In this guide
Before you start.
- Cancel at least a day early. CNN states that to avoid future charges, you should cancel your plan at least 24 hours before your next billing date.
- Start from the device you subscribed on. CNN's own first step is to sign in on the device you used to start your CNN subscription, because that identifies who bills you.
- Do not delete the app instead. CNN states plainly that deleting the CNN app does not cancel your subscription.
- Check which plan you hold. CNN documents a Basic plan, giving unlimited access to CNN articles on web and mobile, and an All Access plan adding live coverage, exclusive videos and original series. They renew at different prices.
- Check whether a store bills you. CNN publishes a dedicated app store billing section covering Apple, Android TV or mobile, Amazon Fire TV, Prime Video Channels and Roku, so a CNN subscription can come from any of those.
- If you are signing in to Apple, use the right account. CNN states you should make sure you are signed in with the same Apple account you used to purchase your subscription.
- Know that downgrading is not immediate. CNN states that if you switch to the Basic plan, the change starts on your next billing date rather than straight away.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel CNN, step by step.
Cancel a CNN subscription billed by CNN
This is the route when CNN charges you directly, and the menu path differs by device, which is why CNN documents three of them.
- Sign in to CNN on the device you used to start the subscription.
- On a phone or tablet, choose Settings, then Manage subscription.
- On a computer, choose your profile, then Settings, then find the Manage or cancel subscription section.
- On a TV, choose the Settings icon, then Subscription.
- Choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.
CNN states the plan automatically renews unless you cancel it, and asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Access normally runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
Cancel a CNN subscription billed by Apple
CNN sells its plans as in-app purchases, and it documents the Apple route in its own help pages.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find your CNN subscription and choose Cancel subscription.
CNN states you should make sure you are signed in with the same Apple account you used to purchase your subscription. If CNN is not listed there and charges continue, a different store or CNN itself is billing you.
Cancel a CNN subscription billed by Google Play
A subscription started in the Android app, or on Android TV, is a Google Play purchase.
- Open the Google Play Store app with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select CNN.
- Tap Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation.
Cancel a subscription from Amazon, Prime Video Channels or Roku
CNN names these alongside Apple and Google in its app store billing section, and they are the ones people most often fail to find.
- For an Amazon Fire TV or Prime Video Channels subscription, open your Amazon account's memberships and subscriptions area and cancel the CNN channel there.
- For a Roku subscription, sign in to your Roku account on the web rather than using the TV app, open your subscriptions and cancel there.
- Use the account that holds the receipt, which may not be the one you normally shop with.
- Check your CNN account afterwards in case a second subscription is also billed directly.
What happens next?
- Access normally continues to the end of the billing period you have already paid for rather than stopping when you cancel.
- CNN states that deleting the CNN app does not cancel your subscription, so removing the app after cancelling is fine but is not the cancellation itself.
- Free CNN content remains available after a subscription ends, so the site does not close to you entirely.
- A downgrade rather than a cancellation takes effect later: CNN states that switching to the Basic plan starts on your next billing date.
- A store-billed subscription keeps running until that store's cancellation takes effect, and refunds on those charges are the store's decision.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I deleted the CNN app and I am still being charged
CNN addresses this directly: deleting the CNN app does not cancel your subscription. The billing sits with CNN or with the store that sold it, not on the device. Sign in on the device you originally subscribed from, or check the subscription lists in the App Store, Google Play, Amazon or Roku.
I cannot find the cancel option anywhere
The path differs by device, which is the usual reason. CNN documents Settings then Manage subscription on a phone or tablet, your profile then Settings then Manage or cancel subscription on a computer, and the Settings icon then Subscription on a TV. If none of those show a subscription, a store is billing you: CNN lists Apple, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Prime Video Channels and Roku as possibilities.
I cancelled but was charged one more time
Check the timing against CNN's stated margin: it asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date, so a cancellation inside that window can land after the renewal has processed. Then confirm you cancelled in the right place, because a CNN-side cancellation does nothing to an Apple, Google, Amazon or Roku subscription.
CNN is not in my Apple subscriptions list
CNN's own advice is to make sure you are signed in with the same Apple account you used to purchase the subscription, which is the common cause: an older Apple Account, or a family member's. If it is genuinely not there, check the other stores CNN names, and check whether CNN bills you directly through your CNN account.
I meant to downgrade, not cancel
CNN treats these as different actions with different timing. It states that switching to the Basic plan starts on your next billing date, so a downgrade leaves the current plan running until then. If you cancelled instead, the subscription ends rather than stepping down, and resubscribing later starts fresh at the current price.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel my CNN subscription?

Does deleting the CNN app cancel my subscription?
No. CNN states that deleting the CNN app does not cancel your subscription. It has to be cancelled in your CNN account or in the store that sold it.
When should I cancel to avoid the next CNN charge?
CNN states you should cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date to avoid future charges, and that the plan automatically renews unless you cancel it.
How do I cancel a CNN subscription bought through Roku or Amazon?
In that service's own account. CNN's app store billing guidance covers Apple, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Prime Video Channels and Roku, and a subscription bought through any of them is cancelled there rather than on CNN.
How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?
For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. Add the trial deadline to Subex and set a reminder so you can review it in time.
