In this guide
Before you start.
- Find the receipt before anything else. Speechify states that it offers a variety of entry points including the App Store, Google Play and the web with credit card or PayPal payment options, and that you should refer to the receipt sent to your email address to verify which platform you subscribed on.
- Speechify annotates the credit card route as Stripe and says it is most likely the right option if you paid by card, resolved by logging in to Speechify.com and cancelling through your account settings.
- Work to the 24 hour deadline on a trial. Speechify states that cancelling at least 24 hours before your trial period ends will prevent future charges. It does not publish a trial length, so the date in your account or store settings is the figure to trust.
- Cancelling a trial does not cut it short. Speechify states that if you are on a free trial you keep Premium features until the trial period is over, so there is no reason to leave it until the last day.
- Check the refund window before you cancel, because it is short and narrow. Speechify states you must contact it within 7 days from the date of the subscription, including any trial period, for it to be able to issue a refund.
- The price you paid depends on where you bought it. Speechify publishes Premium as 139.99 dollars per year on the Apple App Store, 139 dollars per year or 29 dollars per month on the web, and 99.99 dollars per year on the Google Play Store, which is also why a store charge can look unfamiliar.
- Check for a second subscription. Speechify states that holding more than one can happen if you subscribed from one platform and then accidentally subscribed on another because you used a different account or email address, and that logging in with a different credential creates a new account that can then be prompted to start a premium trial.
- Speechify states that refunds for subscriptions purchased through the Apple iTunes Store, its iOS application or the Google Play store are final and that it will not provide a refund, so a store purchase is outside its own policy entirely.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Speechify, step by step.
Cancel a web or Stripe subscription
A subscription bought with a card on Speechify's site is billed by Speechify through Stripe, and this is the only channel it cancels directly.
- Go to app.speechify.com and sign in with the account that holds the subscription.
- Click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click Settings.
- Click Cancel Subscription in the left panel.
- Follow the prompts and keep any confirmation you are shown.
Speechify states that after you cancel you keep Speechify Premium features until your next billing date. If the page will not complete the cancellation, its published support address is support@speechify.com.
Cancel on iPhone or iPad
Apple bills an App Store purchase. Speechify states that refunds on those are final on its side, so the store is the only party that can act.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top, which is your Apple Account.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Speechify from the list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm, at least 24 hours before the renewal or trial end date.
Cancel on Android
Google Play bills a purchase made in the Android app, and Speechify publishes a separate help article pointing there.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Select Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Speechify.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Speechify prices the Play subscription lower than the Apple one, at 99.99 dollars per year against 139.99, so the amount on the statement is a useful clue to which store charged you.
Cancel a PayPal subscription
PayPal is Speechify's fourth channel, and a PayPal billing agreement is cancelled inside PayPal rather than in Speechify's settings.
- Log in to PayPal.
- Click Activity in your Account or Profile tab.
- Click All Transactions.
- Select the merchant, which is Speechify.
- Click Cancel.
A PayPal agreement can keep charging even when the Speechify account looks cancelled, so check here as well if a charge continues.
What happens next?
- Speechify states that after you cancel, you keep Speechify Premium features until your next billing date, and that a cancelled trial keeps Premium features until the trial period is over.
- You drop to the free tier, which Speechify describes as speeds up to 1.5x and 10 robotic voices, so the natural voices, the higher reading speeds and the extra languages stop.
- The AI features tied to Premium, including summaries and the wider voice library, stop being available for new use.
- Speechify describes the library as syncing across devices, and does not state that it is deleted when a subscription ends. Anything you rely on is still worth exporting before the plan lapses.
- Refunds are separate and short. Speechify states you must contact it within 7 days from the date of the subscription, including any trial period, and that it does not offer partial refunds for a billing cycle you have partly used.
- Speechify states that subscriptions purchased through the Apple iTunes Store, its iOS application or the Google Play store are final and that it will not provide a refund on those.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
The cancel page fails with an error and support has not replied
This is a recurring complaint about the web cancellation flow. Do not stop at the error: work out from the receipt which of the four channels billed you, because a store or PayPal subscription is not stopped by Speechify's page anyway. For an App Store or Play charge, cancel in the store. For a PayPal agreement, cancel it inside PayPal under Activity, All Transactions, the merchant, then Cancel. Speechify publishes support@speechify.com and a support phone number if the web route stays broken.
I am being charged twice
Speechify documents this directly. It states that multiple subscriptions can happen if you subscribed from one platform and then accidentally subscribed on another because you used a different account or email address, and that logging in with a different credential creates a new account which can then be prompted to start a premium trial. Check each of the four channels, not just the one you remember.
My trial charged me before it ended
Check the trial end date in your store or account settings rather than counting from installation, and note the deadline Speechify sets: cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial period ends is what prevents future charges. If the charge has landed, the refund clock is short: Speechify states you must contact it within 7 days from the date of the subscription, including any trial period.
I cancelled and a renewal arrived a year later
Two things cause this. Either the cancellation was made on a channel that was not the one billing you, which the receipt will settle, or a second account holds an active subscription. Speechify's own multiple-subscriptions article describes exactly that second case. Confirm the cancellation by checking that the store entry shows an expiry date, or that the Speechify account no longer shows an active plan.
My annual plan ran out before the year did
Speechify's refund policy meters usage in HD words, which suggests the annual plan carries an allowance rather than being unlimited. If you are prompted to pay again partway through a year you have already paid for, ask support to confirm your remaining allowance and its reset date before buying anything else, since a second purchase creates a second subscription on top of the first.
GOOD TO KNOW
Questions, answered.
How do I cancel Speechify?
On the channel that billed you, which the receipt tells you. Web or Stripe: app.speechify.com, your profile photo, Settings, Cancel Subscription. App Store: Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Google Play: Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. PayPal: Activity, All Transactions, the merchant, then Cancel.
Can I get a refund from Speechify?
Within 7 days and only on some purchases. Speechify states you must contact it within 7 days from the date of the subscription, including any trial period, and that monthly, quarterly and discounted subscriptions are non-refundable, as are purchases made through the Apple iTunes Store, its iOS app or Google Play.
When should I cancel a Speechify trial?
At least 24 hours before it ends, which is the deadline Speechify states prevents future charges. Cancelling early costs nothing: Speechify states you keep Premium features until the trial period is over.
Why is Speechify cheaper on Google Play?
Speechify publishes different prices per channel: 139.99 dollars per year on the Apple App Store, 139 dollars per year or 29 dollars per month on the web, and 99.99 dollars per year on the Google Play Store. The amount on your statement is a useful way to identify which one charged you.
What do I lose on the free version of Speechify?
Speechify describes its free tier as reading speeds up to 1.5x with 10 robotic voices. The natural voice library, the higher speeds, the extra languages and the Premium AI features stop at the end of the period you paid for.
