Before you start.
- Identify your home location. Massage Envy defines it as the franchised location where you entered into the membership contract, and that is the only place that can end the contract. Another location can serve you but holds no agreement.
- Find your membership agreement. Each Massage Envy location is an independently owned and operated franchise, so notice periods, cancellation methods and any early termination terms are set in the agreement you signed there.
- Check where you are in the first 12 months. Massage Envy says membership starts with a 12 month membership and renews monthly after that, so cancelling during the first year may follow different terms from cancelling afterwards.
- Count your unused sessions. Massage Envy says accrued sessions expire and are forfeited if not used within 60 days of membership cancellation, so plan when to book them before you cancel.
- Note your billing date. Ask the location how far ahead of it the cancellation has to be in place to stop the next monthly charge.
How to find all your subscriptions How to cancel a membership
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Massage Envy, step by step.
Contact your home Massage Envy location
This is the route Massage Envy itself gives. The membership contract sits with the franchise owner at your home location, so that location handles the cancellation.
- Look up your home location with the Massage Envy location finder, or find it on your membership agreement or a receipt.
- Contact that location and say clearly that you want to cancel your membership.
- Ask what its agreement requires: the notice needed before your next billing date, the method it accepts, and whether you are still inside the initial 12 month period.
- Ask for the date the cancellation takes effect and whether one more monthly charge is still scheduled.
- Ask for written or emailed confirmation, and book any remaining sessions within 60 days of the cancellation.
Massage Envy's membership pages do not describe an online cancellation button or a way to cancel through the app. Use the method your home location confirms.
Back it up with a written request to the same location
Useful when you have moved away, the location is slow to respond, or you want a dated record. It still goes to your home location, because that is where the contract is.
- Confirm the home location's mailing or email address with the location itself.
- Write a short request to cancel your membership, with your full name, the phone number and email on the account, and the location name.
- Send it in a way that leaves a record, such as email you keep or mail with tracking.
- Keep a copy of what you sent and any reply.
- Watch your statement over the next billing cycle and raise any later charge with the location, using your dated request.
A written request is a backstop, not a rule from Massage Envy. Your agreement states which methods the location must accept.
What happens next?
- Unused accrued sessions expire and are forfeited if not used within 60 days of membership cancellation, according to Massage Envy.
- Appointments booked during that time still follow Massage Envy's appointment policy: at least 24 hours' notice to cancel without charge, a possible charge of 50% of the service price or half of one unused monthly Wellness Benefit for a same-day cancellation, and up to the full price or one whole Wellness Benefit for a no-show.
- Your benefits worked at other locations, but the contract did not travel. Confirm the cancellation with your home location even if you have been using a different one.
- Deleting the Massage Envy app does not cancel anything. The app books and manages appointments; the membership is a contract with your home location.
- Check your statement for a full billing cycle after cancelling to make sure the monthly charge has stopped.
Pausing or freezing Massage Envy.
Can I freeze or pause my Massage Envy membership?
Massage Envy's membership pages do not describe a freeze. Because each location is an independently owned franchise, ask your home location whether its agreement allows one and what it costs.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
The location I visit says it cannot cancel my membership
That is expected if it is not your home location. Massage Envy says your benefits travel with you but your membership contract does not, and stays with the franchised location where you signed. Use the location finder to reach your home location, or check your agreement or a receipt to see which one it is.
I was told I cannot cancel during my first year
Massage Envy says membership starts with a 12 month membership and renews monthly after that. What happens if you leave inside those 12 months is set in the agreement you signed with your home location, not by a national rule. Ask the location to show you the clause and the cost of ending early in writing.
I cancelled and lost my unused massages
Massage Envy says accrued sessions expire and are forfeited if not used within 60 days of membership cancellation. If the 60 days have not passed yet, book now. If they have, ask the home location whether it can make an exception, but the published rule is the 60 day limit.
I cancelled but was charged again
Check the date your request reached the home location against your billing date and the notice period in your agreement. A request inside the notice period can still allow one more charge. If the charge came after the cancellation should have taken effect, take your dated confirmation back to the home location.
