LEARNINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Elevate subscription.

Elevate sells through three billing channels and the cancellation happens wherever you paid. Elevate states that if you do not see your subscription listed under Apple or Google, it is possible you subscribed via the web through Stripe, which is cancelled inside the app under Me, Settings, Account Status, then Cancel service. Apple and Google subscriptions are cancelled in their own stores. The refund windows differ by channel: Elevate states that refunds can typically be processed if requested within 30 days of the purchase date, that it can submit refund requests for Stripe and Google purchases made within the last 30 days, and that Apple will typically refund purchases if requested within 60 days. Elevate also sells a lifetime option, which has no renewal to cancel.

Before you start.

  • Find out which of the three channels bills you, because Elevate cannot cancel an Apple or Google subscription for you. Elevate states that if you do not see your subscription under Apple or Google, you could have subscribed via the web through Stripe instead. Checking the store subscription lists first is the quickest way to rule them in or out.
  • Check whether you hold a lifetime purchase rather than a subscription. Elevate states that you can choose between a monthly, annual or lifetime option, and a lifetime unlock is a one-off purchase with no renewal to stop. If you are looking for something to cancel and finding nothing, that may be why.
  • If you want a refund as well, note the window for your channel and act before cancelling if the two are linked. Elevate states that refunds are dependent on the policies of each purchase platform and can typically be processed if requested within 30 days of the purchase date. It states it can submit refund requests to Stripe and to Google Play for purchases made within the last 30 days, and that Apple will typically refund purchases if requested within 60 days.
  • Have your payment details ready for a refund request. Elevate asks for the last 4 digits of the card charged or the invoice number from the Stripe receipt for a Stripe purchase, and for your Elevate account email or a Google Play Order ID starting with GPA for a Google purchase.
  • If you are on the free trial, the deadline is earlier than the trial end date. Elevate states that when you start a 7-day trial your account auto-renews into an annual subscription and you will be charged, and that if you do not wish to enter into a subscription you need to turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the 7th day, because both Apple and Google start to withdraw funds 24 hours before a trial renews.
  • There is no pause option. Elevate states that it does not currently offer a way to pause a subscription, so cancelling is the only way to stop the billing.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Elevate, step by step.

Cancel an Elevate subscription billed by Apple

Elevate sells subscriptions as in-app purchases on iOS, so for many subscribers Apple is the biller and Apple's settings hold the cancellation.

  1. Tap the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap your Apple ID, which is your profile photo at the top of the Settings screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Elevate.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription, which Elevate notes appears in red.

For a refund on this channel Elevate cannot act for you. It states you need to contact Apple directly because Apple maintains full control over App Store transactions, directs you to sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com and choose Request a refund, and states Apple will typically refund purchases if requested within 60 days of the purchase date.

Cancel an Elevate subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription bought in the Elevate Android app is a Google Play purchase. The cancellation is in the store, but Elevate can help with the refund here in a way it cannot on Apple.

  1. Open the Play Store app on your device.
  2. Tap the profile icon at the top right of the screen.
  3. Tap Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Elevate.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Elevate states that if you do not see a cancellation option but instead see Canceled in red, your subscription has already been cancelled. On refunds, Elevate states it can submit requests to the Google Play Store for purchases made within the last 30 days if you contact it with your Elevate account email or a Google Play Order ID starting with GPA, and that if a Google refund is not processed within 7 to 10 business days you should contact Google Support.

Cancel an Elevate subscription billed through the web

Elevate also sells subscriptions directly through Stripe. This is the route people miss, because the subscription does not appear in either store's list and the cancellation still happens inside the app.

  1. Open Elevate and tap Me.
  2. Tap Settings, the gear in the top corner.
  3. Tap Account Status.
  4. Tap Cancel service, select the reason for cancelling and tap Continue, then tap Cancel service again.
  5. On the Cancellation instructions screen, tap Manage Subscription, which opens the Billing page.
  6. Tap Cancel plan, then tap Cancel plan once more to confirm.

Elevate states that it can submit refund requests for Stripe purchases made within the last 30 days, and asks you to contact it with the last 4 digits of the card that was charged or the invoice number included in the Stripe receipt emailed to you after the purchase.

What happens next?

  • Cancelling stops the renewal rather than ending access instantly, and Elevate directs anyone wanting money back to a separate refund request with its own window.
  • Elevate states it does not currently offer a way to pause a subscription, so there is no middle option between subscribing and cancelling.
  • A lifetime purchase is unaffected by cancelling a subscription, because Elevate describes lifetime as one of the plan options alongside monthly and annual.
  • Elevate states that the monthly and lifetime options are not visible while you are in a free trial or an active subscription, and that once you cancel and the subscription expires you can then choose between a monthly, annual or lifetime option. So switching to lifetime requires cancelling first.
  • Elevate publishes a route for restoring purchases, which is the fix when a paid subscription does not appear after changing devices rather than a sign the cancellation failed.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

My subscription is not listed under Apple or Google

Then it is almost certainly a web subscription billed through Stripe. Elevate states that if you do not see your subscription listed under Apple or Google, it is possible you subscribed via the web, and gives a separate in-app route for it: Me, Settings, Account Status, Cancel service. That flow ends on a Billing page where you tap Cancel plan twice to confirm. Looking for it in a store subscription list will never find it.

My subscription renewed a day early

Elevate publishes an answer to exactly this and it is expected behaviour. It states that Stripe, Apple and Google start to withdraw the funds for a purchase 24 hours before the trial or subscription renews, and that they outline this policy when you upgrade. It adds that the charge might be a pre-authorization hold, which Apple and Google use to confirm the payment account is active and has funds available. This is also why Elevate asks you to cancel a trial at least 24 hours before the 7th day.

I cancelled but the app still shows a subscription, or shows none at all

On Google, Elevate states that if you do not see a cancellation option but instead see Canceled in red, the subscription has already been cancelled, so the absence of a cancel button is confirmation rather than a problem. If the opposite has happened and your paid access is missing, Elevate publishes separate pages on restoring purchases and on not being able to access a paid subscription, which usually means the purchase is attached to a different Apple ID, Google account or Elevate account than the one you are signed into.

Elevate says it cannot refund my Apple purchase

It cannot, and it explains why: Elevate states that Apple maintains full control over all transactions on the App Store and that it does not have access to your credit card or your Apple ID. The request goes to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, where you choose Request a refund, select the reason and submit the Elevate subscription. Elevate states Apple will typically refund purchases if requested within 60 days of the purchase date, which is a longer window than the roughly 30 days it can act on for Stripe and Google purchases.

I want to switch from annual to monthly rather than cancel outright

That depends on your device and channel. Elevate states that on an iOS device you go to Me, Settings, Account Status, which takes you to your device's Settings app where you can view your subscription options, tap the desired frequency and follow the prompts. It states this option is not yet available on an Android device. Elevate also states that monthly and lifetime options are not visible while you are in a free trial or subscription, and only become selectable once a subscription is cancelled and has expired.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I know who bills my Elevate subscription?

Check the two store lists first. Elevate states that if you do not see your subscription listed under Apple or Google, it is possible you subscribed via the web through Stripe. Each channel has its own cancellation route, and Elevate cannot cancel an Apple or Google subscription on your behalf. The receipt is the other clue, since a Stripe purchase generates an invoice emailed after the purchase.

What is Elevate's refund window?

It depends on who took the money. Elevate states that refunds are dependent on the policies of each purchase platform and can typically be processed if requested within 30 days of the purchase date. It states it can submit refund requests for Stripe purchases and for Google Play purchases made within the last 30 days, and that Apple will typically refund purchases if requested within 60 days of the purchase date, with that request made directly to Apple.

Can I pause Elevate instead of cancelling?

No. Elevate states that it does not currently offer a way to pause a subscription. The alternatives are cancelling, which stops the renewal, or leaving the subscription running. If the cost rather than the app is the issue, Elevate describes monthly, annual and lifetime plan options, though it states these choices only become visible once an existing subscription is cancelled and has expired.

Do I need to cancel an Elevate lifetime purchase?

No. Elevate describes lifetime as one of the plan options alongside monthly and annual, bought once rather than renewed, so there is no auto-renewal behind it. If charges continue after a lifetime purchase, they belong to a separate subscription that is still running, which is worth checking in both store subscription lists and in the app under Account Status.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. Add the trial deadline to Subex and set a reminder so you can review it in time.
