In this guide
Before you start.
- Identify the platform that charged you. Strava says you must cancel using the same platform where you originally subscribed, so a cancellation on the website does nothing to an Apple or Google charge.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Strava states this, so leaving it to the day of renewal risks the charge going through.
- If a refund is what you actually want, note the window. Strava says refunds are eligible within 14 days of purchase, that after 14 days subscriptions are non-refundable, and that processing typically takes 5 to 7 business days.
- Your data is not at risk. Strava says cancelling your subscription does not delete any of your uploaded activities or data, and that you only lose access to subscription features.
- If your subscription came with a device purchase, check how it was set up, since Strava documents subscription trials tied to device purchases separately from ordinary sign-ups.
- Consider changing the subscription length rather than cancelling if the annual price is the problem, since Strava documents changing subscription length as its own option.
FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE
Cancel Strava, step by step.
Cancel on the Strava website
Use this if you subscribed directly through Strava rather than through an app store. It is the most direct route and works from any browser.
- Log in to your account at strava.com.
- Select your profile picture at the top right.
- Go to Settings, then My Account.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
- Follow the prompts to the confirmation and note the date your access ends.
If the option is missing here, a store holds your billing. Strava says cancellation has to happen on the platform where you originally subscribed.
Cancel an Apple-billed Strava subscription
If you subscribed inside the iPhone app, Apple holds the billing. Strava's app routes you there rather than cancelling it itself.
- Open Strava and go to the You tab.
- Tap the gear icon for Settings.
- Select Your Strava Subscription, then Manage Your Subscription.
- Complete the cancellation in the Apple subscriptions screen this opens.
- Alternatively go straight to Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Strava, Cancel Subscription.
The cancellation only counts once Apple's screen confirms it. Backing out of that screen leaves the subscription active.
Cancel a Google Play-billed Strava subscription
If you subscribed inside the Android app, Google Play holds the billing and the cancellation belongs there.
- Open Strava and go to the You tab.
- Tap the gear icon for Settings.
- Select Your Strava Subscription, then Manage Your Subscription.
- Complete the cancellation in the Google Play screen this opens.
- Alternatively open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Strava and tap Cancel subscription.
Use the Google Account that bought the subscription. A different account will not list it.
What happens next?
- Strava says you retain access to subscription features until the end of your current subscription term, so cancelling does not cut you off immediately.
- Your training history stays. Strava states that cancelling your subscription does not delete any of your uploaded activities or data, and that you only lose access to subscription features.
- The free account continues. Recording and uploading activities does not depend on the subscription, so the account keeps working with fewer features.
- Refunds are separate from cancelling and time limited. Strava says refunds are eligible within 14 days of purchase and that after 14 days subscriptions are non-refundable.
- Segment leaderboards, route planning and the other subscriber features stop at the end of the term rather than at the moment you cancel.
Cancelling a Strava free trial.
How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?
For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
How do I cancel a Google Play free trial before it renews?
Open your subscriptions in Google Play using the Google Account that started the trial. Select the plan, choose Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps before the trial expires. Otherwise, the paid subscription begins automatically under the offer’s terms. Uninstalling the app does not stop renewal. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.
WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK
If you get stuck.
Cancel Subscription is missing from my Strava settings
That points to a store holding your billing rather than Strava. Strava says you must cancel using the same platform where you originally subscribed, so a subscription bought in the iPhone app is cancelled in Apple's subscriptions and one bought in the Android app in Google Play. Check the receipt email: if it came from Apple or Google, the website will never show a cancel option for it.
I cancelled but was charged for another year
Check the timing. Strava says to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date, so a cancellation on the renewal day can land after the charge. Also confirm the cancellation completed in the right place, since tapping Manage Your Subscription in the app only opens Apple's or Google's screen, and the cancellation has to be confirmed there. If the charge is within 14 days of purchase, Strava says refunds are eligible in that window.
Will I lose my activities and segment history?
No. Strava states that cancelling your subscription does not delete any of your uploaded activities or data, and that you only lose access to subscription features. Your rides and runs stay on the account and remain visible after the subscription ends. What goes is the subscriber layer on top, such as the deeper analysis and subscriber-only segment features.
I am paying twice for Strava
This usually means two subscriptions on two platforms, often after switching phones: one bought through Apple and another later through the website or Google Play. Because Strava says each must be cancelled on the platform it was bought on, cancelling one leaves the other running. Check the website account, your Apple subscriptions and your Google Play subscriptions in turn, and cancel each one you find.
My subscription came with a device and I cannot find it
Strava documents subscription trials tied to device purchases as their own case, and these are frequently activated through a code or a partner rather than through a normal purchase. Check which email address the subscription confirmation went to, and whether your account shows a trial end date. If no cancel option appears anywhere, contact Strava support with the details of the device promotion.
