In this guide
Before you start.
- Download your footage before you cancel. Arlo states that all recordings in the Arlo cloud are deleted within 48 hours of the subscription end date, and that if you want to save your recordings you should download them within this period. The clock runs from the end of the paid period, not from the day you cancel.
- Work out which channel charged you. Arlo states that changes or cancellations must be made through the same method, web or app, where you initially subscribed. A subscription bought through the Apple App Store is cancelled in iOS Settings, not on Arlo's website.
- Do not expect Arlo support to do it for you. Arlo states plainly that Arlo Support cannot make changes or cancel your plan for you.
- The cameras are not the subscription. Arlo says its cameras work without a plan and that plans are optional, so cancelling stops the cloud service rather than switching off the hardware.
- If you are on a trial rather than a paid plan, the option is named differently: Arlo documents Cancel Trial for a single camera and Cancel All Trials for more than one.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Arlo Secure, step by step.
Cancel on my.arlo.com
The web route is the one Arlo documents first, and it is the one to use if you subscribed on a computer. Arlo's plan management sits inside the account area rather than under camera settings.
- Log in at my.arlo.com.
- Click Secure, then My Arlo Account.
- Select your plan.
- Click Cancel Plan and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you are cancelling a trial instead, click Change Plan, then select Cancel Trial for a single camera or Cancel All Trials, and confirm the cancellation.
Arlo also documents Modify Plan on the same screen, which changes the plan rather than ending it. Downgrading is not cancelling, and a modified plan still bills.
Cancel in the Arlo Secure app
Use this if you subscribed on your phone through Arlo rather than through a store. The cancel option is nested one level below Modify Plan, which is where people lose it.
- Launch the Arlo Secure app.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Tap the location under Locations and Plans.
- Tap Plan, then tap Modify Plan.
- Select Cancel Plan and follow the on-screen instructions.
Modify Plan is the way in to both changing and cancelling. Tapping it does not cancel anything on its own: look for Cancel Plan on the screen it opens.
Cancel an Apple-billed Arlo Secure plan
Arlo documents this route separately for plans bought with Apple Pay or through the App Store. Apple holds the billing, so Arlo's own account pages cannot stop the charge.
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Locate Arlo Secure.
- Tap Cancel Subscription to cancel.
If Arlo Secure is not in that list, a different Apple Account paid for it, or the plan was not bought through Apple at all. Check the receipt email to see who charged you.
What happens next?
- The plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. Arlo states that your subscription remains active until the end of your billing period, and that you will not be charged again unless you restart it.
- Cloud recordings go. Arlo states that all recordings in the Arlo cloud are deleted within 48 hours of the subscription end date, so anything not downloaded inside that window is not recoverable.
- The cameras keep working. Arlo says you can use its cameras without a subscription and lists live viewing, motion alerts to your phone and two-way audio as features you keep. What you lose is the cloud side: stored video history and the smart detection that distinguishes a person, a vehicle, an animal or a package.
- Local recording is a separate matter from the plan. Arlo says videos can be saved locally to a microSD card with the Arlo Go 2 LTE-Enabled Camera or the Arlo SmartHub, which is storage that does not depend on a subscription.
- Cancelling the plan does not close the Arlo account. Your login, devices and settings stay in place.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
The subscription option is greyed out or there is no cancel button
This is the most common Arlo cancellation complaint in its own community forum, and it usually means you are in the wrong channel. Arlo states that changes or cancellations must be made through the same method, web or app, where you initially subscribed: a plan bought through the App Store cannot be cancelled on my.arlo.com, and the option can appear inert rather than explain itself. Check the receipt email for who billed you, then use that channel. If the web page is unresponsive, try a desktop browser rather than a phone browser, where the manage control is frequently reported as unusable.
I cancelled and my recordings disappeared before I could save them
Arlo deletes cloud recordings within 48 hours of the subscription end date, and the end date is when the paid period runs out rather than when you clicked cancel. If you cancel mid-month, you still have until the period ends plus that window. Once the 48 hours have passed the footage is gone, and there is no documented restore. Download anything you may need, including clips you might want for an insurance claim or a police report, before that point.
Arlo support says it cannot cancel for me
That is Arlo's stated policy, not a brush-off: its help page says Arlo Support cannot make changes or cancel your plan for you. Support can help you find the right screen or the right billing channel, but the final action has to be yours in the account or the store that charged you. If the interface itself is broken, say so and ask support to escalate it as a fault rather than asking them to cancel.
I cancelled but I was charged again
Check three things. First, whether the cancellation actually completed: Arlo asks you to follow on-screen instructions after Cancel Plan, and stopping short of the confirmation leaves the plan running. Second, whether you cancelled in the channel that bills you: cancelling on Arlo's site does nothing to an App Store charge. Third, whether the charge is for the period you already paid for rather than a new one, since Arlo bills ahead of the period it covers.
I only wanted to drop one camera, not the whole plan
Arlo documents Modify Plan for adjusting services and Cancel Plan for ending the subscription, and they are on the same screen. Use Modify Plan to change what the plan covers. For trials Arlo distinguishes Cancel Trial, which ends a single camera's trial, from Cancel All Trials, so cancelling one leaves the others running and still due to convert.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
Do Arlo cameras still work without a subscription?
Yes. Arlo states that its cameras work without a subscription and describes plans as optional. You keep live viewing in the app, motion alerts to your phone and two-way audio. You lose cloud video history and the detection that tells a person from a vehicle, an animal or a package.
What happens to my Arlo recordings when I cancel?
Arlo states that all recordings in the Arlo cloud are deleted within 48 hours of the subscription end date, and advises downloading anything you want to keep within that period. Recordings saved locally to a microSD card through a SmartHub or an Arlo Go 2 camera are not part of the cloud service.
Will Arlo refund the rest of my annual plan?
Do not count on it. Arlo's documented behaviour on cancellation is that the subscription remains active until the end of your billing period and that you are not charged again, which describes running the term out rather than refunding it. If you believe a charge is wrong, raise it with whoever took the payment, Arlo or Apple, and treat the answer as a request that can be declined.
Can I cancel Arlo Secure through Arlo if Apple billed me?
No. Arlo documents the App Store route separately for subscriptions bought with Apple Pay or through the App Store, and Apple controls that billing. Cancel it in Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Arlo Secure, Cancel Subscription.
How do I cancel an Arlo trial before it converts?
Arlo gives trials their own labels on my.arlo.com: click Change Plan, then Cancel Trial for a single camera or Cancel All Trials if more than one is running. Cancelling one camera's trial leaves the rest active.
Does cancelling Arlo Secure delete my account?
No. Cancelling ends the plan and, after the deletion window, the cloud recordings. The Arlo account, the cameras and their settings remain, and you can restart a plan later.
