LEARNINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Pluralsight subscription.

For an individual subscription, sign in to Skills, click your avatar, open Account settings, go to the Subscription & Billing tab and cancel from there. Pluralsight states that cancelling prevents you from being charged again and that this is different from deleting your account, which matters because your credentials survive one and not the other: Pluralsight states that after cancelling you can still log in and your history, channels, Skill IQ, Role IQ and certificates of completion will stay the same. Two things change the answer. A subscription bought through Apple or Google Play can only be managed in that store. A team plan can only be cancelled by a plan admin through the Pluralsight account team, and Pluralsight states you must cancel 30 days prior to your renewal date if the plan is on automatic renewal.

Before you start.

  • Check whether you are on an individual subscription or a team plan, because they are not cancelled in the same place or on the same notice. Pluralsight states that a team plan cancellation requires a plan admin contacting the Pluralsight account team, and that you must cancel 30 days prior to your renewal date if your plan is on automatic renewal. An individual subscription is self-service in Account settings.
  • Confirm you actually have a paid subscription. Pluralsight states that if your Subscription & Billing tab says you currently have access to Pluralsight's Free limited library, you have no subscription to cancel: you are on a free Skills account, which cannot be cancelled.
  • Know the difference between cancelling and deleting. Pluralsight states that cancelling is different from deleting your account, that after cancelling you can still log in, and that your history, channels, Skill IQ, Role IQ and certificates of completion stay the same. Deleting the account is permanent and takes those with it.
  • A free trial behaves differently from a paid subscription. Pluralsight states that cancelling a free trial means you lose access to paid content and features immediately, rather than keeping access to the end of a period.
  • If you bought through a store, the store is the only place it can be managed. Pluralsight states that subscriptions purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store can only be managed on their respective platforms, and that if you have trouble you should contact Google or Apple Support.
  • Resubscribing later will not restore your old price. Pluralsight states that if you purchased or started a trial of a Skills subscription in the past and then cancelled, it cannot honor past pricing or discounts.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Pluralsight, step by step.

Cancel an individual Pluralsight subscription

This is the route for a subscription bought directly from Pluralsight. The exact sequence varies slightly by account, so Pluralsight documents two paths through the same tab.

  1. Sign in to your Skills account.
  2. Click your avatar in the navigation menu and click Account settings.
  3. Click the Subscription & Billing tab.
  4. Click Cancel, or on some accounts click Manage plan and then Cancel.
  5. Click Yes, cancel my plan, or choose a reason and click Continue with cancellation.
  6. Click Confirm cancellation to finish.

Pluralsight states you can optionally provide a reason, and that if you change your mind you can click Restart subscription to restore access to learning content. If the tab shows that you have access to Pluralsight's Free limited library, there is no subscription to cancel.

Cancel a Pluralsight subscription billed by Apple

Pluralsight sells individual subscriptions inside its mobile app, and those purchases belong to the store rather than to Pluralsight.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. On a Mac use the App Store app, or iTunes on a Windows PC.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select the Pluralsight entry.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Pluralsight states that if you purchased an individual subscription through Apple you must manage it using the Settings app on iOS, the App Store on macOS or iTunes on Windows, and that through Apple you can change between monthly and annual billing, manage your payment method and cancel. Your subscription details remain visible on the Pluralsight billing page even though the cancellation happens at Apple.

Cancel a Pluralsight subscription billed by Google Play

A subscription bought in the Pluralsight Android app is a Google Play purchase and Pluralsight states it must be managed in Google Play.

  1. Open the Google Play Store app with the Google Account that bought the subscription.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select Pluralsight.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and complete the steps.

Pluralsight states that in Google Play you can manage, renew, change billing for and cancel your subscription, and that subscriptions purchased there can only be managed on that platform. It directs billing problems to Google Play Help rather than handling them itself.

Cancel a Pluralsight team plan

A team plan is a contract rather than a self-service subscription, and the deadline is the part that costs money if missed.

  1. Confirm you are a plan admin, since Pluralsight states you must be one in order to cancel the team plan.
  2. Check your renewal date on the Account page. Pluralsight states that a Renewal Date means auto-renew is enabled and an Expiring On date means it is disabled.
  3. Contact your Pluralsight account team to log the cancellation, which Pluralsight names as the route.
  4. Do this at least 30 days before the renewal date, which Pluralsight states is required when the plan is on automatic renewal.
  5. Confirm in writing that the cancellation has been logged and which date it takes effect.

Pluralsight states that the cancellation goes into effect on the next renewal date rather than immediately. If you are a learner on a team plan rather than its admin, there is nothing for you to cancel: Pluralsight documents leaving a team plan as a separate action that does not affect the organisation's billing.

What happens next?

  • Pluralsight states that if you cancel your Skills subscription you still have access to paid content and features until your subscription's expiration date, giving the example that an account expiring on the 30th and cancelled on the 15th keeps access until the 30th.
  • Your credentials survive. Pluralsight states that you will still be able to log in after paid access ends, and that your history, channels, Skill IQ, Role IQ and certificates of completion will stay the same.
  • What you lose is the content. Pluralsight states that after cancelling you will not have access to paid content or features, and that you will not be charged again unless you resubscribe.
  • A free trial is the exception to the keep-your-access rule. Pluralsight states that cancelling a free trial means you lose access to paid content and features immediately.
  • Coming back costs more. Pluralsight states that if you previously purchased or trialled a subscription and then cancelled, it cannot honor past pricing or discounts.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

There is no cancel option on my Subscription & Billing tab

Pluralsight names two causes. The first is that you have nothing to cancel: it states that if the tab says you currently have access to Pluralsight's Free limited library, you are on a free Skills account, which cannot be cancelled. The second is that a store sold it, since Pluralsight states subscriptions bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store can only be managed on those platforms. A third case is a team plan, where the cancellation runs through a plan admin and the Pluralsight account team rather than through your own settings.

I cancelled but my company was still billed

An individual cancellation and a team plan cancellation are unrelated. Pluralsight states that you must be a plan admin to cancel a team plan, that the cancellation is logged by contacting the Pluralsight account team, and that you must cancel 30 days prior to your renewal date if the plan is on automatic renewal. Missing that 30 day notice means the plan renews for another contract term. Pluralsight also distinguishes auto-renew from auto-pay: disabling auto-pay only changes whether the card is charged automatically, and does not stop the contract renewing.

I lost access the moment I cancelled

That means you were on a free trial rather than a paid subscription. Pluralsight states that cancelling a free trial means you lose access to paid content and features immediately, while cancelling a paid subscription keeps access until the expiration date. If you were on a paid plan and access ended early anyway, check whether the account was deleted rather than cancelled, since Pluralsight describes deletion as permanent and separate from cancellation.

Will I lose my certificates and Skill IQ scores?

Not by cancelling. Pluralsight states that you can still log in after paid access ends and that your history, channels, Skill IQ, Role IQ and certificates of completion will stay the same. The action that removes them is deleting your account, which Pluralsight describes as permanent and documents separately. If you want the record gone as well as the billing, those are two deliberate steps rather than one.

My access came through my employer and I cannot cancel it

A licence assigned on a team plan is not yours to cancel. Pluralsight documents assigning and revoking team plan licenses and leaving a team plan as administrator and learner actions respectively, separate from cancelling the plan itself. Leaving a team plan removes your seat without ending the organisation's contract. If you are being charged personally as well, that is a separate individual subscription and it is cancelled in your own Account settings.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Do I keep my Pluralsight certificates after cancelling?

Yes. Pluralsight states that after your paid access ends you will still be able to log in to your Skills account, and that your history, channels, Skill IQ, Role IQ and certificates of completion will stay the same. What ends is access to paid content and features. Deleting your account is the separate, permanent action that does remove them.

When does my Pluralsight access actually end?

Pluralsight states that you keep access to paid content and features until your subscription's expiration date, and gives the example of an account expiring on the 30th still having access when cancelled on the 15th. A free trial is different: Pluralsight states that cancelling a trial ends access to paid content immediately.

How much notice does a Pluralsight team plan need?

Pluralsight states that you must cancel 30 days prior to your renewal date if your plan is on automatic renewal, that you must be a plan admin to cancel, and that the cancellation is logged by contacting your Pluralsight account team. It states the cancellation goes into effect on the next renewal date. Pluralsight also recommends requesting any plan changes at least 30 days before renewal.

Can I get my old Pluralsight price back if I resubscribe?

Pluralsight states that if you purchased or started a trial of a Skills subscription in the past and then cancelled, it cannot honor past pricing or discounts. Resubscribing is documented as clicking Resubscribe or Upgrade now on the Subscription & Billing tab, at whatever the current rate is.
