LIFESTYLE & FAMILYSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Life360 membership.

Only the person who bought the membership can cancel it. In the app: tap Settings in the upper left, tap Account, tap Cancel Membership, choose a reason, tap Continue and then Yes, Confirm Cancellation. The app then redirects you to the App Store or Google Play, and you have to tap your active Life360 subscription and tap Cancel Subscription there to finish. Do not delete your account first: Life360 states that deleting your account, deleting the app or leaving a Circle will not cancel your membership.

Before you start.

  • Check that the membership is yours. Life360 states that anyone in a Circle can sign up for a membership, including children if they have access to mobile purchases, and that only the subscriber can cancel the membership. If you cannot see a cancel option, someone else in the Circle is paying.
  • Cancel before you delete anything. Life360 states that deleting your account, deleting the app or leaving a Circle will not cancel your membership, and that you should cancel prior to deleting your account. Deleting first removes your route to the cancel button while the store keeps charging.
  • Expect a two-part cancellation. The in-app flow does not finish the job on its own: Life360's own steps end by redirecting you to the store to cancel the subscription there. Stopping after the in-app confirmation is the single most common way a Life360 cancellation fails.
  • Cancel a trial a day early. Life360 states that to avoid being billed before the 7-day trial ends, you should cancel the membership a day prior to the renewal date.
  • There is no proration. Life360 states that it does not refund any unused time on a subscription, and that upon cancelling, your subscription is valid until your paid period is completed. Its terms give the example of cancelling an annual subscription two months in and keeping the features for the remaining ten months without a refund.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Life360, step by step.

Cancel in the Life360 app

This is the route Life360 documents first, and it is the same on iPhone and Android. Read to the end: the last two steps happen in the store, not in the app.

  1. Open the Life360 app.
  2. Tap on Settings in the upper left corner.
  3. Tap on Account.
  4. Tap on Cancel Membership. If you do not see Cancel Membership, Life360 directs you to cancel on Life360.com instead.
  5. Review the benefits of the plan you want to cancel and tap on Cancel Membership.
  6. Select your reason for cancelling and tap on Continue.
  7. Tap on Yes, Confirm Cancellation.
  8. The app redirects you to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Tap on your active Life360 subscription.
  9. Tap on Cancel Subscription. If you are still within the 7-day free trial, tap on Cancel Free Trial.

Life360's terms put this in plain terms: if you signed up directly with the Apple App or Google Play store, you must also cancel directly with that store, which you reach from the last page of the in-app cancellation process.

Cancel on Life360.com

Use this if you bought the membership on the website. Life360 states that if you purchased from its website and are using an Android device, you must cancel by logging in at Life360.com.

  1. Log in at life360.com.
  2. Open Manage Membership.
  3. Scroll down to the cancellation section and select the paid membership you want to cancel.
  4. Select Cancel Subscription and follow the prompts.

This route only works for a membership bought here. Life360 states that if you did not sign up through Life360.com, you will not be able to cancel through Life360.com.

Cancel an Apple-billed membership

If you subscribed on an iPhone through the App Store, Apple holds the money. This is also where the in-app flow sends you to finish.

  1. Open the App Store app on your iPhone, or open Settings.
  2. Tap on your name.
  3. Tap on Subscriptions.
  4. Tap on Life360.
  5. Tap on Cancel Subscription.

If Life360 is not in the list, a different Apple Account paid for it, which in a family is commonly a partner's or a child's. Purchase Sharing lets a family member subscribe on their own account.

Cancel a Google Play-billed membership

If you subscribed on an Android phone through Google Play, the cancellation belongs there. Google Play is also the only channel where Life360 offers a pause.

  1. Open the Google Play app on your Android phone.
  2. Tap on your profile icon on the top right, and make sure you are under the correct email address.
  3. Tap on Payments & subscriptions.
  4. Tap on Life360.
  5. Tap on Cancel Subscription.

Life360 documents Pause payments here as an alternative, and states that only monthly memberships can be paused: an annual membership can be kept active or cancelled.

What happens next?

  • The membership runs to the end of the paid period. Life360 states that upon cancelling, your subscription is valid until your paid period is completed, and that it does not refund unused time.
  • Location sharing itself does not stop. The free tier keeps live location sharing, SOS alerts as a push notification and the Weekly Family Driving Summary, which Life360 describes as a free feature.
  • Location history shrinks rather than disappears. Life360 documents 2 days of history on the free tier against 30 days on Gold and Platinum, so the older history stops being visible rather than being deleted.
  • The paid protections end: Roadside Assistance, Stolen Phone Protection, Identity Theft Protection, individual driver reports and the emergency dispatch that Gold and Platinum add to Crash Detection and SOS. Free Crash Detection still detects a crash and contacts you, without the dispatch.
  • Your history is not removed by cancelling. Life360 states there is no way to delete your history or driving events, and that they are deleted only if you delete your entire account. It also states that history belongs to your account rather than a Circle, so members of a new Circle may see history from the retention window even if it was recorded while you were in a different Circle.
  • There is no export. Life360 states it is not possible to print or export driving history and recommends taking screenshots, so capture anything you need before you delete an account.

Pausing or freezing Life360.

Can I pause Life360 instead of cancelling?

Only on Google Play. Life360 documents Pause payments there for monthly memberships, for one to three months and up to three times in twelve months. It states that annual memberships can be kept active or cancelled, not paused.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no Cancel Membership option in my app

This almost always means you are not the subscriber. Life360 states that only the subscriber can cancel the membership, and that a membership is linked to the account of the family member who created it, so only that family member can view or cancel it. Its own guidance when the option is missing is that another Circle member may be the subscriber, and that you should ask them to check their account. There is no lookup that names the payer for you, so work it out from whose card is charged or whose store account shows the subscription.

My child signed up and I cannot cancel it

This is a documented consequence of how Life360 sells: it states that anyone in a Circle can sign up, including children if they have access to mobile purchases, through Family Payment on Google Play or Purchase Sharing on the App Store. Because the membership belongs to their account, the cancellation has to happen on their device or in their store account. A parent who manages the store family can also cancel it from the store side, under the family member's subscriptions.

I cancelled in the app and I am still being charged

The in-app flow is only the first half. Life360's own steps end with a redirect to the App Store or Google Play, where you have to tap the active Life360 subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If you closed the app at the confirmation screen, the store subscription is still live. Open your store subscriptions directly and check for an expiry date, which is what confirms it is actually cancelled.

I deleted my account or left the Circle and the charges continued

Life360 states this outright: deleting your account, deleting the app or leaving a Circle will not cancel your membership, and it asks you to cancel before deleting the account. If you have already deleted the account, go straight to the store that billed you, since the subscription lives there and does not need the Life360 account to keep charging. This failure can run for years unnoticed because the app is gone from the phone.

Life360 tells me to ask Apple, and Apple tells me to ask Life360

The rule that breaks the loop is that whoever took the payment controls it. If your receipt comes from Apple or Google, that store cancels the subscription and decides any refund, and Life360 genuinely cannot stop it. If the receipt comes from Life360, the store has nothing to cancel and the answer is Manage Membership at life360.com. Check the receipt email first and then deal only with that party.

Someone is asking me to pay to cancel

Do not. Cancelling Life360 is free through the app, the website or your store subscriptions. Paid cancellation services and chat lines that ask for a fee to end a trial are not part of Life360, and handing them payment details adds a second problem to the one you are trying to solve.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Who can cancel a Life360 membership?

Only the subscriber. Life360 states that a membership is linked to the account of the family member who created it and that only that family member can view or cancel it. If you have no cancel option, someone else in your Circle is the subscriber.

Does deleting the Life360 app or my account stop the billing?

No. Life360 states that deleting your account, deleting the app or leaving a Circle will not cancel your membership, and asks you to cancel the membership before deleting the account.

Will Life360 refund the rest of my annual membership?

No. Life360 states that it does not refund unused time and gives the example of an annual subscription cancelled two months in: you keep the features for the remaining ten months but get no refund. Customers in the EU, EEA and UK have a separate legal right to withdraw within 14 days of purchase.

What still works on Life360 after cancelling?

Live location sharing continues, along with SOS push alerts and the Weekly Family Driving Summary. Location history drops from 30 days on Gold and Platinum to 2 days, and the paid extras end: Roadside Assistance, Stolen Phone Protection, Identity Theft Protection and the emergency dispatch on Crash Detection and SOS.

Is my location history deleted when I cancel?

No. Life360 states there is no way to delete your history or driving events and that they are deleted only if you delete your entire account. Cancelling shortens how far back you can see, to 2 days on the free tier.
