LIFESTYLE & FAMILYSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel a Patreon membership.

On the web, open Settings from the left-side menu, go to the Memberships tab, click View Details on the creator's membership, then Cancel membership and confirm. In the app, open the creator's page, tap the three dots, then Your membership, Edit membership and Cancel membership. Cancel at least a day before your billing date. A membership you joined in the iPhone or iPad app through Apple's in-app purchase is billed by Apple, so check your Apple subscriptions too.

Before you start.

  • Each creator is a separate membership. Cancelling one does not cancel the others, so check the whole Memberships list.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before your billing date. Patreon recommends this for subscription billing because time zone differences can bring the charge forward.
  • Check how you paid. Since November 2024, new memberships bought in the Patreon iOS app can go through Apple's in-app purchase, and Patreon sends refund requests for those to Apple.
  • If you cannot find a membership you are being charged for, reset your password with every email you might have used. Patreon suggests this to uncover a second account.
  • Patreon has no pause feature. To stop paying for a while, cancel and rejoin later.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Patreon, step by step.

Cancel on the Patreon website

This is Patreon's documented route on a computer. Memberships bought on the web or in the Android app are billed by Patreon, not by a store.

  1. Log in and, if you also have a creator profile, switch to your member profile from your profile picture in the bottom-left corner.
  2. Click Settings in the left-side menu.
  3. Go to the Memberships tab.
  4. Find the membership and click View Details.
  5. Click Cancel membership, then confirm the cancellation.
  6. Choose whether to stay connected as a free member, then click Save and continue.

The exit survey after this is optional. The cancellation is done once you have confirmed it and the creator no longer appears in your Memberships.

Cancel in the Patreon app

Patreon documents the same cancellation inside the mobile app, starting from the creator's page rather than from Settings.

  1. Open the app and switch to your member profile if you also have a creator profile.
  2. Tap the creator from the list at the top of the Home screen.
  3. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the creator's page, then select Your membership.
  4. Choose Edit membership, then tap Cancel membership.
  5. Scroll down and tap Confirm cancellation.
  6. Set your free membership option and tap Save and Continue.

Check Apple billing for an iPhone membership

Apple requires Patreon to use in-app purchase for memberships bought in the iOS app, so a membership you joined there after November 2024 may be an Apple subscription with an Apple receipt. Apple then controls the renewal.

  1. Search your email for a receipt from Apple that mentions Patreon.
  2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap the Patreon membership.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. If there is no Cancel button and you see an expiration date, it is already cancelled.

If Patreon does not appear in Apple's list and there is no Apple receipt, Patreon bills you directly and the Memberships route above is the one that stops the charge.

What happens next?

  • Your membership does not renew for the next billing period, and you keep access to paid content until the end of the period you paid for.
  • If the creator charged per creation, Patreon processes any pending bills for paid posts published before you cancelled, so one final charge can follow.
  • Patreon uses your Billing History as the record of what was charged. A creator that no longer appears in Memberships, with past payments in Billing History, means you have unsubscribed.
  • Creators are not directly notified when you cancel, though they may see their member count change.
  • Deleting your Patreon account is not a substitute for cancelling. Patreon advises cancelling every membership first, because charges can still occur during the up to 30-day deletion process.

Cancelling a Patreon free trial.

How do I cancel a Patreon free trial?

Cancel the membership the same way, from Settings, Memberships, before the 7-day trial ends. Patreon states you are charged at the end of the trial unless you cancel first, and that you keep the tier's benefits until the trial period ends.

Pausing or freezing Patreon.

Can I pause a Patreon membership?

No. Patreon does not offer a pause for members. Cancel and rejoin later; you can re-subscribe to any creator at any time.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cancelled but Patreon charged me again

Patreon gives two reasons for a charge after cancelling: the creator billed per creation and posted paid content while you were a member, or the membership was still active on its renewal date. If neither fits, reset your password with every email you might have used to find a second account. A charge after you cancelled the renewal is one of the cases Patreon lists as qualifying for a refund.

I cannot find the membership I am paying for

Check that you are on your member profile rather than a creator profile, then look in Settings, Memberships. If it is not there, reset your password with each email address you might have used, since Patreon says unfamiliar charges often belong to another account. Also check Apple's Subscriptions list if you joined in the iPhone app.

My free trial turned into a charge

Patreon free trials last 7 days and become monthly memberships at the end unless you cancel before the trial ends. If you cancel during the trial you keep the benefits until it ends. Patreon states free trials are not available through Apple's in-app purchase system, only on the web, mobile web and Android.

My membership was cancelled without me doing it

Patreon lists three causes: you had already cancelled, the creator removed your membership, or you are looking at a different account. Billing History shows what was actually charged.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my Patreon membership?

On the web: Settings, Memberships, View Details, Cancel membership, then confirm. In the app: the creator's page, the three dots, Your membership, Edit membership, Cancel membership, then Confirm cancellation. An Apple-billed membership is cancelled in your iPhone's Subscriptions settings.

Do I keep access after cancelling a Patreon membership?

Yes. Patreon states you keep access to paid content until the end of your billing period, and the membership does not renew.

How do I cancel Patreon auto-renew before I am charged?

Cancelling the membership is what stops the renewal. Patreon recommends cancelling at least 24 hours before your billing date, because time zone differences can bring the charge forward.

Is deleting my Patreon account the same as cancelling?

No. Account deletion goes through Patreon's Privacy Center, takes up to 30 days, and is not a substitute for cancelling. Cancel all memberships first to avoid charges during the deletion process.

Can I get a refund from Patreon?

For web payments, Patreon lets you request a refund from your Billing History within 60 days of the original payment; per-creation charges and older payments go to Patreon support instead. For a membership bought through Apple's in-app purchase, request the refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Will the creator know I cancelled?

Patreon states creators are not directly notified when you cancel, but they may notice a change in their membership count.
