In this guide
Before you start.
- Use a desktop or laptop computer. Chegg writes its cancel and pause instructions for a computer, not for a phone browser.
- Check who took the payment. A receipt from Apple or Google means that store bills the subscription, and it has to be cancelled in the store's subscription settings.
- Decide whether a pause is enough. Chegg offers Pause instead inside the cancel flow, for up to six months, and pausing is not the same as cancelling.
- Cancel before your renewal date. Chegg states you keep access for the remainder of the current billing period, so cancelling early does not cost you time you already paid for.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Chegg, step by step.
Cancel on the Chegg website
This is the route Chegg documents for a subscription billed by Chegg, and it lives under Orders rather than under your profile settings.
- Sign in to Chegg on a desktop or laptop computer and go to My Account.
- Click Orders.
- Find the subscription you want to cancel on the right and click Cancel Subscription.
- On the page that opens, select the orange Cancel Subscription button at the bottom of the screen to confirm.
- Check that Orders now shows the subscription as cancelled, and keep any confirmation email.
The first Cancel Subscription link only opens the confirmation page. The cancellation is complete only after the orange button at the bottom of that page.
Pause Chegg Study instead of cancelling
Chegg offers a pause from inside the cancel flow, which suits a break between semesters better than cancelling and signing up again.
- On a desktop or laptop computer, go to My Account, then click Orders.
- Choose Cancel subscription on the subscription you want to pause.
- When the option appears, choose Pause instead.
- Choose how long to pause, up to six months.
- Click the Pause subscription button.
A paused subscription is not cancelled. Note the date the pause ends, and cancel from Orders before then if you do not plan to come back.
Cancel an Apple-billed Chegg subscription
The Chegg Study app sells subscriptions through the App Store. If Apple's receipt is the one in your inbox, Apple holds the billing.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the Chegg subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
If Chegg is not listed, search your email for a receipt from Apple and sign in with the Apple Account shown on it. No Apple receipt usually means Chegg billed you directly.
Cancel a Google Play-billed Chegg subscription
The Chegg Study Android app also offers in-app purchases. A Google Play receipt means Google holds the billing.
- Open your subscriptions in Google Play on your Android device.
- Select the Chegg subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions to confirm.
Google states that uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
Ask Chegg support to cancel
If the Orders page will not let you finish, Chegg's Customer Service page offers a chat with its support team.
- Open Chegg's Customer Service page.
- Under Still need help?, choose Chat with Us.
- Ask for the subscription to be cancelled, not paused, and give the email address on the account.
- Ask for written confirmation and keep the chat transcript.
What happens next?
- Chegg states that once you confirm, the subscription is cancelled, you won't be charged again, and you keep access for the remainder of the current billing period.
- Cancelling stops the next charge rather than refunding the current one, which is why access continues to the end of the period.
- Cancelling does not delete your Chegg account. Data deletion is a separate privacy request, listed as Access or Delete My Data at the foot of Chegg's site.
- A subscription billed by Apple or Google is refunded, if at all, by that store under its own rules.
Cancelling a Chegg free trial.
How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?
For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
Pausing or freezing Chegg.
Can I pause Chegg instead of cancelling?
Yes. Start the cancellation from Orders and choose Pause instead, then pick a pause of up to six months and click Pause subscription.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I cannot find Cancel Subscription
Chegg's instructions are written for a desktop or laptop computer, so switch from your phone to a computer and go to My Account, then Orders. The subscription sits on the right of the Orders page. If nothing is listed there, the subscription is probably billed by Apple or Google, or it belongs to another Chegg account.
I cancelled but Chegg charged me again
Check that you reached the orange Cancel Subscription button at the bottom of the second page: the first link only opens that page. Then check Orders on every email address you might have used, and your Apple and Google subscription lists. If the subscription shows as cancelled and a later charge still arrived, raise it through Chat with Us and keep the transcript.
I chose Pause by mistake
Pause instead appears inside the cancel flow, so it is easy to pick it while trying to cancel. A pause stops billing for the length you chose but leaves the subscription in place. Go back to My Account, then Orders, and complete the cancellation.
Chegg is not in my Apple or Google subscriptions
Then the store did not bill you. Look for the receipt: a Chegg receipt means the website route under Orders applies, while an Apple or Google receipt names the account that has to cancel it.
Still not cancelled?Common reasons a subscription will not cancel How to cancel an app subscription
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel my Chegg subscription?
On a computer, go to My Account, click Orders, click Cancel Subscription next to the plan, then select the orange Cancel Subscription button at the bottom of the next page. For an Apple or Google purchase, cancel in that store's subscription settings.
Do I keep Chegg access after cancelling?
Yes. Chegg states you keep access to your subscription for the remainder of your current billing period, and you won't be charged again.
Does deleting the Chegg app cancel my subscription?
No. Removing the app does not stop billing. A Chegg-billed plan is cancelled under Orders, and an Apple or Google plan in that store's subscription settings.
Is deleting my Chegg account the same as cancelling?
No. Cancelling stops the subscription from renewing. Deleting your data is a separate privacy request, so cancel the subscription first and confirm it shows as cancelled.
