In this guide
Before you start.
- Cancel a day ahead. Nanit states that subscriptions purchased in the app renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal period.
- Check the channel first. Nanit states that subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are managed through Apple subscriptions, and that if you purchased through the Android Nanit app you log in to my.nanit.com to manage it. An Android purchase is therefore not a Google Play subscription.
- One subscription per camera. Nanit states that if you have multiple Nanit cameras with multiple subscriptions, you will need to change each subscription individually, so cancelling one leaves the others billing.
- Watch for a bundled plan converting. When a plan comes with a camera or an activation code, Nanit asks for a card at activation and tells you that you will not be charged until after your plan period ends, and that it will email you before you are ever charged. That is the point at which a free or included year turns into a renewal.
- Cancel before you uninstall or delete anything. Nanit states plainly that if you decide to uninstall the Nanit app you should cancel your subscription before you do so, and that if you have an active Insights subscription you should cancel it via the channel you purchased it through before deleting your account.
- There is no partial refund. Nanit's terms state that if you terminate a subscription service you may use it until the end of your then-current term, but that you will not be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee paid for that period.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Nanit, step by step.
Cancel an iOS in-app subscription
Nanit states that from December 2021 all subscriptions purchased through the iOS Nanit app are managed through Apple subscriptions, so Apple holds the cancellation and Nanit cannot do it for you.
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Make sure you are logged in to the Apple ID used to purchase the subscription.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Choose the Nanit subscription from the list, then cancel it. You might need to scroll down to find the Cancel Subscription button.
Nanit states that you can cancel the renewal at any time, in which case you keep using the subscription until the next billing date. If you hold plans for more than one camera, each one has to be cancelled separately.
Cancel a plan bought from Nanit
This covers a plan bought on my.nanit.com or Nanit.com, a plan activated with a code that came with a camera, and an Android app purchase, which Nanit routes here rather than to Google Play.
- Log in at my.nanit.com with your Nanit account credentials.
- Open the sidebar menu if you are on a mobile device.
- Locate the camera whose plan you want to end and open Manage Plan for it.
- Cancel the plan from that screen, and follow any prompts to the end.
- Repeat for each camera that has its own plan, then check that no renewal date remains.
Nanit describes my.nanit.com as the place to manage your account, cameras and Insights memberships, and its terms direct you there to terminate the billing authorisation. It does not publish the exact label of the cancel control, so use Manage Plan for the camera as your way in. If you cannot find it, contact Nanit support rather than assuming it is done.
Cancel through Nanit support
Useful when the plan came bundled with hardware, when you cannot tell which channel billed you, or when a charge has already arrived that you did not expect.
- Email help@nanit.com, or call the Nanit support line listed on its support site.
- Say which camera the plan belongs to and which channel you bought through, and ask for the subscription to be cancelled rather than paused.
- If you were charged after cancelling during a trial, say so: Nanit's terms ask you to contact help@nanit.com if you cancel before the end of a trial period and are inadvertently charged.
- Ask for written confirmation and keep it.
Support cannot cancel an Apple-billed subscription for you, since Apple controls that one. For those, the iOS route above is the only one that stops the charge.
What happens next?
- The plan runs to the end of the term. Nanit states that you keep using the subscription until the next billing date, and that the subscription is not renewed after the current term expires.
- The camera keeps monitoring. Nanit states that without an active Insights membership you still have live stream and nursery audio in the app, sound and motion notifications, the nightlight and nature sounds, two way audio, care logs, up to 2 total parenting team members, and breathing motion monitoring.
- The sleep product is what you lose. Nanit states that without an active plan you will not be able to access sleep status, sleep analytics, video clips, continuous video recording, milestones tracking and smart alerts such as cry detection and baby standing.
- Saved Memories stay. Nanit states that after your Insights plan lapses you will still have access to all your existing Memories in the app, and that the number depends on the tier you were on. What stops is saving new ones, which requires an active membership.
- Nanit does not publish what happens to sleep history or video history once a plan lapses, or any window to download it. Its media is stored in the cloud unless you choose to save it to your phone, and saving is done item by item, so anything you want to be certain of keeping is worth saving to your phone before the plan ends.
- Cancelling does not delete the account. Nanit handles account deletion as a separate request, and warns that deleting the account ends access to the video stream and breathing motion monitoring entirely.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
I cancelled one camera's plan and I am still being charged
Nanit sells Insights per camera. It states that if you have multiple Nanit cameras with multiple subscriptions, you need to change each subscription individually. Check every camera on the account at my.nanit.com, and check your Apple subscriptions list for more than one Nanit entry, since a household that added a second camera usually added a second plan with it.
The Nanit subscription is not in my Apple subscriptions list
Either a different Apple ID paid for it, or Apple never billed it. Nanit states that only subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are managed by Apple, and that Android purchases and plans bought on my.nanit.com or Nanit.com are managed by Nanit at my.nanit.com. In a household where one partner set the camera up and the other subscribed, the plan follows whoever's Apple ID or Nanit account was used, so check both.
I was charged after a bundled or gifted plan ended
This is the most common Nanit billing surprise, and the mechanism is documented. When you activate a plan with a code, Nanit asks for a card and tells you that you will not be charged until after the plan period ends, and that it will email you before charging. The plan then renews at the standard rate. If you never intend to continue, cancel as soon as the plan is activated rather than waiting for the email, because the cancellation still leaves you the full term you were given.
I deleted the app or my account and the charges continued
Nanit warns about this in both directions: cancel the subscription before uninstalling the app, and cancel it via the channel you purchased it through before deleting your account. An Apple-billed subscription in particular keeps charging regardless of whether the app or the Nanit account still exists, because it lives in your Apple subscriptions. Go to Settings, your name, Subscriptions and cancel it there.
I cancelled and expected my money back
Cancelling stops the renewal, it does not return the current term. Nanit's terms state that you may use the subscription until the end of the then-current term but will not be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of that period's fee. Note that Nanit's 30 day money back guarantee covers the camera hardware rather than the subscription, so the two are not the same promise. If Apple billed you, a refund request goes to Apple, which decides under its own policy.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
Does the Nanit camera work without a subscription?
Yes. Nanit states that without an active Insights membership you keep live stream and nursery audio, sound and motion notifications, the nightlight and nature sounds, two way audio, care logs, up to 2 parenting team members and breathing motion monitoring. The sleep analytics, video clips, continuous video recording, milestones and smart alerts are what require a plan.
Do I lose my Nanit Memories if I cancel?
No. Nanit states that after your Insights plan lapses you will still have access to all your existing Memories in the app. Saving new Memories requires an active Memories or Milestones membership.
How do I cancel Nanit on Android?
Through Nanit, not Google Play. Nanit states that if you purchased your subscription through the Android Nanit app, you log in to my.nanit.com to manage it. Look for the camera and its Manage Plan option.
Will Nanit refund the rest of my annual Insights plan?
No. Nanit's terms state that on terminating a subscription you may use it until the end of the current term but are not eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of that period's fee. Its 30 day money back guarantee applies to the camera rather than the subscription.
When do I need to cancel to avoid the next charge?
Nanit states that in-app subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal period. Leaving it to the renewal day itself risks another term.
Does deleting my Nanit account cancel the subscription?
No, and Nanit asks you to do it the other way round: cancel an active Insights subscription via the channel you purchased it through before you delete your account. Deleting the account also ends access to the video stream and breathing motion monitoring.
