DATINGSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Tinder subscription.

Tinder states that deleting your account won't cancel an active subscription, and that uninstalling or deleting the app won't either: whoever took the payment keeps charging. Cancel where you paid. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Tinder, Cancel Subscription. On Android with Google Play: Play Store, profile icon, Payments & Subscriptions, Subscriptions, Tinder, Cancel subscription. If you paid by card or PayPal in the Android app, or on tinder.com, open your profile icon in Tinder and use Manage Payment Account. The order number on your receipt tells you which: MK means Apple, GPA means Google Play, TNDR means Tinder.

Before you start.

  • Cancel before you delete the profile, not after. Tinder states that deleting your account won't cancel an active subscription, and once the account is gone the Manage Payment Account route goes with it. If you have already deleted it, go straight to Apple or Google: a store subscription lives there, not in Tinder.
  • Find the receipt and read the order number. Tinder states that an order number starting with MK means you bought on iOS and Apple bills you, GPA means the Android app and Google Play bills you, and TNDR means tinder.com or the Android app paid by card. The prefix decides the route.
  • On an iPhone, check how you paid. Tinder states that Apple Pay and web payment options are rolling out in select markets, and that if you subscribed with one of those you follow the tinder.com instructions rather than Apple's.
  • Check the renewal date and cancel ahead of it. Tinder states subscriptions renew automatically until they are cancelled.
  • Separate the subscription from one-off purchases. Super Likes and Boosts bought as packs are consumables, not part of Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum, and cancelling the subscription does not remove or refund them.
  • If you switched phones, cancel on the platform you originally paid on. Tinder states that subscriptions don't transfer between platforms, so an iOS purchase has to be cancelled on the old device's platform even if you now use Android.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Tinder, step by step.

Cancel on iPhone

Apple bills the subscription when you subscribed in the iOS app, which Tinder identifies by an order number starting with MK. Apple holds the plan, so Tinder cannot stop it for you.

  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Find and select the Tinder subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

If Tinder is not in the list, you are signed in with a different Apple Account than the one that paid, or you paid with Apple Pay or on the web, which Tinder handles under its tinder.com instructions.

Cancel on Android

Google Play bills the subscription when you subscribed in the Android app, which Tinder identifies by an order number starting with GPA.

  1. Open the Google Play app.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Go to Payments & Subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  4. Select the Tinder subscription.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription.

Tinder states that Google handles all refunds and cancellations for Tinder purchases made through Google Play. If you paid in the Android app with a card or PayPal instead, use the next route.

Cancel a card or PayPal payment in the app or on tinder.com

Tinder bills you directly when you paid by card on tinder.com, or by card or PayPal through the Android app, which Tinder identifies by an order number starting with TNDR. This is the only channel Tinder itself controls.

  1. On tinder.com: go to tinder.com and log in. In the Android app: open Tinder on your Android device.
  2. Tap your profile icon.
  3. Choose Manage Payment Account.
  4. Find the subscription you want to cancel.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Cancel here before deleting the profile. A deleted account leaves no way into Manage Payment Account, and a card subscription then has to go through Tinder's help centre with the order number.

What happens next?

  • Cancelling stops the next renewal. Tinder's terms state you keep access to your subscription benefits until the end of your subscription period, at which point it expires.
  • Tinder's terms state that cancelling your subscription does not remove your profile. Deleting the account is a separate step, best done after the cancellation.
  • Super Likes and Boosts you bought as packs are separate one-off purchases. They are not cancelled or refunded when the subscription ends, and any unused ones stay on the account.
  • A refund is requested from whoever took the payment. Tinder states that Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases made through them, and that it assists with card, PayPal and Google CC purchases with order numbers starting TNDR or COSU.

Cancelling a Tinder free trial.

How do I cancel an App Store free trial before I’m charged?

For a trial billed by Apple, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Select the trial, choose the cancellation option and confirm. Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before the trial ends to prevent renewal. Check the confirmation for your access end date. If you track it in Subex, enter the date the trial converts as the renewal date and set a reminder 1 or 3 days before.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I deleted my Tinder account and I am still being charged

This is the most common Tinder billing complaint, and Tinder states it plainly: deleting your account won't cancel an active subscription. A store subscription sits with Apple or Google Play, so open Subscriptions on your iPhone or in the Play Store, find Tinder there and cancel it. The entry stays visible in the store even though the dating account is gone. If the charge came by card or PayPal with a TNDR order number instead, contact Tinder through its help centre with the order number, because a deleted account has no Manage Payment Account page.

Tinder is not in my App Store or Play Store subscriptions list

The list only shows subscriptions bought with the account you are signed in to, so a second Apple Account or Google account is the usual cause. Check which address the receipt went to. If there is no store receipt at all, the charge is probably a card, PayPal or Apple Pay payment that Tinder bills directly, which is managed under Manage Payment Account in Tinder rather than in a store.

I cancelled but a charge arrived anyway

Check the date. A renewal processed before the cancellation completed still stands. Also check whether you hold more than one subscription: switching devices without cancelling on the old platform leaves two plans running at once, because Tinder states subscriptions don't transfer between platforms. Look in both the App Store and Play Store subscription lists if you have used both.

I subscribed on an iPhone but now use Android and cannot find the plan

Tinder states that subscriptions don't transfer between platforms and that you must cancel on your old device. An Apple-billed plan will never appear in Google Play. Sign in to the Apple Account that paid, on any Apple device or on the web, and cancel it there. Until you do, an Android subscription bought afterwards runs alongside it.

I cannot log in to cancel because the account was banned

A banned or restricted Tinder account does not stop a store subscription, and it blocks the in-app and tinder.com routes. Tinder's terms state that a subscription bought through Apple or Google has to be cancelled in that account even if you have deleted your Tinder account or the app, so cancel there: neither requires you to open Tinder. Only a TNDR card or PayPal subscription needs Tinder's help centre, with the order number from the receipt.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

Does deleting my Tinder account cancel my subscription?

No. Tinder states that deleting your account won't cancel an active subscription, and that uninstalling or deleting the app won't cancel it either. The plan is held by Apple, Google Play or Tinder's own card billing, and it keeps renewing until you cancel it there.

Can I cancel my Tinder subscription anytime?

Yes. Tinder states subscriptions renew automatically until they are cancelled, and its terms state that if you cancel, you keep your subscription benefits until the end of the subscription period. Cancel ahead of the renewal date so the next period is not charged.

How do I cancel Tinder Gold or Tinder Platinum?

The same way as any Tinder plan: through whoever bills you. Tinder Plus, Gold and Platinum are tiers of one subscription, so cancelling the Tinder entry in your App Store or Play Store subscriptions, or under Manage Payment Account in Tinder, stops whichever tier you hold.

What happens to my Super Likes and Boosts if I cancel?

Packs of Super Likes and Boosts are one-off purchases rather than part of the subscription, so cancelling does not remove or refund them. Any that came with your paid tier, such as the weekly Super Likes and monthly Boost Tinder lists for Gold, stop arriving when the paid period ends.

Can I get a refund after cancelling Tinder?

Cancelling and refunding are separate requests. Tinder states that most in-app purchases are nonrefundable, though some exceptions apply, and that it can help with a purchase made in the last 14 days if you paid by card, PayPal or Google CC. For Apple or Google purchases, Tinder states those platforms handle all refunds and cancellations under their own policies.
