In this guide
Before you start.
- If you have just been charged for an annual plan, check the date. Instacart states the refund window for annual members is the first 5 calendar days of the paid membership, and only if you have not placed an order using the membership.
- Placing even one order with the membership ends that refund eligibility, so deal with the membership before you shop if the charge was a mistake.
- Check whether the membership came through a partner such as an eligible Chase card or another benefit programme, because that is managed through the provider rather than as an ordinary paid plan.
- If you are on a trial, find the trial end date in your membership details and cancel before it, since the paid plan starts automatically otherwise.
How to find all your subscriptions How to cancel a membership
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Instacart+, step by step.
Cancel on the Instacart website
The membership page is the same one that shows your renewal date, so you can confirm the timing while you are there.
- Sign in at instacart.com with the account being charged.
- Select the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner.
- Select Your Instacart+ membership.
- Under the Manage section, select Cancel membership.
- Complete the confirmation steps and check the page no longer shows a renewal date.
Trial members use the same route: open the membership details and cancel before the trial ends.
Cancel in the Instacart app
The same setting sits one level deeper in the app, under Settings rather than on the main account screen.
- Open the Instacart app and select the Account icon in the upper right corner.
- Select Settings, then Your Instacart+ membership.
- Select Cancel membership under the Manage section.
- Work through the confirmation until the membership shows as ending.
What happens next?
- Instacart states that if you cancel outside the refund window you do not get a refund, but you keep the $0 delivery fees through the end of your billing period.
- Where a refund does apply, it is the membership fee for an annual plan cancelled within the first 5 calendar days with no orders placed against it.
- Cancelling the membership does not cancel an order that is already placed or scheduled. Those are handled in the order itself and have their own cutoffs.
- Cancelling the membership does not close the Instacart account. Deleting the account is a separate request in Instacart's help centre.
- Service fees, delivery fees on small orders and tips are charged per order and are separate from the membership fee.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I was charged for a year and only wanted a month
Act immediately and do not place an order. Instacart states an annual member can cancel within the first 5 calendar days of the paid membership and be refunded the fee, but only if no orders have been placed using the membership. Shopping first removes that option.
I cancelled but the membership still shows as active
That is expected while the paid period runs. Instacart states the $0 delivery fees continue through the end of the billing period after a cancellation, so the membership displays as active with an end date. Check that it shows an end date rather than a renewal date.
There is no cancel option on my membership page
This usually means the membership is not a plan you pay Instacart for directly. A membership provided through a partner benefit, such as an eligible Chase card, is managed through that provider. Check the receipt and see which account or benefit the charge belongs to.
Cancel membership is missing and I subscribed on my phone
A membership started inside the app can be billed through the App Store or Google Play instead of by Instacart, and in that case Instacart's own settings cannot stop it. Check the receipt: if it comes from Apple or Google, cancel in that store's subscription settings. If it comes from Instacart, use the routes above.
I cancelled the membership and an order still arrived and charged me
Membership and orders are separate. Cancelling Instacart+ removes the fee benefits but does not stop an order you already placed or scheduled, which continues unless you cancel it in the order itself.
My trial converted to a paid membership before I noticed
A trial rolls into the paid plan automatically at its end date. Once the paid membership has started, the only refund Instacart documents is the annual 5-day, no-orders window, so a converted monthly plan generally runs to the end of its period instead.

How do I cancel my Instacart+ membership?
Go to Your Instacart+ membership, reached from the three horizontal lines on the website or the Account icon and Settings in the app, and select Cancel membership under Manage.

Instacart states annual members can cancel within the first 5 calendar days of the paid membership and get the membership fee back, but only if they have not placed an order using the membership. Cancelling at any other time gives no refund.
