SOFTWARE & PRODUCTIVITYSubscription cancellation guide

How to cancel Zapier subscription.

Zapier states plainly that to cancel your subscription you must select the Free Zapier plan and that there is no separate Cancel button. Go to the Billing and usage page, click Manage, and select Zapier's Free plan. The step that catches people is the last one: Zapier states you must complete the full checkout flow to confirm the downgrade, and that selecting a different plan alone does not schedule it. Afterwards, check the Billing and usage page for a banner showing the date your plan will change. If that banner is missing, Zapier states the downgrade may not have been confirmed.

Before you start.

  • Expect no refund, on any plan. Zapier states that all sales are final and that all purchases are non-refundable, including monthly and annual plans, plan upgrades, renewals and add-ons, and that once a charge is processed it is final and will not be refunded.
  • Cancelling mid-year on an annual plan does not release the money. Zapier states the plan remains active until the end of your current billing cycle regardless of whether you have a monthly or annual plan, so an annual plan cancelled in month two still runs and still costs the full year.
  • Know which trial you are on, because only one of them charges. Zapier states that the 14-day trial for new users does not require a payment method and that the account automatically moves to the Free plan at the end. It states that the 7-day re-trial requires a payment method and that if you do not cancel before it ends, your account will automatically upgrade to a paid plan and you will be charged.
  • You can switch off the trial auto-upgrade in advance. Zapier states that on the Billing and usage page, the Trial settings section lets you choose what happens when the trial ends: Start your paid plan, which is the default, or Downgrade to the Free plan.
  • Pay-per-task is why a bill can arrive after you cancel. Zapier states this feature is enabled by default for accounts created after January 2024, that exceeding your task limit automatically switches you to pay-per-task billing for the rest of the pay period, and that Zap workflows stop running once usage reaches three times your plan's task limit.
  • Check who is allowed to do this. Zapier states that on Teams only the account owner can change plans, and that on Enterprise the owner and super admins can.
  • Count your Zaps before you drop to Free. Zapier states the Free plan allows two-step Zaps only, one trigger and one action, with 100 tasks a month, and that anything above that stops running.

FOLLOW THE RIGHT BILLING ROUTE

Cancel Zapier, step by step.

Cancel by moving to the Free plan

Zapier bills you directly, so there is no App Store or Google Play subscription to cancel. Its own help page states there is no cancel button and that selecting Free is the cancellation.

  1. Visit the Billing and usage page in your Zapier account.
  2. Click the Manage button.
  3. Select Zapier's Free plan.
  4. Complete the checkout step. Zapier states the downgrade will not be scheduled until you finish checkout, and that selecting a different plan alone does not schedule it.
  5. Go back to the Billing and usage page and look for a banner at the top showing the date your plan will change.
  6. If that banner is not there, Zapier states the downgrade may not have been confirmed, so repeat the steps and make sure you complete the Checkout step.

Zapier states the change takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle rather than immediately, that you keep access to your current plan's features until then, and that you may still receive charges for pay-per-task usage from the current billing cycle.

Move to a cheaper paid plan instead

The same flow handles a downgrade to a lower tier, with the same checkout trap. Zapier treats a downgrade and a cancellation as the same mechanism.

  1. Open the Billing and usage page and click Manage.
  2. Select the lower-tier plan you want.
  3. Select monthly or annual billing.
  4. Select or provide a payment method.
  5. Complete the Checkout step, without which Zapier states the downgrade is not scheduled.
  6. Confirm the banner appears on the Billing and usage page with the change date.

Zapier states that a downgrade takes effect at the end of the billing cycle, unlike an upgrade, which takes effect immediately with a per-day credit for the time remaining on the previous plan. To reverse a scheduled downgrade, Zapier states you click Cancel downgrade on the banner.

Turn off pay-per-task billing

This is a separate switch from the plan, and leaving it on is the most common reason a charge appears after a cancellation. Zapier states it is on by default for accounts created after January 2024.

  1. Open the Billing and usage page and go to the Billing settings tab.
  2. Find the Per-task billing section.
  3. Click the toggle to turn it off.
  4. Note what Zapier states next: pay-per-task stops being used immediately, but any usage accrued before you turned it off is added to your next invoice.
  5. On Professional and Team plans, only the account owner can change this.

Zapier states that on monthly billing you may see charges for extra tasks at the end of the last billing cycle, and that on annual billing pay-per-task is charged monthly, so a charge appears at the end of the last month in which the account used extra tasks.

What happens next?

  • Zapier states that when you cancel a paid plan your account continues to be active and becomes a free Zapier account, rather than being closed.
  • Zapier states that Zap workflows with more than one action step will be turned off on the free plan.
  • Zapier states that you lose access to premium apps in Zap workflows, and that Zap runs are held if they use a premium app or have more than one action. It also states that held runs using premium apps can be replayed if you upgrade again.
  • Zapier states that you lose access to AI Fields and enrichments in Zapier Tables, and that you will not be able to restrict access to your forms.
  • Your data survives the downgrade. Zapier states that if the new plan has a lower limit for an asset, such as a lower row limit in Zapier Tables, you will not lose any existing data, but you will not be able to add new data until the asset is under the plan's limit.
  • Moving from Team or Enterprise to an individual plan costs shared features. Zapier states that shared app connections are disconnected once the account is downgraded and that a private app connection is needed to keep the automations running, that the owner still has access to the account's shared folders, and that app access policies stop being enforced.
  • Zapier states that cancelling a paid account does not affect existing add-ons, so an add-on keeps billing unless you deal with it separately.

WHEN IT DOES NOT WORK

If you get stuck.

I cannot find the cancel button

There is not one. Zapier states that to cancel your Zapier subscription you must select the Free Zapier plan and that there is no separate Cancel button. Its own Cancellation FAQ repeats the point: to cancel, select the Free plan in Billing settings. The step people miss is finishing checkout afterwards.

I cancelled and Zapier charged me anyway

Check two things. First, whether the downgrade was actually scheduled: Zapier states you must complete the full checkout flow to confirm it, that selecting a plan alone does not schedule it, and that a banner on the Billing and usage page shows the change date once it is confirmed. If there is no banner, it did not go through. Second, whether the charge is pay-per-task rather than a plan renewal. Zapier states that on monthly billing you may see charges for extra tasks at the end of the last billing cycle, and that on annual billing pay-per-task is charged monthly.

My Zaps stopped running after I downgraded

That is documented behaviour, not a fault. Zapier states that on the free plan, Zap workflows with more than one action step are turned off, that you lose access to premium apps, and that Zap runs are held if they use a premium app or have more than one action. It also states that lower-tier plans include fewer tasks per month and that runs may be held until the next billing cycle if you exceed the new limit. Zapier states held runs using premium apps can be replayed if you upgrade again.

I want the unused part of my annual plan refunded

Zapier states that all sales are final and that monthly and annual plans alike are non-refundable, along with upgrades, renewals and add-ons. It also states that charges following the end of a trial are non-refundable. What you keep is access: Zapier states the plan remains active until the end of the current billing cycle whichever billing interval you are on.

My trial turned into a paid plan without warning

Zapier runs two different trials and they behave differently. It states that the 14-day trial for new users needs no payment method and moves the account to the Free plan at the end, but that the 7-day re-trial started from the Free plan requires a payment method and automatically upgrades the account to a paid plan and charges you if you do not cancel before it ends. Zapier states you can change this in advance under Trial settings on the Billing and usage page by choosing Downgrade to the Free plan.

GOOD TO KNOW

Questions, answered.

How do I cancel my Zapier subscription?

Zapier states you cancel by selecting the Free Zapier plan, because there is no separate Cancel button. Visit the Billing and usage page, click Manage, select Zapier's Free plan, and complete the checkout flow. Then confirm the banner showing the change date appears on the Billing and usage page.

Does Zapier refund an annual plan?

No. Zapier states that all sales are final and that all purchases are non-refundable, including monthly and annual plans, upgrades, renewals and add-ons, and that once a charge is processed it is final. The plan stays active until the end of the billing cycle instead.

What happens to my Zaps on the Free plan?

Zapier states that Zap workflows with more than one action step are turned off, that premium apps become unavailable, and that runs using a premium app or more than one action are held. The Zaps themselves are not deleted, and Zapier states held runs using premium apps can be replayed if you upgrade again.

Can Zapier be cancelled in the App Store or Google Play?

No. Zapier bills your account directly and manages every plan change on its Billing and usage page, so there is no App Store or Google Play subscription to look for. A charge from Zapier appears on the card or invoice attached to the account rather than on an Apple or Google receipt.

Why did I get a charge after moving to the Free plan?

Most likely pay-per-task. Zapier states this is enabled by default for accounts created after January 2024, that exceeding your task limit switches you to pay-per-task billing for the rest of the pay period, and that on annual billing it is charged monthly, so a charge lands at the end of the last month in which the account used extra tasks.
