simply Piano states that requesting a refund will also cancel your subscription and that you will lose Premium access once the refund is granted, so it costs you the rest of the paid period.
  • Your learning is kept. Simply Piano states that your progress will be saved on your account so you can pick up right where you left off if you decide to come back.
  • Simply Piano states that refunds typically appear in your account within 5 to 10 business days, and that on a credit card reversal the original charge may simply disappear from your statement as if the transaction never occurred.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

Simply Piano is not in my Apple Subscriptions list but I am still being charged

This is the most common Simply Piano problem and it has a documented cause. Simply Piano states that subscriptions purchased via Apple Pay are processed through its payment partner Stripe, not directly through the Apple App Store, so the subscription will not appear in your iPhone's Apple Subscriptions list even though you paid with Apple Pay. The cancellation is in the app instead: Menu, Settings, My Account, then Manage, which opens a page on billing.stripe.com where you tap Cancel Subscription. For a refund on that kind of purchase, Simply Piano asks you to contact its support team directly.

I deleted the app and the charges kept coming

Simply Piano states this at the top of its cancellation article: uninstalling or deleting the app does not automatically cancel your subscription, and you need to follow the cancellation steps first. The subscription lives with Apple, Google, Stripe or PayPal depending on how you paid, and none of those notice that the app is gone. Reinstalling may be necessary if your cancellation route runs through the app, which is the case for card, PayPal and Apple Pay purchases.

I cannot find Simply Piano in my PayPal payments

Look for the wrong name. Simply Piano states that in PayPal's Automatic Payments list you should select the JoyTunes merchant, which may appear as Simply by JoyTunes. JoyTunes is the company behind the app, so searching for Simply Piano finds nothing while the entry is sitting there under a different label.

I asked for a refund and lost access before the period ended

That is the documented consequence. Simply Piano warns that requesting a refund will also cancel your subscription, which means you will lose Premium access once the refund is granted. A plain cancellation keeps access to the end of the current billing period. If you are near the end of a paid period, cancelling rather than refunding preserves the remaining access, and if you are near the start, the refund is worth more.

My refund has not arrived

Simply Piano states that refunds typically appear within 5 to 10 business days although processing times can vary, and that a delay may be due to third-party approval or banking systems. It also describes an outcome people mistake for a missing refund: on a credit card payment reversal, the original charge may simply disappear from your statement as if the transaction never occurred, rather than appearing as a separate credit. Your bank or card issuer can confirm which happened.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Why is my Simply Piano subscription not in Apple Subscriptions?

Because Apple Pay and the App Store are not the same thing. Simply Piano states that subscriptions purchased via Apple Pay are processed through its payment partner Stripe rather than directly through the Apple App Store, so they do not appear in the Apple Subscriptions list. Those are cancelled in the app under Menu, Settings, My Account, then Manage, which opens a page hosted on billing.stripe.com.

What is Simply Piano's refund window?

It depends who took the money. Simply Piano states that payments made by credit or debit card or PayPal are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, and that payments made through the Google Play Store are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. For App Store purchases it states Apple's usual refund window is 30 to 60 days from the date of the original charge, and that Apple, not Simply Piano, decides those.

When does my Simply Piano access end after cancelling?

Simply Piano states that cancelling does not stop the subscription immediately, that it remains active until the end of your current billing period, and that you continue to have full access until that date. The exception is a refund, which Simply Piano states cancels the subscription and ends Premium access once it is granted.

Will I lose my piano progress if I cancel?

No. Simply Piano states that your progress will be saved on your account so you can pick up right where you left off if you ever decide to come back to learning piano. Cancelling ends the paid access rather than deleting the account or the record of what you have learned.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. Add the trial deadline to Subex and set a reminder so you can review it in time.
