LEARNINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Skillshare subscription.

Cancel from Account settings on skillshare.com, under Membership & Payments, using Cancel membership. If you subscribed through the iOS App Store or Google Play, that store manages the billing and Skillshare states it cannot cancel or refund it for you. The refund rules are unusually specific and worth reading before you act. Skillshare states that for 7-day trials you can contact Support within 48 hours of the charge for a one-time refund, as long as you have not used Skillshare since. It states that charges after a 14-day or longer free trial are not eligible for refunds, and that it does not offer refunds for subscription renewals. Cancelling keeps your access to the end of the billing period, after which Skillshare states you lose access to classes and to downloadable materials shared by teachers.

Before you start.

  • If you were just charged after a free trial, check which trial you had, because it decides whether a refund exists. Skillshare states that for 7-day trials you can contact Support within 48 hours of the charge for a one-time refund, as long as you have not used Skillshare since. It states separately that charges after a 14-day or longer free trial are not eligible for refunds. Using the site after the charge disqualifies you from the 48-hour route, so do not browse classes while you decide.
  • A renewal is not refundable at all. Skillshare states that it does not offer refunds for subscription renewals, and that for annual subscriptions it sends a renewal reminder email approximately 30 days before the renewal date. That email is the practical deadline for avoiding an annual charge you do not want.
  • Download the class materials you want to keep. Skillshare states that once the billing period ends you lose access to Skillshare classes and to downloadable materials shared by teachers. Project files and worksheets attached to classes go with the subscription, so save them while it is active.
  • Your projects are a separate matter from the classes. Skillshare states that during the remaining paid period you can still update your class projects and take part in class discussions, and it publishes a route for downloading your Skillshare data, which is worth doing if your project work matters to you.
  • Check where you subscribed before looking for a cancel button. Skillshare states that if you subscribed through Apple or Google, Skillshare cannot cancel the subscription for you and the cancellation must be completed through that store.
  • Local law may give you a window Skillshare's own policy does not. Skillshare states that in the European Union you may have a 14-day cooling-off period and that a trial period counts toward those 14 days, and that in the United Kingdom you may also have a new 14-day cooling-off period in certain cases when a subscription renews, such as for annual plans.
  • If you paid by SEPA direct debit, the window is much longer. Skillshare states you can request a refund within 8 weeks of the initial payment.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Skillshare, step by step.

Cancel a Skillshare membership on the website

This is the route for a membership bought on skillshare.com. Skillshare documents the same path on a desktop and in a mobile browser.

  1. Go to Account settings on skillshare.com and sign in.
  2. Select Membership & Payments from the left menu. In a mobile browser, tap your profile icon, select Account settings, then tap Membership & Payments.
  3. Click Cancel membership.
  4. Follow the prompts to confirm your cancellation.
  5. Check that the membership now shows it will not renew.

Skillshare states that free trials started on skillshare.com are also cancelled through Account settings, before the trial ends. Cancelling does not immediately remove access: Skillshare states you can continue learning until your billing period ends.

Cancel a Skillshare subscription billed by Apple

Skillshare states that a subscription started through the iOS App Store is managed by Apple and that it is not able to manage or cancel subscriptions purchased through third-party platforms.

  1. Open your device's Settings.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Find your Skillshare subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Skillshare states that deleting the app does not cancel your subscription and that you will continue to be charged until you cancel through your app store. It also states it cannot cancel or refund subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google Play, so refund requests go to Apple.

Cancel a Skillshare subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription started in the Skillshare Android app is a Google Play purchase, and Skillshare states the cancellation must be completed in that store.

  1. Open the Google Play app.
  2. Tap your profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select your Skillshare subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the steps.

Skillshare states that for questions about billing, cancellations or refunds for app store subscriptions you should contact your app store directly, because it is not able to manage those requests.

Cancel a Skillshare for Teams plan

A team plan is governed by an agreement rather than by the consumer policy, so neither the cancellation nor the refund follows the rules above.

  1. Identify your organisation's administrator, who holds the plan.
  2. Contact that administrator, or email teamhelp@skillshare.com, which Skillshare names as the support route for team accounts.
  3. Ask what notice your organisation's agreement requires before the renewal date.
  4. Get the cancellation and its effective date confirmed in writing.

Skillshare states that cancellation terms for Skillshare for Teams accounts depend on your organisation's agreement, and that refunds for team subscriptions are governed by the specific contractual arrangement rather than by its published refund policy.

What happens next?

  • Skillshare states that your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period, and that during that time you can watch classes, update your class projects and take part in class discussions.
  • Once the billing period ends, Skillshare states you lose access to Skillshare classes and to downloadable materials shared by teachers. The teacher-supplied files are the part worth saving in advance.
  • Skillshare states that cancelling your subscription stops future billing but does not automatically issue a refund, so a refund is a separate request with its own deadline.
  • You can come back. Skillshare states that you can rejoin Skillshare anytime to continue learning and creating.
  • Skillshare states that if you have already received a refund on your account, additional refund requests will not be approved, so the 48-hour trial refund is genuinely one-time.

Cancelling a Skillshare free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I was charged when my free trial ended and want it back

Whether that is possible depends entirely on which trial you had, and the window is very short. Skillshare states that for 7-day trials you can contact Support within 48 hours of the charge for a one-time refund, as long as you have not used Skillshare since. For a 14-day or longer free trial, it states charges are not eligible for refunds at all. Two things disqualify the 48-hour route: waiting past 48 hours, and using Skillshare after the charge landed.

My annual plan renewed and Skillshare will not refund it

That matches its published policy: Skillshare states it does not offer refunds for subscription renewals. The mechanism it offers instead is advance warning, stating that for annual subscriptions it sends a renewal reminder email approximately 30 days before the renewal date and that you can cancel anytime before renewal to avoid future charges. If you are in the UK, Skillshare states you may have a new 14-day cooling-off period in certain cases when a subscription renews, such as for annual plans, which is worth raising with Support.

I deleted the app but I am still being billed

Skillshare says this outright: deleting the mobile app does not cancel your subscription, and if you uninstall the app without cancelling you will still be charged. The subscription lives in the Apple or Google account that bought it, or in your Skillshare account settings if you subscribed on the website. Removing the app from the phone touches none of those.

There is no cancel option in my Skillshare account settings

That usually means Skillshare is not the biller. Skillshare states that if you subscribed through the iOS App Store or Google Play, the app store manages your billing and cancellations must be completed through the store where you subscribed. The other case is a team plan: Skillshare states that Skillshare for Teams cancellation terms depend on your organisation's agreement and directs you to your administrator or to teamhelp@skillshare.com, so an individual seat has no self-service cancellation.

I lost the class files and project materials I was working from

That is the documented consequence of the paid period ending. Skillshare states that once your billing period ends you lose access to Skillshare classes and to downloadable materials shared by teachers. Those teacher-supplied resources are not kept outside the subscription, so they need downloading before the end date. Skillshare publishes a separate route for downloading your Skillshare data, which covers your own account information rather than class content.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Can I get a refund from Skillshare?

Only in narrow cases that Skillshare names. It states that for 7-day trials you can contact Support within 48 hours of the charge for a one-time refund if you have not used Skillshare since, that charges after a 14-day or longer trial are not eligible, and that it does not refund subscription renewals. It also states a SEPA direct debit payment can be refunded within 8 weeks of the initial payment, and describes cooling-off rights in the EU and UK.

What happens to my classes and projects when I cancel?

Skillshare states that until the billing period ends you can still watch classes, update your class projects and participate in class discussions. After that, it states you lose access to Skillshare classes and to downloadable materials shared by teachers. Save any teacher-provided files before the end date, and note that Skillshare states you can rejoin anytime.

Does cancelling Skillshare stop my access immediately?

No. Skillshare states that cancelling your subscription does not immediately remove access and that you can continue learning until your billing period ends. Cancelling early in a period does not shorten it and does not produce a refund for the remainder, since Skillshare states cancelling stops future billing but does not automatically issue a refund.

Are Skillshare 1-on-1 Sessions and digital products refundable?

They follow their own rules. Skillshare states that a 1-on-1 Session can be cancelled or rescheduled up to 4 hours before it begins, using the cancel or reschedule link at the bottom of your confirmation email, and that a dispute after a session must be emailed to help@skillshare.com within 48 hours of the scheduled start time. It states that digital products are non-refundable and cannot be returned or cancelled, with review only in extraordinary circumstances such as fraud or clear misrepresentation, requested within 48 hours of purchase.
