In this guide
Before you start.
- Find out who bills you. ABCmouse states that a subscription started through an app store is managed by that store, even when Age of Learning or ABCmouse appears on your statement.
- Check your next billing date first: in the app, Settings, then Manage My Account, then Membership Details. ABCmouse advises cancelling before that date.
- Each subscription is cancelled separately. ABCmouse states that cancelling one does not cancel the Assessment Center, Adventure Academy, or another ABCmouse subscription under a different email address.
- If you log in with ABCmouse Classic credentials and never entered new payment details, the new app shows no billing or cancel options. That subscription is cancelled through Customer Care instead.
- On the free trial, ABCmouse states the subscription continues automatically at $14.99 a month plus tax unless you cancel before the 30 days end.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel ABCmouse, step by step.
Cancel a directly billed ABCmouse subscription
This is for a membership started on ABCmouse.com with a credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay. ABCmouse documents the cancellation inside the app.
- Open the ABCmouse app and log in if needed.
- Tap the avatar or profile icon in the upper-left corner.
- Tap Settings in the lower-left corner. You may be asked for your birth year or password.
- Select Manage My Account.
- On the Membership Details page, select Cancel Membership at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose a reason, then select Continue to Cancel. Skip past Keep Learning and select Continue to Cancel again.
- Select Confirm Cancelation and wait for the confirmation screen.
Monthly direct-billed members are also offered Pause Membership for 1, 2 or 3 months. A pause is not a cancellation: billing resumes automatically on the return date.
Cancel an Apple-billed ABCmouse subscription
ABCmouse states it cannot access or manage an App Store subscription, so the cancellation has to be done with Apple.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap ABCmouse.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If ABCmouse is not listed, search your email for a receipt from Apple and sign in with the Apple Account shown on it.
Cancel a Google Play-billed ABCmouse subscription
ABCmouse states it cannot manage Google Play on your behalf, so the cancellation happens in the Play Store.
- Open the Google Play app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Find and tap your ABCmouse subscription.
- Tap Cancel and follow the prompts.
Use the Google Account that paid. Another account will not show the subscription.
Cancel ABCmouse Classic
ABCmouse states Classic subscriptions can no longer be cancelled inside the product, and that new-app access on Classic credentials is an extension of the Classic account.
- Open ABCmouse and select the Help icon in the lower-right corner to start a Customer Care chat.
- Give the email address on your ABCmouse account.
- Ask the representative to cancel your ABCmouse Classic subscription.
- Follow any further instructions, and do not leave the chat until cancellation is confirmed. Save or email yourself the transcript.
A Classic subscription bought through the Amazon Appstore is cancelled in your Amazon account instead: Your Account, Your Apps, then Your Subscriptions.
What happens next?
- ABCmouse sends a cancellation confirmation to the email address on the subscription. Keep it: ABCmouse treats a missing email as a sign the cancellation may not have completed.
- You keep Premium access for the rest of the period you already paid for. A trial cancelled early keeps Premium until the trial would have ended.
- ABCmouse states all subscription charges are final and non-refundable, with no full or prorated refund for unused time.
- Your child's profiles and completed activities are saved, so you can resubscribe later with the same parent account, or keep using the free Basic version.
- Deleting your data is a separate privacy request. ABCmouse asks you to cancel first and wait for the paid period to end before submitting a deletion form.
Cancelling a ABCmouse free trial.
How do I cancel the ABCmouse free trial?
Log in, go to Settings, select Manage My Account, select the cancel option and confirm. Do it before the 30 days end; ABCmouse states Premium access stays until the trial period ends.
How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?
For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
Pausing or freezing ABCmouse.
Can I pause ABCmouse instead of cancelling?
Yes, if you have a monthly subscription billed directly by ABCmouse. Choose Pause Membership on the Membership Details screen and pick 1, 2 or 3 months. Annual plans, app store subscriptions and add-ons cannot be paused, and billing resumes automatically on the return date.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I cancelled but ABCmouse is still charging me
Search every inbox, including spam, for the cancellation email. If there is none, the cancellation may not have completed: ABCmouse states that leaving the flow before Confirm Cancelation, or leaving a chat before confirmation, keeps the subscription active. If you do have the email, the usual cause is a second subscription: another account under a different email, the Assessment Center, Adventure Academy, or an app store subscription.
The charge went down but did not stop
That points to two subscriptions with one cancelled. ABCmouse gives the example of a bill falling from $119.98 to $79.99 because the Assessment Center was cancelled while the main ABCmouse membership stayed active. Cancel the remaining one as well.
There is no cancel option in the app
Either an app store bills you, in which case cancel in Apple or Google Play subscriptions, or you log in with ABCmouse Classic credentials, in which case billing and cancellation are not available in the new app and Customer Care has to cancel the Classic subscription.
My free trial turned into a $14.99 charge
ABCmouse states the 30-day trial continues automatically at $14.99 a month plus tax unless cancelled before it ends, and that charges are non-refundable. Cancel now to stop the next month. If the trial was through Apple or Google, any refund request goes to that store.
How do I check whether my cancellation worked?
Go to Settings, Manage My Account, and the Membership Details section. An Upcoming Charge means the subscription is still billing. A message such as Your Subscription Is About to Cancel means that subscription is cancelled and access runs to the end of the period.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel How to cancel an app subscription
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel my ABCmouse subscription?
For direct billing: in the ABCmouse app, tap the avatar, then Settings, Manage My Account, and Cancel Membership on the Membership Details page, then follow through to Confirm Cancelation. For Apple or Google billing, cancel in that store. ABCmouse Classic is cancelled through Customer Care.
Does deleting the ABCmouse app or account cancel the subscription?
No. ABCmouse states that deleting or uninstalling the app, deleting the account, stopping use, or removing a payment method does not cancel a subscription. Only the cancellation process does.
Can I get a refund from ABCmouse?
ABCmouse states all subscription charges are final and non-refundable, and that it does not refund unused time after cancelling. A charge made by Apple or Google can only be raised with that store.
Does cancelling ABCmouse also cancel the Assessment Center?
Not necessarily. ABCmouse states each active subscription must be cancelled separately, and lists the Assessment Center and Adventure Academy as common extra subscriptions.
